Competing to be opposition leader

November 7th, 2012 at 12:00 pm by David Farrar

3 News reports:

Voters think Labour leader is the most effective opposition leader, but only just.

A TV One opinion poll released on Monday night showed Mr Shearer favoured by 25 percent of respondents, with NZ First leader Winston Peters just behind him on 24 percent.

Green Party co-leader Russel Norman rated 18 percent and Mana’s Hone Harawira six percent.

The Green Party’s other co-leader, Metiria Turei, was on five percent while 10 percent of those questioned didn’t think any of them were effective.

Not a huge surprise that Peters is high. Few doubt his capacity to oppose. What should worry Labour is that 23% name one of the two Green co-leaders as the most effective opposition leader and 25% their own leader.

It would have been really interesting to see a breakdown of this question based on party votes at the last election….

That’s right. Isn’t it fun watching the lefties cannibalise their own kind while we all point and laugh.

I wonder how many people would have voted “none” if Peters wasn’t there? Even for 10% to vote none of them are effective, that’s pretty telling. How embarrassing for them all.

I put it down to the Politicus Insanitas invasion arising from the destruction of the wurzenfluggle as I explained last week. How else does one explain it?

It should also be a worry that less people support Shearer as most effective opposition leader than support the Labour party, but that’as not a surprise.

But the real competition isn’t for best opposition leader, it’s for Prime Minister. That would be an interesting poll – which of the opposition leaders would make the most effective Prime Minister.

I suspect Winston would get less support for this, unless he’s seen as the least worst.

It is actually a cunning Labour plan! By being so weak, they boost Peters – making sure he stays in Parliament to support a Labour-led government. If Labour were stronger they might squeeze Peters out, to their own cost.

It’s a real Faustian Choice Pete. Personally I’d vote for Bubbles the chimp over any of them, even though he’s now living in an animal park because he had ‘behavioural’ problems.

Bubbles would never be able to weedle is way far enough up a party system to get a look in. And Brian Edwards wouldn’t think he would be characterul enough.

I think the most interesting point to take is that the MSM’s posterboy ( Norman) is not than he is and there are two above him.
