The Greens view of business

February 11th, 2012 at 10:46 am by David Farrar

John Roughan writes at NZ Herald:

Then Hone Harawira and Greens co-leader Metiria Turei were called to the platform. Turei, declaring her background to be anarchism, said her concept of life was that we all lived in a cage with wild monsters trying to tear down the walls that protected us.

These monsters were corporate capitalism, she said, and she saw her job as trying to push out the walls of the cage and increase our living space. Weird.

Yes wild monsters are trying to eat our young and destroy us. They’re called businesses and are evil.

This kind of fear-based world view is spiritually closer to the stereotype of conservative thought processes, than liberal.

    Greens or Red Melons ????

Seems to me that following comment is appropriate:

“One day the pink or red-melons (the Greens) will mature and realise that they live in a real world and not “russel in pink land” (Russel [sic] Norman, Greens co-leader and a former card-carrying Communist Party, Australia member). Those people would have us all back in sack cloth and ashes. Once the public becomes aware of where they would take us, the Greens will revert to being a minor bit-player – unless Labour decides against moves to democratise the party and to anchor its philosophy in the real, post 2008 world.”

What an egocentric delusion. the reality is no one actually gives a rats ass about her, let alone some anthropomorphic demons that more likely came into being out of a drug induced “revelation” than any reality being out to get her.

No one, and especially nature, cares, get over yourself. Real nature will kill your ass in a heartbeat or whimper because you’re just food or fodder for something else.

They have the Mother God, (Mother Earth/Mother Nature also frequently referred to as Gaia).
Gaia has been seriously ‘wounded’ by the expansion of human civilization and now there must come a universal atonement for these many millennia of grief on ‘her’ part” through an event or process they call ‘cleansing.’
They want to sacrifice oil\coal\gas and Western Civilisation\Christianity and Capitalism in general on the altar of their God.
Hence the Global Warming\Climate disruption dogma and the Occupy crowd.

    Weird.

To be snarky from the other side I must ask whether John Roughan knows anything about anarchism? Because, if he did, he’d know that the cage is one of the classic metaphors of anarchism.

I think it’s simplistically stupid even for a metaphor, let alone for describing life in a modern, semi-capitalist society – especially one where people are using various products of capitalist corporations to expand the cage.

However, although beliefs can be “wierd” I don’t think this metaphor is. It’s a perfectly rational, if metaphorical, way of describing the worldview of most anarchists (likely not including capitalist anarchists) and he would be better off taking it seriously and arguing against it rather than just trying to dismiss it.

I’m going to put the following links into this thread because I think it’s more appropriate than GD. The reason I’m doing this is that they represent to me some real thinking that we need to have about our future. Thinking that no political party seems to be having.

The following articles are by a guy called Walter Russell Mead and are published in an e-zine called the The American Interest. Don’t be put off by the title of part one – The Crisis of the American Dream, or the American focus – because what he describes is what every Western society is going through. Whether one is left-wing or right-wing these should be of interest.

The Greens, who often put themselves forward as the true inheritors of traditional progressive leftism should be talking along these lines more than most. But for all their talk of a wonderous future of a wind and solar-powered society of equality they seem more like the family farm nostalgists of early 20th century America described by Meade: Metiria’s wistful invocation of 19th century anarchism being an almost pitch perfect example.

Part One: The Crisis of the American Dream
    Part One: ReCasting the Dream
Part One: The Power of Infostructure
Part One: Better Living in the 21st Century

    Read them all.

The corporate capitalists were the ones that supplied the steel to make the cage, the machine to turn that steel into a cage and the labour to run the machine that makes cages out of steel. As has been pointed out this silly little girl is the very opposite of an anarchist, she is a statist.

It’s strange how many people there are like her on the left, preaching the abolishment of liberty whilst at the same time claiming to be anarchists.
In fact, every time you see a protester on the news wearing a V for Vendetta mask you can be 99% sure he is espousing the very opposite of that character’s beliefs. It was popular with’Occupy’ protesters, for example, who were actually campaigning for more and more state control of everyone’s lives.

In fact, there’s only one activist I know of who actually understands and uses it correctly:

    This might be of interest:

‘Anarchist’: One who excites disorder in a state; advocate of anarchy or anarchism

‘Anarchy’: Want of Government; a state of society where there is no law or supreme power; political confusion

‘Anarchism’: The doctrine of the abolition of formal government, free action for the individual , land and other resources being common property

    (Source: [n.a.]. Home Study Dicionary, ([n.pl], [n.pub], 1964), s.v. anarchy)

In light of the above, it would appear that Ms Turei is a ‘Chardonney Anarchist’. Methinks a contradiction in term, no?

But all the Gween policies are derived from that perspective. That’s the fundamental “ill” they all aim to address and they always have. This is not news to anyone but terminally naive people who never knew Turei and the entire Gween movement all, to a man, think this way. It’s obvious and always has been, since forever. And it will continue this way. It will never change. It is part of being Gween.

Pretty fucked if you ask me personally, to join or support a bunch of fucking mentals who really do think this but apparently there’s around 10% of them now, 1 in 10 of us really do think this, right now. Which just goes to show how effectively the education system has been dumbed down and infected with leftist views on how the world works, to have them turning out people who give personal credence to Turie’s world view. I mean, it’s palpably false every which way. The amount of fucked in the headedness required to believe that is massive. It’s like one has a giant turd occupying 99% of one’s brain, that’s how mental it is. Yet here we are, today. Appalling, isn’t it.
