One thing I’ve learned Manolo – you know things are a tad sensitive when the low blows start coming.

DG – I’m aware with how the media works. I presume you would agree that Rodney would be well aware of what the media can do with any comments made, especially at an event where media are encouraged to attend.

Presumably he would be aware of the risk of commenting as he did. Sure he was joking, that was obvious. But joking that could easily be taken as being about hating the poor and hating the Maoris – when Act already have a reputation of being anti poor and anti Maori – risks getting lambasted and scorned.

And the result of this may impact more on National – because they get milder criticism in the same vein, and Act are trying to try themselves almost inseparably with National. It might make no difference in the end for Act, but it could drag National down just a bit more. Which may be enough to lose them the next election.

But you haven’t answered the question Peter…WHY did you claim in your original post that Hide “refused to revisit” his comment when that is absolutely untrue?

(I’d offer to pose the question another way, but it’s simply not possible to do so…)

If you were repeating second hand information from the MSM or elsewhere, have the guts to say so….

Is that incorrect?

And, ah, most voters get their political pointers from the MSM, that’s where elections are won and lost. It may not be a great way of doing it but it’s reality.

And why would @ActParty say it is not a party view but also not dispute what was reported?

And on the subject of the MSM and ACT generally…

Andrea Vance from Stuff has written three pieces on the ACT conference…each one containing disparaging remarks about me (I am used to that) and “facts” that are just plain wrong. Her masterpiece this morning in the SST refers to ACT’s “zenith” of five MP’s in 2008…in fact ACT had NINE MP’s in both 1999 and 2002, a fact which Ms Vance could have verified if she had looked further than Wikipedia…seriously, Google “ACT Party” and see what you get….

This is exactly the sort of shit we got all the time from these bastards…

My census form arrived today. Perhaps it is the libertarian streak in me coming to the surface but I bloody object to some of the questions.

I can deal with the questions on page one, they are a bit intrusive but nothing that I object to answering. However page two is where the fun starts.

As far as I am concerned it is none of the governments business…

What language I speak (Q13)
What my health is like (Q16) & (Q17)
What my religion is (Q18)
If I smoke or not (Q20) & (Q21) & (Q22)
What my relationship status is (Q23)
What my qualifications are (Q26) & (Q27) & (Q28)
What my Income is (Q30) & (Q31) & (Q32)

I think that for the first time I will simply refuse to answer these questions. If the wankers want to fine me then so be it. The government has no need to know any of this information.

And now I am in full stride (and it’s not even alcohol fuelled; I am on the wagon!) I personally disagreed with ACT’s media strategy (sorry Shelley) which was basically to appease the bastards and try and be nice so we’d get at least some coverage…We would have done a lot better to say something like “You can’t be relied upon to report accurately so piss off” to the ones about which that was true, and speak to the real journos only….

As I have said on here several times, I always got a fair shake from the journos at RNZ, the supposed “Red Radio”…the questions were on point- if not always easy to answer – and I was always treated with courtesy and allowed to give my answer without being talked over….

In another era, Patrick Gower would have had his microphone shoved up his nose when he stuck it into interviewees’ faces…Not all change is progress….

I asked @ActParty to give me a statement on it and I would circulate it. They said they would, but so far nothing. If the party wants their official version they need to get it out.

A while back my friends were outraged that same-sex couples are denied surrogacy here in QLD, so I asked them: “Why don’t the rights of children matter?”

“I don’t see how their parent’s sexuality affects the rights of a child.”

I pointed out that no child in the history of the world has had ‘homosexual parents’. Every child has one mother and one father.They seriously didn’t get it watty. A child has the right to their natural mother and father.

Imagine that – the right to designer children but no rights to the natural parents. how selfish and immature!

It was the first time I was really confronted by the stupidity of such arguments and I was also surprised that it was such BRUTE stupidity.

However Watty, I am now less surprised with the comments you make! 😎

DG – you should at least get on record your version of what happened, even if it doesn’t get out to MSM it should be posted or press released so there is an official rebuttal. Otherwise in the future only one version will be found easily when it is Googled.

I’m not chief pamphlet deliver for anyone but myself. Most of what I do is not party related, I operate independently. You’ve just blasted me and media for making things up, why are you doing likewise?

I’m well aware of how media operates in this country. I’ve confronted Gower over coverage myself. You can’t change what was broadcast but you have to put it on record what your side of the story is.

Did you advise Vance of her error? If you do that reasonably some journos are happy to at least acknowledge the error and are unlikely to repeat it.

Ranting and raging is the least effective way of dealing with it.

Yes, I do know what a margin of error is. That’s why I put one of these 🙂 next to my comment.

It’s a bit sad that ACT is polling at the margin of error though. If you do the minus part of the plus or minus the margin of error, it puts ACT at zero!
You can’t really blame the media for the low polling. Interesting comment about Radio NZ though, I tend to agree. With current affairs consisting of 15 second soundbites these days, Radio New Zealand is fast becoming the only place to get any detailed coverage about current issues.

Artificial insemination[designer children] already don’t have the legal right to one or both of their parents in Australia.

If a child is ‘born’ in a gay relationship, and demands to see and/or live with their natural mother/father instead of their gay parents, they are now legally denied that by law.

Children therefor are NOT allowed to live/see their own natural parents of the opposite sex to their gay parents.

In other words, they HAVE to recide in a MM or FF relationship by law!

This is far differant than the traditional adopted child not being allowed to live with their natural parents as their adoptive parents are MF.

Peter Dunn and United Future are a waste of space!

Far from it, they are quite useful for National this term and have a deciding say on a lot of legislation.

They give National an option that doesn’t require the Maori Party, many will see that as not a waste of space.

National’s options are severely limited if they don’t have potential coalition partners in the mix. They were polling over 50% coming into the last election but that was pulled back to prevent them ruling on their own, under MMP that has never happened and it is likely to remain one of the least palatable outcomes.

So anyone that wants to increase National’s prospects in the forseeable future must see the necessity of having some support party options.

Like it or not that’s the nature of MMP.
