Friday Photo: 15 June

And in a rare deviation from birds, I’ve gone for a scenic look.

And as an aside, hauling camera gear & a heavy tripod over the bush-trails of NZ is a good way to give your body a workout…

Don’t tell us your problems, Red (Come to think of it, that’s probably a good thing!)

Nice pic. I’m going to pinch that for my desktop. Thanks

I think that’s a bloody great pic….What’s wrong with you Redbaiter? Many of us quite enjoy the pictoral interludes (makes a nice change from slinging mud at each other 24/7)

Not only that its poorly framed and even if it had any merit would be completely devalued by the large self promoting logo in the bottom right.

    No special talent apparent here.

Just a guy with a camera and some big ideas about his own ability.

Beautiful – I agree with Redbaiter though, would have liked it as my desktop background if not for the annoying signature at the bottom. Pretty much ensures that the photo will never be shared beyond Kiwiblog. True masterpieces are valued wherever they can be shared – for example, Picasso’s pieces are recognised anywhere without a signature because he has earned that recognition. If the photographer’s intention is so that no-one will want to show it to their friends and praise what a wonderful photo it is, then he has succeeded. So at the end of the day the result is that people will briefly see the photo on Kiwiblog before they click next post to see what else there is today.

A suitably endowed mermaid would have added a nice touch.

Guys- Red’s opinion doesn’t bother me. It amuses me he keeps trying to make me notice him.

@Bombs Aregreat – Kiwiblog isn’t exactly the showcase for my work. Picasso didn’t live in the digital age. I don’t want to see my logo on a picture as much as anyone else but the “honour system” for digital photography doesn’t work. I’ve already spent 3 days this week getting some of my photos removed from a website that used them without permission. There’s a good reason watermarks get added to pics, & its got nothing to do with wanting to annoy the viewer.

A photo has to say something about the subject.

Chthoniid’s photos are all talking about the photographer.

“look at my photo, aren’t I just so good??”

Rather than projecting art, they’re projecting narcissism, and this projection is reinforced by the gratuitous nick and its overly large size.

Chthoniid’s photos are unfortunately extremely ordinary and not worthy of any special slot anywhere. If he was any good, the last place you’d see them is for free on Kiwiblog.

Russell, you should warn people you’re about to make those sorts of comments. It would avoid unnecessary keyboard spills.

Running water doesn’t look like that, it has its own intrinsic beauty that doesn’t wear computerised graphic effects at all well.

The photo is also thrown completely out of balance by the large and pointless expanse of nothingness in the bottom left quarter.

    As I said- no talent.

What, where’s all the cowshit? Gee you can’t put a photo like that on the net, the Melons will be spewing, you have to have atleast a couple of turds foalting on surface.

Chthoniid, Do you use an ND filter to allow the shutter speed to be long enough? How many stops?

  16. Chthoniid (1,914) Says:

    @kelsey

In this case the gloom of the bush, the lowest ISO and a small aperture was enough to slow the shutter down to soften the waterflow. I also used a 3-stop ND filter in other shots where conditions were brighter.

LOL – you sad, ignorant fulla. That is a product of the shutter speed, nothing else.

Please, keep on telling Chthoniid how little talent he has… as you can see there are many here who think you’re quite the buffoon…
