Dalziel starting her Mayoral campaign early
April 5th, 2012 at 9:00 am by David FarrarThe Press reports:
Christchurch democracy is to be “discarded” with the Government poised to take control of the central city rebuild, Labour says. …
Parker said he had not been informed of any “dramatic announcements” about the council’s role in the central city rebuild. …
Cera chief executive Roger Sutton also said he was not aware of any proposal to take over planning responsibilities in the central city.
I think this is more about the 2013 Mayoral elections.

Interesting use of the language by The Press.
Take two sentences:
“Christchurch democracy is to be “discarded” with the Government poised to take control of the central city rebuild, Labour says. …”
“Labour claims that Christchurch democracy is to be “discarded” with the Government poised to take control of the central city rebuild”
One is a “pretend” statement implying fact, the other lays it out for what it is.
compare and contrast

Could they have found a less flattering photo of Liane Dalziel for their article?

Dalzeil has been using the Christchurch disaster for political gain since 05:00, September 04, 2010.
Nothing has changed.

The Canterbury quakes and rebuild is costing the entire country a lot of money. We are all paying. Local government is useless at best, so having someone tell them what to do seems like a good idea to me.

A simple denial from Brownlee would end the speculation but he didn’t answer a direct question during parliaments question time and when called by The Press he said he is ‘off the air on this one’.
What’s so hard about saying ‘it’s not being considered and it’s not going to happen’?

It is an open secret the Lianne wants to be the next mayor. Her shrieking and moaning at Brownlee et al is nothing more than political positioning and posturing. We need Lianne as mayor here like a fish needs a bicycle.

Brian Smaller, before you type, you should fact check, might make you look less of an arse…
Many CERA people are on secondment from LG. And by all accounts, doing a great job.
Do try and keep your ill informed prejudices in control.

‘We need Lianne as mayor here like a fish needs a bicycle.’
Better to stick with Bob ‘the Clown’ Parker then?

We could always ask Jim Anderton to have another go at it….

There *must* be a better prospective mayor for Christchurch than that harridan Dalziel. ( I don’t live there though, so I can’t be sure….).
Vote:Bob Parker seems to be mainly interested in PR, so he should probably go.
Anderton is a doddery old git, so he’s out. You’d think that there’d be someone in their 40s down there who could do it. Someone with energy and a can-do attitude.

no one wants it ( apart from Dalziel )..parkers a complete toss..we’re farked.

In case you were unaware David Eastern Christchurch was devastated by a series of earthquakes. I live in Shirley which is west of east Chch. We still get power cuts and the roads are munted. However we are much better off than those in the east.
Dalziel is the MP for East Christchurch, at the last election she increased her majority. She is doing a good job

My friends down in Christchurch seem to think that the News Talk ZB host Mike Yardly would make a good Mayor. Anyone know him ?
