Great photo

I love this photo, supplied to the Herald. Very man of the people. A party leader who surfs is a cool look.

I don’t know which one looks more staged.

Ha ha – good one! Just as I was going to print the first photo and have it framed to remind myself every day what a great, genuine Kiwi the PM is, you go and spoil it.

Great photo, though it does beg comparisons to John Kerry and windsurfing.

I was impresssed that he is a Foo Fighters fan and went to the concert the night of his selection.
Still would never consider voting Labour though.

    PM? Shearer?

    Only in your dreams, milkmilo.

Now are we going to have the media sneering about surfing while the Rena sinks and the POA collapses as they have about John Key being in Hawaii? Of course not even though this looks like pretty tame surfing to me.

Is this the line Trev and Grant are going to take – that this guy is so cool! Possibly so we forget he is actually several years older than the PM.

I notice the article is all about rebuilding the Labour Party and nothing at all about what we are facing as a country.

Surfing is ok, but he’d better be careful. I remember John Kerry got slammed when he was photographed wind surfing.

“The new Bush advertisement begins: ”In which direction would John Kerry lead?” Its substance is less notable than its artwork, which features a video image of Kerry windsurfing for the duration of the spot.

”Kerry voted for the Iraq war, opposed it, supported it, and now opposes it again,” the narrator says, against the picture of Kerry on the water. ”He bragged about voting for the $87 billion to support our troops before he voted against it.”

It concludes: ”John Kerry. Whichever way the wind blows.”

It’s good symbolism for Labour. Ride the wave till it crashes and disentergrates then paddle back out for the next one….. Entertaining but pointless…. perfect representation of Labour party politics.

Actually I’m impressed that a 50+ y/o man can (still) surf! For me, even swimming is simply staying alive while in water taller than I am, which I avoid that all costs.
Was chatting to a friend over the weekend who is entering the national surf champs tomorrow in the over-60 class and hoping to win. I asked if there were any other entries in his class. He was not amused.
Apparently surfers in their mid-20s are classed as “seniors”, and it’s all downhill from there.
