A new level of stupidity

August 29th, 2012 at 3:00 pm by David Farrar

NZ Herald reports:

A man who threw his motorcycle into the sea and then claimed insurance had announced his intentions the day before on Facebook, a court heard yesterday.

Good God, how stupid can you be. Why not just stick up posters also.

    “Obtaining $4500 by deception.”

“He was convicted, given concurrent 150-hour sentences of community work on each charge, and ordered to pay $4000 reparation.”

So after his punishment, he makes $500. Justice at work.

The insurance company may also have sold the bike for $500.00 as scrap, meaning that the insurance company was already able to recover these funds, so wasn’t entitled to the full amount of reparation.

I can’t help but think that if he had not let go of the motorcycle, he would probably have been in line for a Darwin award

Yes but they will have had to pay an investigator to conduct the interview of this dork and there are other costs as well.

So you tell the Court and the police who will have the documents present to come to the reparation amount , how clever you are and how wrong they are , ho hum

What a load of twaddle. This fraudster deliberately went out to defraud the insurance company. Full reparation plus costs plus 6 months in the slammer for being a total arsehol. The point being. It was not only the insurance company. It is the policyholders who have to pay higher premiums to cover the likes of this fraudster.

Of course when a private citizen is burgled to the tune of $4500, the police won’t lift a finger.

Even when the victim is able to drive them round to the perp’s house and point him out.

I suspect David doesn’t spend a lot of time reading the comments in his blog these days.
