A rap tribute to the NZ Army

September 12th, 2012 at 3:00 pm by David Farrar

This is a great emotional tribute to the NZ Army soldiers serving abroad who have been killed, by rapper . A must watch and listen.

Konflikt is a Wellington rapper, 22-year-old Lower Hutt computer student Jarad Westrupp.

The thing about rap songs… The female chorus always sounds better than the rap itself, and you end up listening to the song for the chorus and not for the rapper himself.

True Jimmy, but that is the same with many tracks in pop and rock as well. The chorus is the tasty steak, the lyrics are the veges and mashed potato; but together make for a wholesome meal. Or to resort to cliche': “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts”.

I should add, a moving music video – great images of our troops in Afghanistan doing what they are called upon to do; their ‘vocation’ in the true meaning of that word. The rap being from a young New Zealander has depth, heart and soul, and is absolutely appropriate for the images. A real tribute to their service, and the sacrifice of those that have given everything on our behalf.
