I wonder what the demographic profile of listeners is for weekdays @4pm? When I catch the tail end of the show occasionally it makes me think of retired folk drinking tea in kitchen enjoying the weak afternoon winter sun and yes weak afternoon winter sun is a description of most of the discussion on the show as well (mine host excepted natch).

Personally I find the idea of RNZ being informative or cultured laughable. If you have any curiosity about a subject then RNZ is almost certainly going to be a joke source for it.

I like the free weekly Econtalk with Russ Roberts http://www.econtalk.org/

I also pay $4 per month for LawTalk with Richard Epstein and John Yoo http://ricochet.com/podcasts/law-talk and I get 2 or 3 other podcasts a week there

As Red says above Mark Levin is free every day and a lot of fun http://www.marklevinshow.com/sectional.asp?id=32930

And for story time this is far better than the crap on RNZ http://www.audible.com/

Sell TVNZ (if anyone would buy it), recapitalise RadioNZ and make it compete for ongoing funding through NZ On Air or the Ministry for Culture and Heritage. If RNZ can't make ends meet through that process, it should look for sponsorships or other revenue sources.
NZSO is a good mix of limited public funding, sponsorship and commercial revenue.
I'd chip in $50 per year if I could save the equivalent in the undoubtedly vast cost of state-subsidised psychotropic medicine for the likes of Redbaiter.

So according to our resident fascist Bedwetter any of us who like RNZ are nothing more than weds under the bed.

I happen to enjoy RNZ, I do not agree with most of the hosts who are all left wing but like longknives I appreciate that they are adults and not the mindless fuckwits you hear on music radio.

What I do object to is paying for RNZ.

The obvious solution is to sell RNZ and have the new owners compete in the private sector for advertising dollars, if the figures quoted for Jim Mora's show are true then RNZ could make a bloody fortune if they sold advertising.

"Bedwetter you clueless numpty."

I admit I was only guessing at the budget, but at least I'm smart enough to know that there are not 4 million taxpayers in NZ you pathetic dumbarse. In fact if you used the figure that represents real taxpayers, ie the comparitively few working in the productive sector, then it would only be about 1/8th of that 4 million, meaning the true figure per real taxpayer (if you're correct on the budget) is about $65.

But the cost is immaterial. It is the thought behind the action that is wrong, and its one that because you commies are such amoral scum, you extend right across the board into so many facets of our lives, and that thought is that if you want access to our wallets you merely elect the kind of cowardly left wing politicians who have absolutely no scruples in robbing Peter (me) to pay Paul (you), and they will in return for your vote, willingly enact the necessary legislation to enable this theft.

Such an abominable corruption of democracy and government.

Its difficult to understand how an organisation like Radio New Zealand could be defined as 'left leaning' when considering its governing board which includes its chaiman Richard Griffin (National party shill, former press secretary for Jim Bolger), Paul East (former National MP) and a handful of corporate drones from the PR and private radio sphere - little wonder the only person banned from reappearing on 'The Panel' is Martin 'Bomber' Bradbury after a fairly tepid criticism of John Key.

Radio New Zealand exists to reinforce establishment dogma by defining what the ruling elite considers the acceptable limits of political dissent. An example of these limits are best illustrated by the 'Politics' program after the 11 o'clock news on Mondays - from the right Matthew Hooton (fair enough) and from the left Josie Pagani. The only thing 'left' about Josie Pagani is the fact she is not Matthew Hooton.

I always listen to RNZ with The Panel being a daily highlight, but calling it left leaning just plane delusional.
