We need more fun

October 28th, 2012 at 7:00 am by David Farrar

Stuff reports:

Blood, ripped clothes and gasps of shock followed the living dead as they walked the streets of Riccarton last night.

About 30 people took part in the second annual Christchurch Zombie Walk, staggering from Hagley Park and up Riccarton Rd in zombie costume.

Organiser Rhio Popham, 19, said she created the event to give Christchurch people something to do.

“I saw one they did in Toronto and it was awesome. I thought Christchurch is just as awesome so why not?”

Popham said the event was all about having fun.

Great initiative. Life is about having fun and enjoying yourselves, and we need more events like this.

People with new-found obsessions with zombies and overusing the word awesome are what’s wrong with the advertising industry. I’d gladly have more events like this if it means less awful ads.

Yes, but Cantabrians are used to that sort of behaviour from Auckland Blues supporters…

    Yay zombies!
Ever seen seeing “Dawn of the Dead” (the original) as a teenager, I’ve watched every zombie movie since.
Now that the vampire craze has died off (excuse the pun), it’s great to see zombies making a return!

BTW Walking Dead (season 3) starting on TV2 following Wednesday 10.30pm

    Great Zombie films:

Dawn of the Dead – The George Romereo original but the remake isn’t bad either. Series went a bit downhill after that.
Night of the Living Dead – George Romereo’s first ‘dead’ film. Many sequels followed.
28 Days Later – Perhaps not technically a zombie film as people were ‘infected’ but still great. Sequel is worth a look too.
Braindead – Before Peter Jackson became famous with Lord of the Rings he made gory comedy horrors.
I Walked with a Zombie – 40′s horror, no gore needed with an incredible creepy atmosphere.
Shaun of the Dead – Zombies more of a prop for physical comedy, but film is respectful of the genre and really funny.
Dead Snow – Little seen foreign film with zombie Nazis!! Well worth searching out.
Re-animator – ’80s B-grade horror, but well done for the budget.
Return of the Living Dead – Brains! Fun ’80s horror.

For people in Christchurch who haven’t noticed – CTV are broadcasting Night of The Living Dead tomorrow night.
