Am only halfway through the profile and it’s obvious that he thinks Shearer’s days are numbered. I concede that Cunliffe is a reasonable prospect for leader but he’d screw NZ with an FTT.

Ha ha – well put. But, like the fake Rolex, there are also some silly enough to buy into ‘Silent T’ and think he’s the real deal.

Labour deserted its traditional constituent base many moons ago and if they think ‘Silent T’ is the answer, they’ll remain rooted for a while yet.

The only parallel, in New Zealand politics, with the Labour party functionary's obsession with John Key is their National party counterpart's obsession with David Cunliffe. "The only thing Espiners article did was show the arrogance and vanity of the man. It is all about him and how he wants to be perceived." Every senior politician who is a regularly in the media spotlight is preoccupied with "...how he[/she] wants to be perceived." As a consequence of the importance of maintaining an image of confident sincerity in the mainstream media bubble any of those politicians - whether they be Labour, National or Green - could be, when compared with the ordinary constituent, presented as possessing an abundance of "...arrogance and vanity...". Anyone wanting to compare Espiner's slipperiness need only compare his John Key tribute with the David Cunliffe 'exposé'David Cunliffe 'exposé'.

Welcome to earth. A word of advice however. It pays to check facts first. The last person who suggested that Garner and Espiner are nat sympathisers is still on meds, still delusionary and is regarded as beyond recovery. The only thing Espiners article did was show the arrogance and vanity of the man. It is all about him and how he wants to be perceived. NZers are fed up to the back teeth with that approach. It is why politicians have lost all credibility. Cunliffe would be the worst thing to happen for NZ and the labour party.

Lucy hit the nail on the head. I’m no fan of Labour, but Cunliffe really is their best hope at presenting a tolerable alternative to Key.

Cunliffe is to National what Key is to Labour, their oponents actually fear them. They are utterly appalled at how ‘in touch’ either of these two come across on television. Which is why National’s hatchet team (Espiner, Farrar and Garner) are out to smear Cunliffe every chance they get, they know he is the only viable alternative Labour possesses.

The Labour caucus is very jealous of Cunliffe. He runs circles around them all intellectually and that makes them feel very threatened. It’s a case of old-fashion tall poppy syndrome and it’s a shame that they can’t just all get over themselves．If David was an American or even if he was in the National Party – he would not have the same problem. It is unfortunate that his skills and knowledge aren’t valued. The Labour caucus have cut off the nose to spite their face because David is the only one with any real chance of taking on Key. David Shearer has no show. And New Zealand misses out on a great Prime Minster – it’s lose / lose all around. Guyon is in John Key’s pocket so no surprise as to why he would cast David in an unflattering light.

Certainly not the most flattering write up by Guyon. Basically says, he’s and arrogant prick!

The irony is he would probably be a very good CEO or someting, but never in a million years, will the New Zealand public embrace this guy.
