Actually yes

Making 5117 comments here in about two weeks isn’t what WINZ would probably accept as an honest effort to seek employment or re-train. Not to mention many here would be paying for you to make 5117 comments and those many aren’t very fucking happy about doing that.

I think that perhaps He Who Shall Not Be Named is in self-imposed exile when he complained to DPF last week and was firmly rebuffed. Perhaps he was warned that an ‘investigation’ might lead to him being banned for inciting the rebellion?

Closed down Mike? Last time I was there (2002) it was full of whinging poms who were Unionists or retired ones.
Even the Maori fullas were moaning, nobody seemed to want to talk about solutions other than reducing the price of booze!

A tourist wanders into a back-alley antique shop in Wellington’s Cuba St. Picking through the objects on display he discovers a detailed, life-sized bronze sculpture of a rat. The sculpture is so interesting and unique that he picks it up and asks the shop owner what it costs.

“Twelve dollars for the rat, sir,” says the shop owner, “and a thousand dollars more for the story behind it.”

“You can keep the story, old man,” he replies, “but I’ll take the rat.”

The transaction complete, the tourist leaves the store with the bronze rat under his arm. As he crosses the street in front of the store, two live rats emerge from a sewer drain and fall into step behind him. Nervously looking over his shoulder, he begins to walk faster, but every time he passes another sewer drain, more rats come out and follow him. By the time he’s walked two blocks, at least a hundred rats are at his heels, and people begin to point and shout. He walks even faster, and soon breaks into a trot as multitudes of rats swarm from sewers, basements, vacant lots, and abandoned cars. Rats by the thousands are at his heels, and as he sees the waterfront at the bottom of the hill, he panics and starts to run full tilt.

No matter how fast he runs, the rats keep up, squealing hideously, now not just thousands but millions, so that by the time he comes rushing up to the water’s edge a trail of rats twelve city blocks long is behind him. Making a mighty leap, he jumps up onto a light post, grasping it with one arm while he hurls the bronze rat into Wellington Harbour with the other, as far as he can heave it. Pulling his legs up and clinging to the light post, he watches in amazement as the seething tide of rats surges over the edge of the wharf into the sea, where they drown.

Shaken and mumbling, he makes his way back to the antique shop.

“Ah, so you’ve come back for the rest of the story,” says the owner.

“No,” says the tourist, “I was wondering if you have a bronze civil servant.”

I’m pretty sure either the Naenae or Taita RSA closed a few years back. And the Lower Hutt RSA shifted to the Petone Workingmen’s Club. The RSA is fading pretty fast now.

however I must admit i’ve always found public servants to be good value. It’s very much a “them and us”, mentality that doesn’t help some approaches.
If only the individual wouldn’t act in the best interests of the collective. Then you’d get some critical thinking.

It’s an interesting roadblock with the gimmies & the water. I reckon that JK is reading it right & standing back to let the various groups wind themselves into knots. As has been already pointed out there is not much anyone can do to stop the water running down a river & if it passes through a few hydro dams on the way it is still the same water when it meets the sea. Unless the wankers want to redefine physics according to Kupe they might be best advised to put a claim in for the ownership of gravity.

As an aside….have you ever had to control buttercup & if you have what did you use? Preside seems to be about the only spray on offer. It works but it’s expensive & stuffs the clover.

I don’t get how this shows education is worsening?
If more than 80% of students get NCEA L2 or better but 45% adults (who are people 18+?) lack essential reading and writing skills then isn’t that showing that older people are dragging down the countries results? Which would mean that students today are doing better than the past? Without even taking into account that most adults would have improved their literacy and numeracy with experience since leaving school?

I don’t however understand what the last sentence of your quote is saying exactly. Maybe if I did, it would clarify it for me.

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett has been told to “get off her fat arse” and visit a caravan park she complained was unfairly hiking rents for “substandard” accommodation.

The Waitakere MP yesterday singled out a caravan park in her electorate – Western Park Village – as “very expensive for what I’m sure most New Zealanders would see as quite substandard living”.

But the park owner, Darryll Heaven, said they did everything they could for many tenants that were forced upon them by Work and Income.

“That is absolute bulls . . . That really annoys me because she won’t get off her fat arse – she’s only 500 metres away – to come down and see us. We’ve got a dozen staff and we’re working 24 hours a day to control the place. She doesn’t understand that and if she thinks we’re ripping her off, come and have a look at our bottom line any time she likes.”

After the horrors of the two earthquakes, we hoped Christchurch could derive some shreds of momentary joy from the performance of their rugby team. No more. Some of us now hope that any team but the Crusaders wins the Super Rugby.

Richie McCaw’s post-match eloquence and decency is in contrast to his coach’s one-eyed remarks and hides a multitude of sins. Too many of the Crusaders intimidate referees, take cheap shots at the opposition and serially cheat around the ruck and maul.

So Bernard Hickey says we need to have a talk with our kids.

We should have listened to Winnie in 1997. The solution is the same.
Both National and Labour have screwed us since then by not dealing to this properly.

A national super like Kiwisaver on individual accounts is the answer, but now we have to introduce it by % over the next 20 years.
So those who are 20 now will have to pay for their super completely, those 50+ will have to pay a much much smaller %. with the % rising per decade i.e. 20, 30, 40, 50’s.
This has always been the option that causes the least grief.

Though what we do for the beneficiaries I don’t know, being on pension for 20-30 yrs and then super seems a bit rich.
