I’m sorry, but Gangnam Style is irredeemably gauche. Major aesthetic faux pas there, Mr Key. Although it would be just as bad if David Shearer, Russell or Metiria, Peter Dunne, John Banks or Winston got down and boogied. I suspect opinions on this are pretty much divided along the lines of those who already think Key is a decent, fun-loving bloke and those who think the Prime Minister should show a bit more gravitas.
New Zealand doesn’t count for much in the world. To the extent that people know or care who our Prime Minister is, or that we have a prime minister, they will most likely become aware of him through his various stunts. Good PR for the country?

Guess I’m getting too old for this shit. Frankly I’m amazed that between addressing rising childhood poverty, a childhood education system at war, rising house prices, exoduses to Oz, rising unemployment, suicidally misadvised re-allocation of funding in the tertiary sector, rising GST, petrol prices, food prices and reduced ability of the population to meet them, this ‘man of the people’ has the time and energy to dance ‘gangnam style’.

Yeah yeah, I know, I should ‘lighten up’, get a sense of humour, etc., no one cares, what difference does it make – all of that.

Well, it would be lovely to see Key come out with some kind of – you know – ‘plan’ to try and – I don’t know – ‘lead the country?’.

If NZ were a hospital patient, Key would look resemble a surgeon of questionable competence perusing a ‘DNR’ form, just before gapping it to go join the office party so he could let his hair down a bit, and show what a great guy he is to the nursing staff.

The man is a good sport. I don’t think that’s a bad thing in a Prime Minister.

In years to come when most people have long forgotten all the day-to-day bullshit issues and decisions etc… he’ll be well remembered as a bloke who was a good sport… had a sense of humour… and you can’t help but like at least that about him.

I say good for him.

As for Richard Hurst…. if John Key could balance a ball on his nose and bark like a seal at the same time… he’d be an international sensation. That would be brilliant!! He’d get my vote just for that trick by itself. And what a boring predictable example for your dreary depressing old codger style ‘what’s next’ comment too.

Some people have got to relax. This aint the 1960s anymore mate. This is a backwater little pinprick of a country in the middle of buttfuck and nowhere. 4.5M…. pffff!!!! No-one anywhere gives a shit what NZ’s leader does unless it’s particularly unusual. More people worldwide know who Peter Jackson is than know what NZ is.

If JK puts it all on only to boost his popularity then good for him. Smart man. People should vote on policy anyway, not a leader’s Gangnam style.

I did think that Obama’s little tear or two looked a bit forced and fake but even then…. that makes a change that a US president projects that image rather than leaders who never show a softer side in public. He’ll be remembered as a bloke who was man enough to be able to show emotion and not give a rat’s arse what anyone else says or thinks.

I think Psy can get a pass for his rather populist song when Korean anti-American fervour was at its height. That was right after two girls got run over and killed by US soldiers, and because Korea is still technically at war they were regarded as collateral damage and the soldiers were immune from prosecution by Korean courts. Not a complete excuse, but it expressed the sentiments of the time.
