Its a pity there is a rogue element in the mallard gene pool. In extreme cases, I hear they grow up to be rather nasty, petulant creatures…

I believe that is called ‘Trevor Mallard syndrome’

I’ve seen them do that up in Papua New Guinea. It’s oddly fascinating, almost out of character for such predators.

The bubbles are just gases coming up from the decomposition at the bottom of the lake. There were far more bubbles about than could be explained by tiny ducklings

In my youth I once drove around a corner in the country a bit fast, and wiped out the rear half a mother duck’s family of little babies that had been crossing the road.

It was just the worst thing… I felt the deaths of each of those poor innocent little ducklings through the steering wheel. I love driving but for a while after that I didn’t take the car out much…
