Is this why Trevor buys tickets for Homegrown?
February 20th, 2012 at 12:00 pm by David FarrarI couldn’t work out why Trevor would regularly buy tickets for Homegrown. I did have suspicions he was in it for the profit. But this photo from the Dom Post suggests that possibly Trevor’s interest is not entirely financial

Either the creepy uncle or the profiteering scalper. Neither is a good look and Shearer’s just letting him get away with it.
Sick.

Young girls are only a profit making opportunity for Mallard. They’re probably students, almost certainly not well off, and so why shouldn’t an old man on $170k a year sting them for their concert tickets? It’s what the 1% do to the 99%.
At least we’re not going to hear Labour banging on about grocery prices this year. There is no way they’d have the cheek to criticise a retailer adding their margin to milk in order to cover their real estate and staff costs, when Mallard can add $100 to a concert ticket in return for no effort or expense at all.

What are you trying to say, DPF? That these girls are hot?
Those girls look all of 15-16. Yellow arm bands at Homegrown meant you weren’t allowed to buy alcohol.
[DPF: I wasn't encouraging a literal interpretation. I was suggesting that the youthful crowds could be a factor in attendance]

At least on Kiwiblog there is some attempt to phrase such cheap smears ever so slightly more delicately…

Yellow armbands means you can’t buy alcohol. So if you pull off the armband, you can buy alcohol? What genius dreamed up that plan?

But if “perving” at girls under the age of consent is your thing I suggest some form of counseling before a problem develops.

So Trevor would get along just fine. After all that is pretty much what most of the females in Labour are like.

Forget the girls you silly slavering blokes.
The point is we have a highyl paid Labour MP who thinks it is perfectly OK for him to profiteer off students, or anybody else, and do so on a regular basis.
Instead of the ‘ribbing’ one commentator suggested he deserved, surely this kind of behaviour shows up a new ethical low even for Labour.
It is usually the ignominious behaviour that brings people down and this reveals Trevor to be a hypocrite, and worse, a greedy one despite his lavish salary.
Am I the only one who thinks what he did is disgraceful?

Mallard would be happy to buy them alcohol. With his 50% agent’s markup added.

beaB>Am I the only one who thinks what he did is disgraceful?
No, I’m with you. Labour used to look out for the less-well-off, not look for opportunities to profit from them. It’s the sort of “it’s legal” ethics that loan sharks use while they prey on the poor. It’s bad enough that Mallard does this and has shown no shame in his media appearances last week. But why hasn’t Shearer sacked him? Or at least said that profiting off students is unacceptable and that Mallard must refund the excess?

beab – im not sure its disgraceful. Definitely stupid though. If I was Shearer I would be thinking “do i really want a guy like this in charge of a portfolio?”
As a one off its hardly a sackable offence. But when you add up everything Mallard has bought to the table over the last few years i imagine its time to let him go.
He will be highly valuable in the private sector no doubt.

Yellow armbands = not allowed to buy alcahol. Does not mean not allowed to drink alcahol.
Now Mr Mallard, why would you want to go to a place like this? Dirty pervert? Scalper? or just greedy?
I think your tickets were complimentary and you sold them as a fundraiser for the Labour Party Election Campain funding.
