Rich Prick Doesn’t Want To Pay Rates
Penny Bright has shown her true colours of the ultimate hypocrite.

… Penny Bright, a serially unsuccessful candidate in mayoral elections, stopped paying her rates in 2008 to protest a lack of council transparency. She said she would pay only when the council revealed details of the contracts it was awarding to private businesses as Aucklanders had a right to know where their money was being spent.

Recalling the reason for her rates protest, Bright said: “I wasn’t going to pay my rates as long as they weren’t going to tell me where my money was going.”

How about the taxpayer get a list of everyone receiving the dole? Or the ratepayers receive a list of everyone in a council house and how long they have lived at the address?

1] Auckland City Council is so fucking dumb it is scared any action against Bright will be interpreted as harassment of a “freedom fighter” hahahahahaha haha ha
2] Everyone else, especially those so much worse off than Bright apparently is, should not pay their rates – YOU CAN GET AWAT WITH IT FOR YEARS
3] Bright has no credibility in commenting on what Auckland City Council does – she doesn’t pay her rates, so their business is none of her business

Very disappointing to see John Key ‘leading’ the way into a parliamentary shitfight this year. It’s time Key and many other MPs grew up and gave parliament the gravitas it deserves.

Key seems to not only accept acrimonious as ok, he’s stoking it. That’s a very bad look for Prime Minister.

“Andrew Loader, 49, has been suspended for two months pending a disciplinary hearing, the Teachers Council said yesterday.”

They suppressed the name of the school, but a simple google search finds him. The only way to protect the school would be to suppress his name. Even then, it will be posted somewhere.

Point being, the laws around suppression are stupid in the internet age.

[But First Union general secretary Robert Reid] said salary jumps of $20,000 pointed to the growing inequality between highly skilled workers and workers who desperately needed more money.

Perhaps Reid could drop the envy, and encourage those who need more money to seek more skills, take career risks, be prepared to relocate, work harder etc.

It is a joke so lets treat them like the punch line. National clearly have a plan and he reiterated that in his speech but if the MSM is not going to take the fools on the left to task (such as ripping Shearer apart for the KiwiBuild policy) then it is EVERYONE on the right of that’s obligation to put a light on it.

And I disagree with this – if Key and National want their criticisms to be taken seriously then they need to act as if they are serious, not as if they are goons.

And they are suckers if they let themselves be drawn into the Labour-Green plan to antagonise and disrupt their governance.

Yes, it looks like National have started the year with a plan, and its a disgraceful way to abuse their position as supposed leaders of the country. It reflects very poorly on Government.

Decent leaders would act with dignity and respect for the institution they are a part of – and lead by example, not get led into shitty squabbling.

For coming up 5 years the opposition ranks have launched repeated personal attacks on Key. It’s time he came out swinging and tells it how it is. If that stirs a few feathers, then tough.

Longknives – I suspect it’s just the media rotation policy. Priests were in the sights for a while, now it’s school teachers, and soon we’ll be back to youth leaders and social workers. Building a news category help sell advertising, and once it’s stale it’s time to move on.

Fair enough to point it out – but the manner in which he pointed it out has detracted from the message. The headlines where all about the stoushing and nothing about the housing. Key has been dragged down to a duckpond level. A win for Labour.

Labour and the Greens spout so much drivel that is never pushed back by the media its just incredible. Nats and Key especially need to get on the front foot more and show this bullshit up for what it is and get it into the publics brains that there are no credible opposition parties.

and Key has a great chance to hammer Shearer because very few will vote for Labour with a weak leader.

All these things have always been going on, but, the media are like a pack (or herd?) of lemmings.

I agree, I’ve pointed that out a number of times. Every time he appears in media he discredits himself. There are ways that National can nudge that along, but I think yesterday was the wrong time and place, and Key was the wrong person to be doing it.

The Prime Minister’s Speech should be prime ministerly, setting the tone for how he wants his year to be.

I’ll be very disappointed if that’s Key’s tone for the year. Very unbecoming for a person in his position. Poor parliamentary behaviour is probably one of the biggest factors in turning people off politics and for people despising Government.

I want Key to lead the country, and set the country an example of decent behaviour. If he continues as he started yesterday he might win some petty battles but the war will be that much harder to survive.

Dime isn’t a big fan of the way MP’s act in parliament. I guess its unavoidable when half the house is pure trash.

However, in some instances im ok with piss taking. That includes yesterday.

Why give the ridiculous “policies” put forward by labour and the greens any respect? they should be openly mocked by everyone.

im sure its frustrating for you though PG, sitting at home, nude, covered in peanut butter, waiting for Dunne to have his turn. but thats more an issue for you to deal with than anyone else 🙂

dime – from what I hear there are a lot of people outside the political bubble who, peanut butter or not (I prefer crunchy), are very frustrated with the childish antics of the most visible members of parliament – because of course media report the worst of it.

And I know (from direct contact) there are quite a few members of parliament who are pissed off with far too much mudslinging and crapfighting in parliament too.

So it should come as no surprise that Sudan was yesterday elected vice chair of the UN body which oversee human rights, alongside Pakistan and Albania

The UN is a filthy den of dictators, despots and world government fanatics. No sensible country should remain aligned to this organisation.

His false data was naturally accepted as fact, as it suited them.

I assume he is still living in California and still suing NIWA for something.

RN – One of the amusing ‘tells’ from the warmist fraternity is when we hear of their ‘concern at the lack of warming’.

A charitable interpretation could be that they’re concerned that their models have proven wrong, but the more likely reason is that they fear the cessation of their fat research grants.

krazykiwi, we are seeing the dying days of AGW theory. We can expect to see its adherents become increasingly shrill, but public opinion is changing, and with it, government support. Goverments only supported AGW as a vote buying measure anyway, as they wanted to be seen as “caring for the environment”. Once there are not votes in it, they will (and have) change their tune.

When the money starts drying up, we will see the vested interests changing their tune and following the money. I predict the “scientific consensus” will change in line with funding cuts from government. I predict the AGW promoters will construct another crisis in order to keep their money and appear relevant.

The interesting discussion (to come) is around how this all became so big and out of control.

Affordable Housing needs to be looked at in terms of Second hand housing as well as newly built. I believe we really need to tighten up our laws on overseas foreign investors who dont pay one bit of tax in NZ. Snapping up our redidential housing stock. What is really worrying is we have no stats on what they have already purchased. There are Bus loads of off shore investors being taken round popular suburbs in Auckland who then purchase property and finance it from off shore. I am a National supporter and being from the Industry I am dismayed with what is happening. If National think this going to go away they have rocks in their heads, none of us can go to Japan and buy a house if we dont live there or arent a resident Many other countries in the world are the same. This article in the Herald on the Weekend shows people are waking up to what is going on, and it will become an election issue, and needs to be!

Toby Manhire at The Listener has analysed John Key’s Prime Minister’s Statement from yesterday in parliament and finds that he criticised the opposition more than he promoted his own party and programme 85-57

He mentioned Labour-Greens four times as much as National.

Two Davids (Shearer+Cunliffe) were mentioned more than the economy.

Actually it would be great if he got on with doing something constructive instead of trying to lower himself to the level of certain comedians of notoriety.

It was suppossedly a speach about what the Govt. were to do this year. Instead it contained nothing of substance and suggests that the Nats. are going to continue sleep walking to the bankruptcy court.

Praise and promotion of our proposals to deal with legal highs in an article in New Statesman by Kasia Malinowska-Sempruch (the director of Open Society Foundations Global Drug Policy Program).

New Zealand, legal highs and sensible supply-side policies

The UK government could learn a lot from New Zealand about how to sensibly control the proliferating supply of so-called “legal highs”, according to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Drug Policy Reform.

While governments in Europe and the United States frantically ban substances to keep up with new synthetic drugs, lawmakers in New Zealand are using reason and a sensible legislative process to “to protect vulnerable consumers, particularly young people.”

Yet far from being another ham-fisted crackdown on drugs, the New Zealand proposal represents the first steps to a regulated market, which would require any new substances to go through a lengthy testing process before they could be approved for legal sale.

Potential manufacturers of new psychoactive substances will have to submit to roughly $180,000 NZD (£95,000 GBP) in application fees plus an additional NZ$1m to NZ$2m (around £526,000 to £1.05m) in costs to test each product they want to sell.

And there are strict penalties for attempts to bypass the law, which could go into effect later this year, including up to eight years in prison.

This is a monumental development for a number of reasons.

The New Zealand policy aims to halt the legislative incentive to develop more new drugs.

“A useful feature of New Zealand’s planned policy is to assess both the harms arising from a particular substance and the harms arising from controlling it.”

Might we the UK also be better served by begin regulatory processes to understand the drugs that people are taking and developing policies that address their relative risks?

That is precisely what New Zealand has started doing. It’s worth a closer look.

Straight men more stressed, depressed than gay men, study says

A Canadian study on anxiety and sexual orientation suggests that heterosexual men suffer more depression and higher levels of stress than gay and bisexual men.

Authors said they were not surprised to find that homosexuals who had disclosed their sexual orientation to friends and family showed fewer signs of depression than those who had yet to come out. However, they said they did not anticipate that the overall systemic stress, or allostatic load, measured in straight men would exceed all groups.

“Interestingly and contrary to our hypothesis, gay and bisexual men had significantly lower depressive symptoms and allostatic load levels than heterosexual men,” wrote lead author Robert-Paul Juster, a neuroscientist at McGill University.

Heterosexual men registered a third higher on an index of allostatic load compared with gay and bisexual men.

I wonder if the stress gap would increase if marriage equality became law.

On the drug supply side policy – it was always a smarter option to identify the safest party pill on the market and require quality control of its production to ensure it was safe as could be. This was always better for their health than driving them to binge drinking or cannabis while young, or worse whatever was offered by gangs – P etc.

The harmful effects of E use were lower than for binge drinking and other alternatives.

Things have gotten so bad in North Korea, that people there are resorting to cannibalism.

In North Korea, while Kim Jong Un is spending a fortune on two rocket launches in recent months and taken food away from the farming provinces of North and South Hwanghae to feed the people in the capital of Pyongyang, reports claim starving villagers in the provinces have resorted to cannibalism.

After the food was confiscated for residents of the capital, a drought followed, killing as many as 10,000 people in those provinces.

One man was executed when it was discovered he had killed his two children and eaten them. Another man reportedly dug up his grandchild’s body and ate it. A third boiled his own child to be eaten.

Last year, according to the South Korean state-run Korean Institute for National Unification, one North Korean man was executed when he attempted selling the remains of a colleague as mutton. There were two other reports of cannibalism.

He boasted that he told her that her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, laundry and ironing twice a week, lawns mowed, windows cleaned and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn’t see anything, the second day he didn’t see anything, but by the third day most of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye. Enough to fix himself a bite to eat, load the dishwasher, and call a handyman.

The RBNZ has sold NZ$¼ billion in the currency markets recently. Is this an attempt to push the NZ$ down?

Has the Reserve Bank of New Zealand intervened to try and drive the NZ dollar down?

In data released today, the RBNZ balance sheet shows it spent at least NZ$199 million selling the NZ$ in December, on top of at least NZ$64 million in late November.

So free insulation will not help reduce energy demand: people respond to the reduced cost of heating by consuming more of it. This is worth knowing as some parties think that improved insulation is a substitute for greater generation capacity.

Health outcomes improved consequent to better heating. The MOTU reports found a 3.9:1 benefit-to-cost ratio, but that 71% of total benefits were from reduced mortality. As a public health intervention to reduce mortality, this could be fine.

He then goes on to say ‘Measured energy use was shown to increase slightly with the installation of clean heat installation’ whatever that means. Probably the installation of a heat pump.

Only 37 of 194 nations signed the treaty that replaces the Kyoto Protocol, which expires December 31 – and several countries may withdraw their consent. That means the new agreement is legally non-binding and covers only at best 15% of global carbon dioxide emissions.

What it amounts to is that it isn’t worth the effort if the stated goal is to save energy. Clearly not viable on a cost basis and if you add double glazing the costs overide the saving big time.
Whereas double glazing is much more efficient than underfloor insulation or wall insulation.
But we knew all this before your theiving pricks decided to rob taxpayers of their hard earned money.
Easier to add more clothes.

Double glazing is just another form of insulation. Why does it pay off better than any other form?

Double glazing and wall insulation are the most expensive in refits – the most advantageous is ceiling insulation and this is what is most often done.

But if you had actually taken any notice of what I’ve frequently said, I’m not anti-Labour.

I’m pro a strong and credible Labour opposition that reviltalises so they are ready to lead a government again, but as most people notice, many like me with despair, nothing like that seems to be close to happening.

I’m anti Labour continuing to trainwreck themselves, so far they have wasted four years of rebuilding time which is pathetic and worrying – for the future of Labour and the future of oNew Zealand politics and parliament.

BTW I don’t have a leader, I say what I feel like saying. Are you more familiar with commenting on a different basis to that?
