went to the Akl town hall for a show yesterday .. NZ Pops O Sole Mio is was called. Not my cup of tea BUT I really enjoyed it.
Who but none other than Mr Speaker sang a duet with a young fella called Will Martin. Sir Lockwood did pretty well I must say. Interesting that he is so cool in his speaker role but looked really nervous before singing .. imagine Margaret Wilson or Johnny Hunt doing something like that.

If McCaw is targeted by the ockers it might have more to do with the way he plays the game than it does with anything else.

Perhaps if McCaw stopped breaking the laws of the game and the refs stopped letting him get away with it then there might be a different attitude toward him from the opposition.

Dumb shit, did you not see Higginbottom’s attack Whitelock’s head (while the latter’s arms were trapped) at a maul, twisting and wrenching his head in a manner could have caused death or, at best, paraplegia. That incident piceeded the knee and head but incidents and is clearly seen on TV.

Incidentally, dumb shit, attacking a player’s exposed head is absolutely verboten…and a yellow / red card offence.

Does McCaw break the rules at the “break down” ? Yes, but no more than any other player. Time for you to learn about the game and the rules, dumb shit!

Once they have played for an adult NZ rugby team no other country can select them.
It should be that as soon as a player turns out for the under 20s that is it.

Quite so Morgy. Even open-side flanker worth his salt pushes the Laws of the Game to (and often beyond) their absolute limit, and plays to the tolerance levels of the referee. How often has McCaw been yellow-carded in test matches? Not that often, because he has the composure to pull back when one is threatened.

Even if McCaw was illegally on the wrong side of the ruck, there was no justification whatsoever for Higginbotham dropping a knee into his face, then head-butting McCaw whilst holding his head so that he could not escape. He needs to be suspended for a meaningful period.

Ngai Tahu are smart cookies when it comes to getting bang for their buck, and not only do they not believe that the Mighty River Power part-sale will have no effect on water rights, they’ll likely as not be buying their share. Ngai Tahu has multipied its initial settlement by almost five times since 1994, so if they reckon that MRP is a good investment, I’ll definitely be buying a package of shares.

Of course the fact they are persecuting people means absolutely nothing to the zealots, in their twisted thinking, it’s the persecuted who are the evil ones, all they’re doing is standing up for the “victims” and that makes everything OK. However they’re butting up against human nature here. While apparently, 60% of women aren’t repelled by the thought of sex with another woman, the figure is much lower in men thinking of sex with another man. But now, straight boys and girls are going to be told by their teachers to get over that innate feeling, lest they stand guilty of a hate crime. Just wait for the Gweens to push for exactly the same thing here.

@ Morgy – I agree completely; Higginbotham should be suspended from Australia’s end-of-season tour. However the weak-kneed SANZAR judiciary will probably give him a two or three week suspension at a time where there will be no matches for him to miss, as they did with the South African Dean Greyling who was suspended for two weeks but only for one match.

Almost as bad however was Robbie Deans’ limp “I was probably writing notes when it happened” defence of his player. His refusal to denounce Higginbotham’s thuggery contrasted strongly with Heyneke Meyer’s apology for Greyling’s “cheap shot”. I know which coach I now have the greater respect for.

A female solider is taking the name “Keith” as she begins the hormone treatment necessary to complete her sex change.

The soldier, who says she’s been married to another woman for two years, is currently deployed to Afghanistan.

This shines a new light on President Obama’s repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” (DADT) and shows how that repeal didn’t simply allow homosexuals to serve openly in the military. Rather, it politicized the military to new and unheard of levels, moving it further away from its central role as a war-fighting machine and placing it more in more in the arena of social experimentation.

The article notes that the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” last year allowed homosexuals to serve openly in the military, but it did not address transgender individuals. The Military Times said under military policy, troops diagnosed with “gender identity disorder” are deemed medically unfit for service and face administration separation.

Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), a group that advocates “full LGBT equality” in the U.S. military, says transgender service is one of the issues that still must be addressed:

“It’s a positive step that gays and lesbians serving our country can no longer be discharged just for who they are or whom they love. Sadly, that is not true for transgender people, who have served — and are serving — honorably while sacrificing who they are,” SLDN said last month, as it marked the one-year anniversary of the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

“Today we are thinking of our trans brothers and sisters, and commit that we will fight for their equality as well,” said Sue Fulton, Executive Director of Knights Out, an organization of West Point alumni, staff and faculty united in supporting the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.

Yes it doesn’t take much common sense to realise the political fallout that might occur when the media got hold of it. The articles says:

“If the cards were made available to more beneficiaries, the ministry would look at having Pins that could be changed by clients, he said.”

Implying it was a decision made for cost reasons. But it’s a fairly simple risk management exercise to work through the implications of a decision like this, isn’t it. Perhaps they got a junior project manager to run it and the project executive was out to lunch when this aspect of the project was discussed and signed-off. I think the worst part of this will probably be that the blame will fall entirely on the project manager’s head, while the responsible executive will simply duck for cover and claim that s/he relied on the technical people to make the right decision. I don’t imagine it’ll be a very happy meeting with the CEO on Tuesday morning, not with the other issue he’s dealing with. So much for the “no surprises” from DSW eh? I wonder what Bennett’s doing right now?

Zapper- I don’t hate them at all! I was a fan most of my life (up until the O’Driscoll incident- the point blank refusal by a visibly smug Henry and co to even acknowledge any wrongdoing made my stomach churn) Hell when I was a kid I had the 87 Steinlager World Cup poster on my wall…and I’ve got a decade or so of old rugby annuals in my library.

I just think there is a revolting ‘Culture of Arrogance’ within that team and there has been ever since Henry,Hansen and co took over…
Best rugby team on the planet? Yep. But lay off the ‘Holier than Thou’ stuff boys- you are no angels.
And as for the recent elevation of Richie McCaw to Sainthood…Christ it was only a few years ago that everyone outside of Crusader country (including the media) was labelling him a cheat!

The pin number has been on the payment cards for well over a year now. Initally they were for food and now they also include suppliers… It’s not an atm card where people can draw money out of a machine.

So much is loaded to a selected supplier and the user has to know how much. If you go over the amount? Decline. If you try using it at any other supplier that hasn’t been loaded? Decline.

Personally, I think they’re damn useful and cost effective.

Ali Williams, providing he can prove his fitness and represent Auckland in this weekend’s NPC final against Canterbury in Christchurch, is guaranteed to tour as the fourth lock.

Not only Henry’s but now Hansen’s favourite. Poor choice.

Although Hansen mentioned he was impressed by the form of Canterbury outside back Johnny McNicholl and Auckland fullback Charles Piutau, he is unlikely to have room for them.

Either of the these two deserve selection.

Fair enough. But Richie is a saint, this cannot be denied.

The O’Driscoll incident is a strange one – no real camera shot to prove anything but clearly he was the victim of something. And boy does he like to remind everyone. Compare that to Richie who has not complained once despite being kneed in the head twice (with a history of concussion), headbutted (on Saturday and in the world cup final), eye gouged + many many other incidents.

Saint? Absolutely. 1987 was when I first watched rugby as a kid, great memories. I assume you weren’t a fan of Richard Loe in the early 90’s though, why didn’t you start hating them then?

Viking… on the back of my Visa Debit card is a 3 digit number that authorises payment purchases over the phone. How is this any different? In fact, this number gives direct access to my bank account and a fraudalent user doesn’t have to sign a thing.

The card is useless if the user does not know hat suppiler and amount has been loaded to that one specific card. Unlike my visa debit…

The only reason the judiciary did not do something about this incident was that the NZRU ensured no complaint was forwarded to them and they (officially) knew nothing of it. (I had that from the adjudicator himself).

I agree re O’Driscoll who has reacted since like a typical Irish rugby person with non-stop whingeing.

I watched the other day as a man bought multiple items, bags of sugar and other such goods as the small retailers buy in bulk from Countdown. Payment was with a payment card and I bet a dollar to a doughnut that small retailer reimbursed him on the way out of the supermarket. In fact the total came to a little more than the amount on the card and he made the ballance up from a well stocked wallet. The checkout operator was not impressed and commented about how often that occrred

MT_Tinman- Yep Henry was a disgrace in that series. I remember him sitting at the post-match press conference wearing that horrible smug grin. Every time anyone from the media asked him about the spear tackle the grin would disappear and he would snap at them like they were one of his schoolchildren. “I think we’ve heard enough about that” etc

Obvioulsy there are some seriously bored indiviuals eher today rehashing a incident on a footy paddock years ago.

If you are seriously bored I suggest catching ” Killing Them Softly” at your local cinema. Not for the squemish , in fact its brutal, but the acting is fantastic with some of the sharpest dialogue going around, and don’t get put off by Brad Pitt being in it, he’s superb.

For those who haven’t followed the organised peodophile rings in high places which don’t therefore get investigated and when they do hit the news they get shut, like the Franklin Coverup, Dutreax and his thug sidekick Nidal which linked kidnapped children to the Belgian aristocracy and in which investigators were replaced twice, because both times they were reaching the incorrect conclusions and which caused massive streetprotests, and Haut de la Garenne the orphanage on Jersey which hit the news a few years ago with torture cellars, allegations of murdered children, hundreds of children alleging abuse over the years, but that went nowhere. But now it’s back again.

I mean not that it’s going to happen this time either. I mean they just won’t let it. One allegation is the intelligence services find pictures and videos of senior people in all depts not just politics having sex with children extremely useful. It may not be true but how else do you explain senior judges and top policemen continually shutting down inexplicably demonstrable links in past cases and please don’t imagine it doesn’t happen. If you think it doesn’t, then research all those case above and there are lots lots more than those, but explain after you know all the facts on those cases, how come it even happened once, but in all of them in the past? You may think it impossible to believe that intelligence services would stoop to such despicable acts but I don’t. The fond image of playing by Queensbury rules has never applied to any intelligence service for it would be foolish to do so, but the intelligence services have always painted themselves as that, and some have swallowed that PR bollocks and some haven’t.

The MSM media as well, plays these things very circumspectly and IMO, despicably. Even while segments of it play it straight, many don’t, because of what’s at stake. Which is the exposure of the most senior people in the land, and that’s never going to happen, no matter what.

But let’s hope I’m completely wrong and the Savile issue which now has several hundred allegations against many different people, is played straight.

Zapper, you are correct that I am a proud Cantabrian (I assume that is what you mean by “old style”) but incorrect that I supported Oz because Deans is their (very good) coach.

I now support Canterbury and The Crusaders – no-one else (in rugby) so your suggestion that I support NZ second is wrong.

The NZ “All Blacks” is now a franchise playing simply to earn money so they can play some more and seriously detrimental to NZ rugby and I don’t give a damn how they go.

The Government has allocated more than $8 million in funding for the Serious Fraud Office over two years to continue the fight against white collar crime, the Minister Responsible for the SFO Judith Collins says.

“The SFO has an important role to play in maintaining New Zealand’s reputation as a safe place to invest and do business,” Ms Collins says.

“A total of $8.3 million across 2010/11 and 2011/12 will enable the SFO to undertake an increased number of investigations and prosecutions of serious fraud.”

In 2010, the SFO opened 27 investigations, including a number of investigations into finance companies.

The cases investigated during that time had involved losses of more than $1.5 billion, affecting about 115,000 victims – many of whom were investors.

“The SFO has laid more than 800 charges against 26 peoplein the last 12 months. Several white collar criminals are now behind bars,” Ms Collins says.

During the past year, the SFO has cleared a backlog of cases, including investigations lasting up to seven years.
The average length of a case is now six months.

Do the Police keep separate statistics for ‘white collar’ crime?

Is there an overall compilation of statistics for ‘white collar’ crime for all agencies /regulatory bodies that have the statutory authority to prosecute ‘white collar’ criminals?

My understanding is that the Minister responsible for the SFO is the Minister of Police, and the Minister responsible for the FMA is the Minister for Commerce – so who ‘trumps’ who in the compilation of ‘white collar’ crime statistics – if indeed anyone has that responsibility?

So the other day the happy hunter, my friend Tom, reposted a story of Wells Fargo being distressed at being forced to accept billions in TARP money. TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) basically involved the US govt buying at face value what accountants would usually call “Bad and doubtful debts”, was aimed at recapitalising the banks to enable business and housing lending to return to some semblance of normality. The story was the govt forced the free billions onto the banks with grandiose threats of dire revenge in the event of a refusal.

I mean, it’s a yeah, right, story isn’t it? Some dude offers to take failing loans off their books in return for 100% cash

I have heard the story before but couldn’t be bothered tracking down a link to rebut the nonsense. However, in some lazy cruising this afternoon after attacking the overgrown lawn I happened across another reference to it and quickly found a rebuttal, so here’s the link to the rebuttal which includes the original reportage that got our Tom so excited.

‘To collate and publish these would be a major exercise logistically and cost-wise’.

How is this failure to maintain ‘full and accurate records of its affairs, in accordance with normal, prudent business practice, including the records of any matter that is contracted out to an independent contractor, not a breach of statutory duties arising from the Public Records Act 2005 s.17 (1) ?

Labour Day in Hamilton; I saw the O’Reilly horse win the group 3 event at Te Rapa; I don’t think he is an out and out champion.
Then onto The Base for coffee with her indoors. She commented on how the place looked so much better than Westfield’s Chartwell Shopping Centre.
I had backed the Redoubte’s Choice filly so was not in a good mood, when I remarked that The Base is better because the owners only pay 17.5% tax whereas Westfield pay 28%.
Is that because they are Aussie owned? She asked
No, it is because The Base is Maori owned I replied.
Then, in a contemplative mood, I thought back to 1975 when I had studied tax law at the University of the Witwatersrand. There is no way those repugnant racist Japies would have brought in a racially divisive tax rate. Sure, their racism in other ways was contemptible, but their tax system was sacrosanct.
Okay, they had a silly measure there that export promotional expenditure was 200% deductible and their top personal rate was 60%. They had not brought in the 75% limit that N.Z. had when we had 150% deductibility and a top rate of 60%. But I digress.
Racially divisive tax laws are real bad.

If that is how “international negotiations actually work” what does failure look like?

sorry Luc but the only thing poisoness is your blatant ignorance of our countries history and your bland acceptance of the edting of the interviews by those with a vested interest in forever sucking the taxpayer dry on the basis of untruths and fairy tales.
You should maybe listen to the full interview that he tapped which is vastly different. He tapped it after they edited out most of the last one and most of this one. Takes 35 minutes and perhaps you may realise that John is smarter than you think. Don’t bother commenting unlkess you listen right to the end.

Agreed- That Miriama Kamo makes my blood boil every time I see her presenting something….Is there really any need to throw random Maori words into every sentence during prime-time television? Is there any other TV station on the planet that mixes and matches its linguistics as such? Totally unnecessary and completely worthless…
