Friday Photo: 18 May
May 18th, 2012 at 8:50 am by ChthoniidSomething very local this time, from the bush around our house. The three tricks to getting a good photo of a kereru are to get a vantage point that puts you at the same level, a relatively clear line of sight (always challenging) and some light falling on the breast to bring out the sheen.

Nothing quite like sitting out on the back deck, looking towards the surrounding bush, glass of good wine, and having these big bad boys ‘whoop whoop whoop’ past you. Beautiful.

My cat tends to stare at them with unrestrained glee, i can just see him thinking, if i could just bag one of those i will be the king of all cats.
good luck i reckon
those birds are too whiley to let a cat anywhere near them.

One of the things I like about walking around the NZ bush – just about the biggest wild animal you’re likely to come across is a Pigeon.
Thank god the people who wanted to release bears here didn’t get their way…

We have three pairs nesting at our place. They are practically tame, and when working outside they always flyover and land in the branches a few feet from you.
