How much per hour are we paying for this rubbish? It’d be bad enough if it was spontaneous but it’s not – it is obviously all very carefully scripted.

Better comedians can be seen in any public bar & they don’t get paid a small fortune for doing it!

I’ve had some informal communications with Destiny Church (DC) about implementing my kids accelerated math program in their school, since they’re interested to become a charter school. There are lots of Pacific Islanders in the Destiny Church’s school, so if I can help in some way (directly or indirectly) to lift their academic achievements, then that would be a good thing for Island students.

What I’ve proposed to DC is that since they aim to be a Charter school, they have more freedom to implement their curriculum the way they see fit. I proposed that they select only a few students (may be 5 students or less) from year-4 (aged 9) primary school level and put them into an accelerated math program, so after 3 years in this program (by the time they’re 11 years old), those kids will be ready to sit the NCEA year-11 math (ie, 5th form) or CIE (Cambridge International Exam) equivalent year-11 IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education).

I’ve proposed to them that I can show their math teachers of how to run such a program which has been successful with the primary school kids that I have coached over the last 3 years. Their (math) teachers can tweak the program itself to suit their students’ needs or simply the way they see fit. They can start with a select few students then expand the program over the coming years include an entire year or to include many more students instead of limiting the participants in the initial program to 5 students. Such accelerated math learning has never ever been done in any school environment before anywhere in the world, but I believe that it can work and thanks to John Banks for making it possible for my idea to be implemented in the real world. I think that my idea is innovative, and such innovations will never ever be implemented in a state school. It will only be possible in a charter (or private school) school.

IMO, I have doubts about the claim that charter schools targeting the poor can have a positive effect in lifting the performance of those students (academically) for the reason that what they teach is not really that much different to what they do at state schools. What I’m proposing to Destiny Church is completely new. No state or private schools had ever done such (accelerated math learning) program before. Once thing I have emphasized is that students still learn what they suppose to learn at a particular level (reading, writing, language, etc,…), however they should allocate a bit more time to teaching of math for kids who have been picked to participate in it.

A date for meeting up with their School Governance Board members and school principal is yet to be arranged, but I’m looking forward to meeting up with their management team to hear my proposal.

PS : I don’t care whether a school such as Destiny is religious or not. If their 10 year old students know who parted the red-sea and also able to solve calculus problems of year-13 level (16/17/18 year old level), then it is much better than non religious low decile state school such as Hillary College in Otara that performed very poorly in their academic achievements year after year. Its not the knowing if who parted the red-sea that is damaging to kids learning/knowledge. It’s not knowing that 13 is a prime number (from year-9 students) that should raise serious concern from educators.

He he – the main question could not have been a better ‘patsy’ for John to sink his teeth into – and the ‘left’ complained about his answer – I mean to say, the opposition do not ask patsys. Seemed that Trevor was quite tetchy that evening and the day afterwards. Trevor is waiting for the ‘miracle’ that will resolve Judith’s defamation suit against him. This must be a continual niggle on his mind.

I struggle to understand why Trev would continue with that line of questioning after the very first supplementary… talk about getting pwned with every retort from Banksie…

The only conclusion I can come to is that Trev’s narcissistic personality disorder is getting worse by the day, and that he actually believes he’s on some crusade or other

Just running through the symptoms:
– grandiose sense of self-importance
– preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance…
– believes he is special or unique…
– requires excessive admiration…
– has a sense of entitlement…
– shows arrogant or haughty behaviours…
– is interpersonally exploitative…

Yup – all the signs are there …

Mallard is not the sharpest knife in the drawer is he? Why would you open yourself up to such an attack from Banksie?
And so much ammunition, a fighting conviction, drunken driving, stealing taxpayer money for pledge card which they have still npt paid back, stealing taxpayer money to buy porn, having frightened young men running from the Deputy’s house, forgery, speeding, immigration for party donations, slave labour for tiling etc etc etc.

Mallard is an embarrassment and should really pack his bags. That was so heavy-handed and ponderous.
Perhaps he is one of the reasons Labour are becoming irrelevant.
You would think Shearer or someone might think it was a good idea to look and sound like a government-in-waiting rather than a group of overpaid hobbyhorse riders pushing fringe issues – and too many juvenile comedians who think it’s entertaining to waste my hard-earned money on their cushy lifestyles.
Shearer should take a look at Russel who always sounds credible and serious even when you don’t agree with a word he is saying.

I’ll say it once, I’ll say it again – Shearer’s first words upon being elected leader should have been “and Mallard, it goes without saying that I want your resignation as an MP on my desk by the end of the day”.

Not that either of them in this exchange has much to be proud of. But at least Banks wasn’t the one who was handing out rope.

Even a half competent opposition should ensure that Question time is a time that the government members are fearful of. Instead the National members are just laughing at the opposition. And Mallard is supposed to be Labour’s best performer? Jesus. As someone who used to work in parliament, that has to be one of the most pathetic displays I’ve ever seen. I didn’t realise just how useless Labour has become.

Smith would do the nation a favour by clamping down a whole lot harder on this kind of puerile nonsense. While these pompous, self-serving, self-opinionated fools are having their pathetic verbal jousts better suited to an intermediate school playground, the good citizens who pay their way are out there in various degrees of hardship, working to pay the taxes that fund this, and hoping the affairs of state that concern them desparately are getting some kind of look in.

Smith, Banks, Mallard – plagues on all your houses. Kiwis, other than political junkies, dont give a toss about this crap. Get on with the job we pay you for.
