Leak of Shearer’s conference speech – gobsmacking

Shearer…march to the podium, tear up his speech, ignore the autocue, and say …

“Fuck it, let’s tell the truth. We’ve failed you for four years, and you’re frustrated with that failure, and so am I, and it’s time we faced up to it.

I’m tired of trying to say what somebody else in the caucus wants me to say, and then saying something different later, and ending up saying nothing and going nowhere, that’s not why I returned to this country and got into politics, so here’s what I really feel, and you can decide if you want to hear it, and if you don’t, get somebody else – but at least you’ll know where I stand …”

Australian banks made $772 profit for every person in New Zealand this year – with a large chunk of it heading over the Tasman.
The “super” profits have sparked outcry from unions and the Greens –
– who say the big four Australian banks are milking the New Zealand economy.

The question the Greens should really ask, to start with, is –
How do interest rates and fees for ordinary customers in Australia compare to those in New Zealand?

Key is emphatic that he will fight the 2014 election, dismissing claims by commentators that he has somehow lost his mojo. But that doesn’t stop him talking about legacies.

A masterpiece of dissembling from Young. In the first sentence she reminds us he’s ruthless and therefore not very nice – to contradict his public image. In the second she says he’s soft and NZer’s hate soft PM’s. That’s one main reason why English never got any traction and is the main reason why Rowling never did either. All our leaders always have a streak of hardness. In the third she pretends he might not hang around.

Shearer’s first conference speech may be his last
Just short of his first anniversary as leader, David Shearer delivers his first speech to a Labour Party conference next week.

But as storm clouds gather over his leadership, it is shaping as possibly his last.

Members, activists and unionists contacted for this article said over and over that the speech at the Ellerslie racecourse conference centre next Sunday was crucial to Shearer’s grip on the leadership.

His first priority is to convince the party rank and file that “he has what it takes” – and those grassroots members will be looking for a hard-hitting address taking the fight to the Government while outlining a clear and personal view of where he intends to take Labour

Unless he can carry that off, the groundswell in the party is set to break into the open with a push for a leadership challenge, most likely when the caucus meets in February – or even sooner, according to one business lobbyist in close contact with the party.

And Duncan Garner and Colin James have just discussed the same on The Nation.

The Labour conference will be a high pressure occasion for Shearer, perhaps make or break. That doesn’t make it easy for him to come across naturally and express an open and honest self.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the Obama team brought this to light. They are proficient at this. In fact, Obama wouldn’t have got anywhere politically if David Axelrod had not repeatedly dug up divorce records etc of anyone Obama was running against.

Obama’s usual campaign method, used in 100 percent of his races, has been to pry into the private records of his opponents.

Let’s take a romp down memory lane and review the typical Obama campaign strategy. Obama became a U.S. senator only by virtue of David Axelrod’s former employer, the Chicago Tribune, ripping open the sealed divorce records of Obama’s two principal opponents.

One month before the 2004 Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, Obama was down in the polls, about to lose to Blair Hull, a multimillionaire securities trader. But then the Chicago Tribune leaked the claim that Hull’s second ex-wife, Brenda Sexton, had sought an order of protection against him during their 1998 divorce proceedings.

Those records were under seal, but as The New York Times noted: “The Tribune reporter who wrote the original piece later acknowledged in print that the Obama camp had ‘worked aggressively behind the scenes’ to push the story.” Many people said Axelrod had “an even more significant role — that he leaked the initial story.”

Both Hull and his ex-wife opposed releasing their sealed divorce records, but they finally relented in response to the media’s hysteria — 18 days before the primary. Hull was forced to spend four minutes of a debate detailing the abuse allegation in his divorce papers, explaining that his ex-wife “kicked me in the leg and I hit her shin to try to get her to not continue to kick me.”

After having held a substantial lead just a month before the primary, Hull’s campaign collapsed with the chatter about his divorce. Obama sailed to the front of the pack and won the primary. Hull finished third with 10 percent of the vote.
As luck would have it, Obama’s opponent in the general election had also been divorced! Jack Ryan was tall, handsome, Catholic — and shared a name with one of Harrison Ford’s most popular onscreen characters! He went to Dartmouth, Harvard Law and Harvard Business School, made hundreds of millions of dollars as a partner at Goldman Sachs, and then, in his early 40s, left investment banking to teach at an inner city school on the South Side of Chicago.

Ryan would have walloped Obama in the Senate race. But at the request of — again — the Chicago Tribune, California Judge Robert Schnider unsealed the custody papers in Ryan’s divorce five years earlier from Hollywood starlet Jeri Lynn Ryan, the bombshell Borg on “Star Trek: Voyager.”

Jack Ryan had released his tax records. He had released his divorce records. But both he and his ex-wife sought to keep the custody records under seal to protect their son.

Amid the 400 pages of filings from the custody case, Jack Ryan claimed that his wife had had an affair, and she counterclaimed with the allegation that he had taken her to “sex clubs” in Paris, New York and New Orleans, which drove her to fall in love with another man.

(Republicans: If you plan a career in public office, please avoid marrying a wacko.)

Ryan had vehemently denied her allegations at the time, but it didn’t matter. The sex club allegations aired on “Entertainment Tonight,” “NBC Nightly News,” ABC’s “Good Morning America,” “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” and NBC’s “Today” show. CNN covered the story like it was the first moon landing.

(Interestingly, international papers also were ablaze with the story — the same newspapers that were supposed to be so bored with American sexual mores during Bill Clinton’s sex scandal.)

Four days after Judge Schnider unsealed the custody records, Ryan dropped out of the race for the horror of (allegedly) propositioning his own wife and then taking “no” for an answer.

Alan Keyes stepped in as a last-minute Republican candidate.

And that’s how Obama became a U.S. senator. He destroyed both his Democratic primary opponent and his Republican general election opponent with salacious allegations about their personal lives taken from “sealed” court records.

Obama’s team delved into Sarah Palin’s marriage and spread rumors of John McCain’s alleged affair in 2008 and they smeared Herman Cain in 2011 with hazy sexual harassment allegations all emanating from David Axelrod’s pals in Chicago.

It’s almost like a serial killer’s signature. Unsealed personal records have been released to the press. Obama must be running for office!

They didn’t have anything on Romney though, because he was so clean-cut, so they went after his tax records.

Sofia, the stupidity of that article about profits made by Australian banks in NZ, is that it neglects one very important point – How much of that profit was returned to New Zealanders by way of dividends.

I personally received far more than the $772 quoted, by way of dividend, as will have many other kiwis that hold stock in the banks. What about all the Kiwisaver funds that hold stock in the big 4 aussie banks?

This is where the fuckwits that pass for journalists in this country really fail the people. Just printing a Green party press release, without any economic understanding or considering the flipside. Somebody needs to call them out on this.

They’ve failed us since Douglas left and it’s time they faced up to it!

Labour talk about ‘poverty’ being the underpinning fact in all negative statistics in society, however the poorest youth in NZ are actually ALL at university. Students have next to no income, massive debt, and face the probability of no job in a weakening economy when they leave our universties. From a business point of view, that is a lot of risk on their table. And only business can help fix that.

Poor people under the Clarke Labour government, and when the international market economy was pissing down money, had no net wealth then, so they will certainly not be any better off under the next tax spending labour government in the current international economic enviroment.

Clarke has proved that socialism doesn’t work!

Labour are gone for another 3yrs.

Once upon a time there was a schoolboy who went by the name of Sindafella, and he was soon going to attend his first formal school ball. He lived with his mum and he was gay.

On the day of the school ball he approached his mum and said “Mum, I don’t have anything to wear.” His mum being the mum she was, threw some star dust in the air and POOF – Sindafella was spontanously dressed in a pair of electric blue rhinestone spangled underpants and a pair of red cordial coloured chapps. In his mouth was a flourescent green dummy.

Stuck in his arse was an orange coloured butt plug. As he was about to wave his mother good-bye she said “Enjoy your school ball Sindafella but remember, if you attempt to take out that butt plug or if you don’t return home by midnight, then it will turn into a 3kg pumpkin.” Sindafella acknowledged the advice, waved his mother good-bye, and minced off to the ball.

Midnight came and went, the hands of the clock went through 2am, then 4am, and at 6am in marched Sindafella. His mother being concerned said “Sindafella I am beside myself, are you O.K?” He replied “Yes mum I couldn’t be happier, I have meet a lovely male friend.”

Anyway Nasska, that is the original story of Cinderella and how nursery rhymes came to include peter peter pumpkin eater.

President Obama’s actions in refusing to attack Iran and in snubbing Netanyahu, and those of the Chairman of the JCS, General Martin Dempsey, in putting Netanyahu and the IDF in their place, give credence to the fact that America’s attitude and foreign policy strategy regarding Israel is rapidly changing…

• the former Securities Commission who FIVE times went to Crown Law for advice and FOUR times to an independent QC for advice

• and Petition 2011/5 of Penelope Mary Bright and 307 others, to the Commerce Select Committee of the New Zealand Parliament
and have exonerated John Banks in each of these considerations of your accusations

Isn’t Banks in court this week over the Dotcom thing? ”Moving on” seems to be trite saying for lets not look too closely and certainly don’t right any wrongs..Eventually , Banks will be outed.

Joana – If John Banks is in court this week in relation to Dotcom, that may be new and of interest, but the matter referred to above, the Huljich Kiwisaver Scheme Registered Prospectuses, has been examined at Penny’s instigation by FIVE authorities, each establishing John Banks has nothing to answer. There is nothing trite in that, nor in saying now regarding those matters, move on.

The Police Report on Bank’s mayor campaign returns does show an inaccurate return was made and signed by Banks. The problem there is that the Opposition, including Winston, lack the intelligence to frame a Parliamentary Question to reveal that, and his evasion in asking for a donation to be made in $25,000 amounts to be ‘lost’ or ‘anonymous’ among the others he knew to be there.
That is an entirely different matter to Penny’s Huljich obsession – and it is revealed as an obsession since she continues to mention it after she has had FIVE authorities clear Banks’ name.
