Isn’t it disgraceful Tom. How dare they. A dog at the beach, loping around and just being a great big silly, as they often do, at the beach. Well I never.

Or they could simply go to one of the many beaches that doesn't have "No Dogs at Any Time" signs posted everywhere by the local council. But that would require exercising some kind of responsibility on their part, or the ability to read which they don't seem to possess. What part of "No Dogs" don't these morons understand?

pq, no family moggy mentioned but cats certainly are "2.3 The biggest threats to our forests
There are a number of mammals that threaten our native ecosystems – possums,

of forests there are three that consistently feature on the ‘most wanted’ list –
possums, rats and stoats." "3.4 ... DOC faces a much greater challenge. It must try to kill rats and stoats as well as possums, along with other pests such as cats."

Sorry I can not find the paper, but it was from Commissioner of Environement mainly about how to deal with bird and tree predators. It dealt with 1080 extensively. Our main enemies of birds are tree climbers, .. possums eat eggs, stoats just move in and eat anything alive ir dead flesh and so do rats. Within the article there was no mention of family cat who gets the odd black bird.
Gareth Morgan is completely mad, he is not dangerous any more and totally isolated with his money and his
moustache and hair lip

Lots of wealthy people who never have to work again take up social causes and in the case of the extremely rich not always but often there are hidden agendas. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the work of George Soros are but two of the more well-known global examples, albeit most people really do think their works are designed to benefit the recipients of their largesse because that's what the media says and in the latter's case, most people don't even know what he actually does fund, because the media doesn't tell people. But the point is it seems to be a trait of the global rich, to do this sort of thing, under the cover of "philanthropy."

However here in tiny little naive NZ, we find our tiny little junior George Soros local equivalent trying on the same thing but instead of being all subtle and understated about it like the big boys are, Gareth goes completely OTT from the get-go, immediately blurting out the main objective and then not resiling when it appears the populace isn't very mad keen on the idea of getting rid of their beloved living companions. I mean crikey, who woulda thunk. Apparently he doesn't even get the elementary fact that cats are wild animals, they enjoy hunting, that's what their genetic structure is, and you can't really do that indoors and remain a healthy, free wild animal, even if you spend your entire life indoors and you've known nothing else since birth, since it's in your genes. Apparently, Gareth doesn't even get that.

But he'll continue with this, I can tell. He won't give up, that's not Gareth. He didn't get where he is today, by giving up. I suggest he talks to Peter Jackson or Abramov or James Cameron. One of them could probably put him in touch with one of the big boys who could explain how to go about it in a way that achieves the objective yet doesn't make him look like a complete and utter plonker in the eyes of just about everyone in NZ apart from his immediate family. But it may be too late, for this campaign. They may counsel him it's just a bridge too far. They may say look, cut your losses, you can't win, it's too late to turn it around. Publicly apologise, pay for a giant indoor cattery, with a secret waterslide if you really want to torture them, but leave it at that and just move on. Try this plastic surgeon in Switzerland and start again.

The problem is that New Zealanders are feral. Case in point: go to any beach with a “no dogs” sign. And there’s bound to be at least one asshole with a dog, probably unleashed and running up to random people.

Isn't it disgraceful Tom. How dare they. A dog at the beach, loping around and just being a great big silly, as they often do, at the beach. Well I never.

I think the line being drawn by many on this that because Gareth has taken on an environmental issue his politics must Green is absolutely ridiculous.
I happen to agree with the general thrust of his argument on this ( maybe not the detail of it) but my political views are far from the general Green Politics ( most of which are just far left and little to do with the environment now).
People who have concerns about an environmental issue can come from all political persuasions.

So far this year she is one ahead of the number I have hit in the car, on the nearby country road where it is impossible to avoid those birds that burst out of the long grass at an unfortunate moment.
