Sea Shepherd claims
February 21st, 2013 at 9:00 am by David FarrarStuff reports:
Anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd claims two of its boats were deliberately rammed by a Japanese whaling ship in the Southern Ocean.
They probably wrote their statements weeks ago.
Sea Shepherd lie. Paul Watson is a pathological liar. This comes from no less a source than his former acolyte Pete Bethune.
I’m all for protesting against the so called scientific whaling which is a farcical exploitation of a loophole in international agreements. I support WWF and even Greenpeace campaigns in this area.
But Sea Shepherd are pathological liars who believe the ends justify the means and they have a long history of violence and aggression.

Care to give examples rather than just simply throwing blanket statements out there? Not saying you’re wrong, but this sort of post reminds me of the kind of post that The Standard makes about John Key.

I had this in mind as I watched last night’s TV One news – which seemingly only saw fit to quote the liar.

Wasn’t Sea Sheppard deliberately trying to block the whalers from refuelling?

Paul Watson was instrumental in welding large metal brackets to the sides of his ships – “can openers” he called them. He also said “there is nothing wrong with terrorism as long as you win” and “earthworms are far more valuable than people”.
He brags about ramming, scuttling and sinking fishing boats around the world, and he fills the bows of his ships with concrete so as to make them more effective weapons…
so two words come to mind – poetic justice.

If Paul Watson kicked a Japanese sailor in the scrotum he would complain that the sailor had thrust his scrotum aggresively at his boot.

I wouldn’t call Watson a pathological liar. If he indeed has been telling a few porkies, it would appear that there is a motive to them. Watson would no doubt believe that the ends do justify the means, which is of course a point open to debate. But I admire his commitment to a cause. It is clear the Japanese have no intention of ending their scientific whaling, which is clearly a scam. As they demonstrated during WW2, the Japanese are not ones to let common sense get in the way of their strange and obsessive code of honour.

It would be so much easier to justifiably demonize the Sea Sheppard group if it wasn’t for the Japanese being completely full of shit themselves.
Scientific whaling (Tui Ad), harvest only plentiful species; they were caught with Blue Whale on the menu back in Japan FFS and
it is illegal to DNA analyse whale meat in Japan etc etc etc.
Don’t get me wrong, Sea Sheppard go to far but the Japanese whalers (and govt) are to sea harvesting what Fiji is to democracy.

The Japs should send a war ship down there to protect their people.
Sea Shepherd are pirates and should be treated as such. Their supporters are all idiots.

So, Mr. Watson, a qualified mariner who has in the recent past, released (with uncontained glee) images of his ship ramming a japanese vessel going about its lawful business, has suddenly been ‘rammed’ by a Japanese whaling vessel – the mothership of the fleet in fact.
Diddums!!
Factory ships are invariably converted tankers or bulk carriers. They are large, they are ponderous, they are highly UN-maneuverable. For one of these vessels to ‘ram’ another ship would seem to indicate that the second vessel was extremely close-in, espcially during a state of refueling, when everything has to be done in straight lines to avoid hoses being torn apart and oil going into the sea – to say nothing of the inherent fire danger from heavy fuel oil.
And yet, this supposed qualified sea-going master, with his knowledge of such things and an awareness of the dangers, STILL got himself ‘rammed’ by a large ship, under refueling, and moving in a straight line?
Something stinks there – and it’s not the whales.
Mr. Watson of course is COMPLETELY innocent. (Tui moment me thinks).
(And haven’t TV1 been his so-very willing ‘ best friend forever???)

To protect their citizens illegally whaling in an international sanctuary to catch more whale meat that is stored beyond capacity that no one wants but must do it to save face

Therefore, I understand that you are TOTALLY in agreement with Mr. Watson’s actions, international maritime law concerning the peaceful operation of merchant vessels on the high seas and in international waters notwithstanding?

Aside from the totally unnecessary anatomical references, actually frankdb, the answer is no; I was merely taking your evident (i.e. loudly-shouted) disapproval of Kiwiblog
(as shown in your very-clearly made statement that ”KIWIBLOG SUPPORTS ILLEGAL JAPANESE WHALING IN INTERNATIONAL SANCTUARY’),
to its logical conclusion.
Logic theory states that, if you made that statement (which you did – loudly) , by logical inference, since you DON’T approve of what has been said on this thread, you have no other choice but to support Watson: this your own statement.
I was merely wishing to clarify the point.
I believe that I have. Thanks.

Then the whales can then sort out their own problems.

“the so called scientific whaling which is a farcical exploitation of a loophole in international agreements”
Well that’s the Greenpeace propaganda from years ago, yes.
The exploitation of loopholes in the convention has been by the anti-whalers who have sought to prevent the whaling organization from functioning as intended.
Just read the convention.
http://iwc.int/convention.htm
The International Court of Justice will apparently be having it’s say on Australia’s case against Japan’s activities some time later this year. The judgement should make for good reading, but one wonders how much coverage it will get in the Australasian media if it goes against them, given the massive cultural biases that exist thanks to years of brainwashing by commercial anti-whaling organizations…
If per chance Japan does lose, I expect they’d abide by the decision, although it would raise major questions about the future of the IWC. If the IWC is not for whaling after all, then there’s no reason for whaling nations to be members…
