Yes real progress. We get to see our elected representatives in a more "real" life situation and far removed from the theatre of The House. Might be very revealing. Lets hope our Regional and Territorial Councils take the hint too and webcast their meetings, (locally- narrowband) and do the same for their proceedings in committee with significant public interest.

"Maybe webcast scrutiny will encourage MPs to respect the select committee process and submitters more."

Perhaps, although I suspect that all it will do is mean that the likes of Winston and Dunne will turn up to select committees when they know they are going to be broadcast to grandstand and score cheap political points.

Although I do like the idea of the naked hatred of the left being exposed, imagine what the public really would think of the left if they got to see just how naturally nasty the likes of King, Dyson, my little Pony and Andrew Little are.

Clare Curran has tweeted:

    Have been pushing for this with @garethmp and @nikkikaye #opengovernment “@KiwiblogDPF: Select Committee webcasts
</blockquote>
Good to see cross party support for this.

Maybe webcast scrutiny will encourage MPs to respect the select committee process and submitters more. And parties, organiosations and lobby groups who organise mass submissions will also be more exposed.
