This life taker’s days of fame is short, 16 years is a very long time. In a year he will be forgotten, in 4 years he will know he was forgotten, by 8 years his youth will have all but fled him as he wallows in his own memories but knowing british justice and budget cuts he could be out in 7?

David, there are many reasons Turner could have been assaulted by fellow inmates….”a sense of decency” is unlikely to be one of them

For once we’re in (almost) complete agreement, as I imagine the unwritten subtext of that comment is “…because no in in prison has any sense of decency”.

What would have got him bashed was the “bragging about fan mail”, not his crime – prison is the very model of an egalitarian society. There might be a pecking order, but it’s established through events that occur inside the prison. You don’t arrive and start carrying on as though you’re a cut above everyone else because your crime made you famous, nutters write you letters, or anything else. Just ask Jeffrey Archer.

Ignore the little jerk, don’t follow him, don’t recognise him, pretend he doesn’t exist. But keep publishing what happens to him, keep putting his name in lights, even in a bad way, just feeds his personality and his desire for fame.

Make him a nobody. Believe me, he’ll hate that more than any of the prison justice dished up to him.

The only surprise in all of this is that it has taken this long, especially after Turner described his fellow prison-dwellers whilst on remand thus:

I’m the only educated person who doesn’t live in a hostel in this prison.”

At least the uneducated hostel-dwellers have a sense of what is right and wrong…

to be honest, the family probably is telling him life will be good when hes out. or at least normal. gotta have something to look forward to!
