From Facebook. An actual scan from three NSW Daily Telegraph. Poor Aussies.
For those interested we are now third on the weighted medals per capita table behind Jamaica and Slovenia.

It always seems sad to me when the ‘medals per capita’ thing gets brought out.
As though slobs like me sitting on the couch watching are in some way meaningful to what individual athletes achieve…

I hope they keep us in the combined total when they go ahead of us tonight.

Zapper: Ummm, sadly, no, we’ll revert to our usual position within the Australian psyche – a source of annoyance, envy and the butt of jokes. In a word ‘baaaaa’.
Says it all really.

Yeah I wasn’t serious Komata. On the first couple of days when Australia had 1 gold, we had none and they thought they had heaps more on the way in the pool, they were already ridiculing our team over here.

I saw Keeping Stock had a great photo – Silver is the new gold:

To be fair, they probably think this is a bit of a joke – since they really are doing badly by their standards.
I don’t find Aus worrying about NZ that much. It’s kind of a big brother / little brother thing. Little brother is always measuring against big brother. Big brother doesn’t really notice little brother exists. When Australians think about nz we’re kind of a big version of Tasmania without the subsidies. They’re always mildly surprised to learn there’s a rivalry.

They’ve been doing it all week.
Yesterday they printed “Silver is the new Gold” and put the list in the order of Silver, Gold, Bronze.
Today they compared Australia to each of the separate British countries – Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland.
I can post the scans if you like

Oops .. Aussie swimmer lost out on Gold because she had a stripper pole in her house

To be fair to Aussies – the Gruen transfer made a mockery of her the other week. She lost all her sponsors except for Sun Rice, and Aussies see her as a “risk” to advertisers
