Wrong on many levels (“fundamental economic activity”?), but if true, so what? Imagine for a moment an absurd scenario where 95% of the human race becomes gay thanks to this legislation (because the “protection” of marriage is the only thing preventing this, right?), and we simply stop progenating. So what? You’ll be long gone and it won’t make any difference to you.

Unless of course you believe you’ll be sitting on your cloud, plucking your harp, observing all this, and muttering “I told you so”.

In all this talk about “rights” the rights of children to grow up in homes with their mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters gets completely ignored.

We cannot accomplish this ideal for all children but we can put in place social structures that will lead to this happy outcome for the vast majority.

In fact, they all engaged in sex with outside partners, even though they professed to be in a monogamous relationship.

The very best way of doing this as millenia of human experience has shown is to have this vital task done by the mother and father of those children. Not only is this cheaper for society as a whole but children so raised a far more likely to be well adjusted to and socialised the society in which they will live and work.

This is why marriage has developed, this is why it is an important social institution, a fundamental one.

And this is why rewriting it so that upper middle class twits can marry partners of the same sex is off the wall insane

The week we have had Mr Selywn Pellet giving a submission to the Opposition inquiry into manufacturing (or is it an enquiry into the exchange rate, I forgot)

In respecting gay rights, we also need to respect various other cultural rights and sensitivities. Messing with heritage and inherent social institutions is like dismantling a very expensive intricate clock.
