Backbenches to return in 2013
September 13th, 2012 at 9:09 am by David FarrarSky TV has announced that Backbenches will return in 2013. It will be primarily funded by NZ on Air, part-funded by Sky, produced by TVNZ, broadcast live on Wednesday evenings by Prime TV and shown delayed on TVNZ Heartland channel.
A great collaborative effort, which should mean it is seen by far more people than was the case on TVNZ7.
Funding at this stage is for 20 one hour shows.
As I said when Backbenches finished on TVNZ7, I’ve been a big fan of the show. However there are some format changes they should consider to make it better when it relaunches.

Why would it be seen by far more people if it is to be shown twice (once on on FTA, once on pay tv) compared with twice on FTA?
Please explain to me how TVNZ7 was less accessible than Prime? Are you saying that because it is now on Prime, more people will want to watch it? Why?
Cheers

Does this mean that “The GC” will miss out on getting money?

A mediocre, very forgettable TV program. Not worthy of spending any time watching it.

Not need to worry, RRM. I smile all the time, in particular at the laughable Mowrri treaty claims.

TVNZ 7 struggled because TVNZ refused to promote the channel. I only found out about Backbenches from blog comments.
More people should be aware of Backbenches on Prime, channel 4 is more likely to be found than 77, and TVNZ 7 was not included in most printed TV listings.

Currently, in the Wednesday 9:30pm slot, Prime has Game of Thrones on, generally accepted to be one of the best shows ever made.
Assuming it will be on at this time, are they going to replace it with one of the quite possibly worst shows ever made? Yet this show has had public meetings and protests in favour of the channel it was on, as was held up as an example of “quality public broadcasting”.
What an upside down world we live in.

I take it then it will be a one hour time slot composed of 20min’s of real content and 40min’s of ad’s and sponsor’s shit?
