Did Key actually say “I pledge I will find out”? Or, even after Pike River, did he dare say “I promise”?
Just changing a verb here and an adjective there, is not as full-on as Holmes confession that prior to the Historic Interview he discussed with his producer their intention to cause Dennis Connor to walk, but it is annoying to have to decipher just the simplest news item to separate the sparse facts from the reporter’s own bullshit.

Clause 2 provides for the Bill to come into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.

As representative of the Queen, does the Governor General reflect the Queen’s belief’s on this matter, her being Head of the Church of England – expressly exempt for the British same sex marriage bill – or the New Zealand Parliament?
And if not, why have Royal assent to anything?

Ive never heard Mau speak openly before.. shes normally reading news or whatever. cant say i was impressed.

it does make me laugh the way they always sneer the word “bloggers”. like bloggers are just a joke. reality is – the crap the likes of mau serves up is a joke.

So, a new week and its seems Mr Slippery is right up there, this time for either another memory lapse or just plain telling porkies.

The identity of a United States spy who mysteriously landed in Wellington last year can be revealed as National Security Agency director General Keith Alexander.

The visit by the senior spook was so top secret that Prime Minister John Key repeatedly refused to name him. The four-star general sparked intrigue when his US army jet landed at the capital’s airport late in November.

Mr Key, the minister in charge of intelligence services, initially denied knowledge of the plane, and, despite pledging to find out more, later refused to reveal the identity of the visitor.

Sources say General Alexander visits New Zealand up to four times a year, and Mr Key would have approved the visits.

Green MP Holly Walker is grizzling about a charity wanting sponsors for Kiwi Kids. She wants government to provide everything.

I think that’s a major flaw in Green’s good intentions – they want the power to deliver social solutions whereas decent leadership would be inspiring individuals and communities to do more for themselves. So Greens have a conflict of increasing political power versus helping to empower people.

In New Zealand, as in England, the Royal Assent is something of a formality, the Governor-General gives his assent as advised by the Executive Council (the Cabinet plus the GG). The GG does have reserve power to refuse assent, but this has never been exercised in NZ and is available to him in case of some form of constitutional crisis.

Very good petition stated on the Whitehouse web site. (The public can start peitions there that the WH has to consider if they get over 100,000 petitioners – it used to be 25,000 but they raised it).

The petition says –

Eliminate armed guards for the President, Vice-President, and their families, and establish Gun Free Zones around them

Gun Free Zones are supposed to protect our children, and some politicians wish to strip us of our right to keep and bear arms. Those same politicians and their families are currently under the protection of armed Secret Service agents. If Gun Free Zones are sufficient protection for our children, then Gun Free Zones should be good enough for politicians.

Well duh! Anyone think a government can move costs away from consumers back to producers? Short of price setting, any reduction in beneficial tariffs would end up being funded by the consumers, in this instance the very same citizens who are being forced to fund a Green wet dream

The United States needs a range of strategies. But I don’t think tackling Law and Order and NCIS is it. Every rational person agrees civility is a good thing. But understanding the forces which promote incivility is somewhat harder.

If you think media violence is to blame then surely it would be good to explain why violent crime has tended to decrease over the last 20 years when arguably there is more realistic and violent media than ever before.

Given we generally rate at or about the top of many indices rating quality of life, economic freedom etc. I’d say we should have a lot to talk about. I suspect by “arrogant” you mean saying things you disagree with.

The evidence would appear to indicate otherwise. The cost per unit power from solar has been decreasing exponentially for 30 years (not including government subsidy) which would suggest that solar is on a trajectory to achieve parity with other more efficient sources of energy (coal etc.) in probably less than 10 years.

“Their predictions have largely failed, four times in a row… what that means is that it’s time for them to re-evaluate,” Spencer said.

The IPCC’s climate report draft also notes that “the model projections … do not fully account for natural variability.”

kowtow if replacing Crown rule with an elected President as head of government and ruling via a constitution with universal (non slave) male franchise was not change in the 18th C, what would be?

Having continued parliamentary governance with the government appointed GG acting as full Crown (of the New Zealand peoples sovereignty) Governor within the constitutional inheritance we now have (in place of the foreign head of state) is a very minor change in comparison – it’s not betrayal of the white Anglo-Saxon group of nations and our Echelon 5 eyes membership.

Why do people have to externalise their sovereignty as something issued by the Crown or by God (as in the USA where they claim their natural rights were given to them by God)? In the UK the people are still called subjects of the Crown. Is this supposed to enhance the authority of government? That is the sort of concept that may have been necessary before the franchise was truly universal – male and female, but is not so relevant now.

It was about 2-3 years ago but it got found by the security software company, a german company that had the contract. I think it had a first roll of if detected would draw back trackers off to a different system and it’s second roll was to turn off one small valve that would set in motion some serious damage. A prediction that has been made time and again. Since 1947 the US has averaged 3.25% annual growth. Q3 2012 saw 3.10% growth. The US has sustained positive growth for the last few years. I see no evidence of this decline. Despite various recessions and the great depression the US has sustained long term exponential growth in productivity. Talk of decline is nothing more than ideological rhetoric IMHO, whether it’s based on right wing fear of blacky mc blackenstein or left wing antipathy towards the United States in general.

Not forecasting a balanced budget for the next twenty years and borrowing like hell to pay for unsustainable spending is going to have an impact in the future. . Unless they manage to return to living within their means they must decline in overall living standards sooner or later.
I watch the indexes and it would not surprise me if the present budget problems begin to effect their standing of living in the short -2 year term.

Except that if the past is anything to go by the great depression and the second world war had little impact on the country’s long term trajectory of economic growth. I find it difficult to believe that the recent recession (which has ended) and the current fiscal problems are going to greatly impact the long term future of the united states whether or not temporary hits are taken to people’s standard of living through benefit cuts or whether modest tax increases are implemented.

Moreover people’s standard of living is greatly influenced by technological progress, and the cost of technology is coming down whilst improving in it’s applications. The “can’t live withouts” of the 2030s likely haven’t been invented yet.

It has now been conclusively and scientifically demonstrated that the supposed man tracks are not those of humans. Both sets of tracks are highly weathered, so it’s impossible to draw too many precise conclusions. The “man” tracks appear to be not human in origin but seem to have a few different features collaborating to form the illusion of human tracks, including excessive weathering of the details and some carved features that may have been doctored at a later date. There are numerous other tracks attributed to humans, but none stand up to any scientific scrutiny. The Burdick Print seems to show a well defined human foot preserved in stone, but given the 15 inch length and the hilariously over defined toes (for something that would have been imprinted in soft mud) only an idiot would suggest they were anything but a forgery. Nevertherless, close scrutiny has been done and confirmed most tracks like these are forged carvings being passed off as genuine fossilised human footprints. The State Park Ledge tracks, small indentations found in a rock formation in Dinosaur Valley, Somervell County, Texas, have been jumped on by track enthusiasts but are just later erosion features with only a superficial resemblance to anything actually man-made.

Only the most die hard creationists still use this as evidence for a young earth any more. Answers in Genesis includes the Paluxy tracks among those “Arguments that should be avoided” as even they can recognise blatant cases where further research is still needed, new research has invalided aspects of it, or biblical implications may discount it.

Thirteen Reasons to live in Auckland ….

1. Satan worshipping residents of Auckland are spared
unnecessary anguish and discomfort when they die because the
transition to hell is hardly noticeable.
2. Auckland has fewer syllables than Wellington so that
Aucklanders can spell it.
3. People who can’t get in to Wellington have to have somewhere

a large area so that when you are in Auckland the statistical
chances of running into an Aucklander are as low as possible.
8. The Auckland Rugby Union names it Super 12 team after a
colour just in case they had any deaf supporters.
9. Auckland is the nation’s Prozac. People who don’t live in
Auckland use that fact to ward off depression.
10. Auckland is vital to New Zealand’s defence against alien
invasion. Invading space monsters will go straight to our largest
urban centre thinking it is actually important in some way. While
the aliens waste their time assaulting our decoy the rest of us
will have time to organise a counter strike. This aspect of
Auckland has taken on added significance since the discovery of
life on Mars.
11. People from Kaitaia need somewhere to go for petrol on their
way to Wellington.
12. Aucklanders have recovered from their feelings of phallic
inadequacy by erecting a 40 storey pole with a knob on top in the
middle of the city.
13. Auckland fulfils an important role in Maori mythology.
Maori legend has it that the North Island is the fish of Maui.
Wellington is the head and mouth of Maui’s fish, New Plymouth and Gisborne are its fins and Auckland is its arsehole.

I do not believe that the usa has the political structure or will to stop the present overspending.
The Republicans have maneuvered into a corner where they could not implement the tax increases needed to return to a reasonable state of balance. this hamstrings the president as well The only glowing light for them is if they finally manage to extract from the middle east. If they have found as much economic hydro carbons as claimed they will no longer need to spend billions on wars and politics over oil

I do not think that the huge changes in manufacturing and technology that gave the USA such a boost during the war and soon after will be repeated in the future with as yet unknown technology’s Or that if such progress is made it will be centered in the usa
I also believe that over the next two decades continental climates will have adverse effects on their economy’s due to a ever increasing cost of extreme weather. This will not effect the whole usa but will strain the more agrarian areas leading to rising unemployment and decreased income for such regions.

And yet the device I am using now was unknown technology ten years ago. Google was unknown 15 years ago. YouTube was unknown 8 years ago. Information technology has shown remarkable consistency. Advancement has been relatively smooth and predictable. Other technologies are also starting to show the same exponential increases whether it’s the cost per dollar of solar power or the cost of DNA sequencing. Moreover the computing power in your phone will continue to occupy an increasingly smaller space opening up new applications that seem impractical now. Technology is increasing at such a rate that advancements ten years in the future seem far fetched and then when they happen it’s seen as inevitable.

As for the USA being the center they are certainly not the only advanced nation on Earth but they still have many of the leading universities and they are a world leader in technology. All this despite a shocking number of people who believe in Creationism. 🙂

While it is impossible to prove that these are phony quotes, no historian has been able to verify the original citation required for authenticity. It is better to be safe than sorry. His talk helped me understand why i thought the old Euro Empires of the 19th and the early 20th and this early 21st century felt similar but i could be patterning where there is no dots.

IF You or any other of the nutters can point to a post where I supported carbon trading, carbon limiting measures, or any other Present form of carbon control could you please point it out. From my drug soaked memory all I can think of is building hydro dams and easing the RMA to enable micro generating schemes to be developed cheaply. I have used renewable energy however it was side effect of choosing to live on my yacht rather than a mad green brain fart.

All you are doing by attempting to label me green is showing off your inability to examine the reality around you. Your views of reality are blinded by your ideological positions. Just because science and the modern world bewilders some nutters on the right does not mean that all people with a ability to examine reality are of the left wing or socialist.

We have a problem with the future climate. No amount of reading blog sites paid for by the oil industry or blatantly biased and untruthful newspaper story’s will change the facts.

How many times have you people brought up the same refuted rubbish or quoted pseudo science that contradicts the last story I have lost count of.
