A bit harsh to call him ‘unprofessional’ – really – people can do what they want. And it’s not ‘unusual’ at all. Loads of people have quit jobs at the executive level in a short time frame. If you’re not happy in the role, then you don’t do the company or yourself any favours by sticking it out.

I haven’t watched TV news for *years*. I’ll catch up on the headlines and sport via the Stuff website, and get other bits and pieces from around blogs and so forth.

Btw – as a reaction to the ultra-PC media environment in Sweden, there is a new centre-right paper over there (both in “dead tree” and online forms).

I have subscribed to the online version for a year – not because I particularly need the news content, but simply to support what is an outspoken and non-PC paper. They’re very rare nowadays.

At least TVNZ still have a serious morning news show. They are currently building up to a restart next week (there's been no news worth delivering over the past few weeks) with a challenging item:

Shooting the first weekly challenge for 2013 which involves @Toni_Street wearing these! Tune in next week...

The pic is of small feet in clodhoppers. Maybe the new head of news and current affairs will take up a much bigger challenge and initiate something really groundbreaking into the show - ah, on second thoughts, no point in dreaming.

Would have been reasonable to include Dagan’s specific comments, which included an apology for the timing of his resignation, before putting the reflection of his decision being “unusual and almost umprofessional”. One can only imagine the disappointment he faced in not staying for the introduction of Seven Sharp. The tone of the article was a reasonable one unlike the personal tone of this post. At least the article had the decency to note what he’d done in the role.

Very good point kk, how hard would it be for any TVNZ head of news and current affairs appointee not to be able to serve up scripted & manufactured tabloid trash and somehow there end up being fireworks and controversy within the organisation? It’s a stretch to call it ‘news and current affairs’ isn’t it? More like tabloid trash desperately dressed up to appear professional.
