Star Wars: Episode VII
October 31st, 2012 at 4:00 pm by David FarrarYay. NZ Herald reports:
A seventh Star Wars film has been confirmed for release in 2015 as well as a string of sequels after the sale of LucasFilm to Disney for US$4.05 billion (NZ$4.93b).
In a statement announcing the deal, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm George Lucas said: “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers.”
May Episode VII be as good as Episode IV rather than Episode III.
I wonder if the new movies will follow the non-canonical books, or if they will be totally different?
I can still recall the excitement as a 10 year old, seeing Star Wars. Almost everyone went to see it twice or more, and some peopel saw it dozens of times. It really did change films.

IIRC Lucas always said he had already written both the basics of 1,2,3 and 7,8,9 after he had done the initial Trilogy.

As long as it is not another “Revenge of the Shit” I will be happy enough. Those Star Wars Marathons are going to need a lot more toilet breaks.

I just wish Lucas would stop tampering with the original trilogy. Is it possible to even get the original untampered version on dvd?

Nooooooooo!
As a lifelong Star Wars fan I didn’t even watch Revenge of the Sith after the fucking trainwreck that was Attack of the Clones.
Vote:I remember several moviegoers laughing loudly during ‘Attack’…during the serious bits! It was that goddamn awful- Bobba Fett with a ‘Once were Warriors’ Maori accent?? Obi help us….

Oh yeah- And the ‘PC’ version where Han shoots Greedo in defence makes my stomach churn. Like anybody cares about the ugly Green fucker anyway….

The real good news is that Lucas is not directing. Episodes I to III were a real disappointment.
Vote:Most people don’t realise that Lucas did not direct Episodes V and VI and they are definitely the best of the series. Especially “The Empire Strikes Back” (Episode V).

Not true. You only have to watch the prequels to see that.
Not a single thing in those movies made sense. None of the characters, none of the actions, and none of the intra-galactic trade contract negotiations.

I remember reading an interview a few years ago with Terry Gilliam in which he observed that “George Lucas is good at backgrounds”. Just so, I thought.

TV news just announced that Mickey Mouse will be appearing in the next Star Wars movie. I propably misheard, but the image is a really interesting one. Mickey as a Jedi Master? Mickey as a Sith lord? Perhaps he will be the President of the New Republic?

I’ve always reckoned that Lucas spend multi-millions on special effects and around $1.50 on the dialogue. Though there are two “meme-worthy” lines, “These are not the droids you’re looking for” and “It’s a trap!”; and perhaps “tempted by the dark side, young Skywalker has become”.

The “there is nothing to see here move along please” line from the first star wars has gone into general use when someone powerful wants people to see nothing. It was used with Helen Clark with great effect. The first star wars (episode IV?) was just superb. I could watch it over and over.

And the memorable “Wedge pull out, you’re not doing any good back there,” and “myself, the boy and two droids. No questions asked.”

Surely can’t be worse than ROTS:
Vote:“Oh no, what have I done?”
“You should join me on the dark side.”
“Oh ok. I’ll go and murder a temple full of Jedi kids then, shall I? My wife will love me when she finds out.”

Vote:Jango’s and Bobba’s (his clone son) accents were the best things in Ep II. I was fortunate enough to experience the audience reaction twice – in central Wellington and back in the Hutt. The Wellington audience didn’t even notice. The Huttites thought it was hilarious – a classic Kiwi movie moment.
I have no faith that Ep VII will be a great movie – it’ll be okay but movies are the products of context and Ep IV sprang from almost nowhere to ignite our imaginations.

Does anyone know what the 4 bil deal consists of? Just the rights to make the movies or what
Vote:October 31st, 2012 at 9:12 pm
Lucasfilm probably holds all of the rights to exploit the entire genre in books, movies, comics, TV, merchandising. I seem to remember Lucas was a pioneers of this approach, which really took off.

I think Temuera Morrison talking like a bro in Star Wars kind of ruined the whole film for me, which wasn’t that great to begin with.
