As I understand, it is the Mullahs who RUN Iran and they get the final say, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is just a figurehead for diplomacy reasons.

Other members of their government, logic would suggest, kindness too, would NOT support the ‘photoshop’ or ‘homo hanging’ etc etc.

The former leader of Iraq obstruced UN WMD inspections to pretend he had something to hide – to intimidate internal Shia and Kurdish opposition as well as Iran. The Americans called his bluff – lying that they feared he had WMD and invading because they knew he did not. Now the Iranians adopt his tactic of fraudulent bravado to pose as a regional strongman as their aspirations to regional leadership begin to implode. I suspect this time the Americans will simply allow the tide of regional events and the increasingly erratic responses of the regime to discredit it so that it collapses from within – much as the Soviet Union did back in the 80s/90′s.

Or if you wont do that – try get them to take up residence in your part of town.

Imadinnerjacket and the mullahs are also desperate.. when Iran was fighting Saddam back in the 1970s Iranian women were pumping out 6-7 babies per female, today just 1.5. He needs to strike very soon before his men are too old to fight and/or defend.. the nuclear option is critical to strike with impunity, say.. the adjacent Saudi oil fields before his own oil fields run out or become unworkable.

In 30 years his “young” men will be 60 and staring at retirement and a much smaller younger generation will have to support this bulge of people on incomes of just US7000.. and don’t forget Persians make up just 61% of the population.

Ima’ and the mullahs have to do something before the much more fertile Kurds, Iraqis and neighbouring tribesmen overrun Iran and Shiism.

The most credible analysis on the Florida vote appears at least to me to indicate that Bush carried the state on almost any reasonable scenario, and an vote rigging by Republicans (of which there is no good evidence) would be completely counterbalanced by the deliberately engineered exclusion of military voters by Democrats.

It’s a constant story, this “stolen election” issue, and yet every attempt to clean up votre records and to establish a clean electoral register is always opposed by the Democrats, and they also block any attempts to investigate vote rigging in key places like Chicago, where entire precincts deliver 100% votes for democrats. Oh, and when a clear case of voter intimidation is demonstrated, the justice department somehow doesn’t want to actually enforce the law, against people who were of course simply intimidating Republican’s, and hence acting quite legitimately, no ?

If we could show that all muslims were crazy, and people in those countries who aren’t muslims aren’t crazy, there’d be an argument for pointing to Islam as the problem. But if there are lots of muslims who aren’t crazy (there are) and there are people in those countries/regions who are crazy but aren’t muslims, then you’d have a hard time blaming Islam. I’d agree with DPF that Islam sometimes doesn’t help, but that’s a different argument.

I could just imagine what would happen in say NZ if the PM suggested we just photoshop an image of a plane into a picture and claim it is a stealth fighter.

There is a substantial portion of the iranian population who support this sort of idiocy – and theyre all muslims. Im sort of coming to the conclusion that in this country muslim equates to moron., or if one prefers moron equates with muslim.
