The Denver Post, on February 15th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice. It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month. Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years. In America.

Inspectors will issue violations when a cup is found to ‘clearly exceed’ 16 ounces ‘when measured in the inspector’s measuring cup,’ he added.

A despicable totalitarian (and “academic”) speaks:
“Associate Professor Nick Wilson, the study’s lead author, said while the research showed it was possible to have a low-salt diet by making the right choices, it would be easier to achieve if Government restricted the amount of salt in everyday products.

“It could do this by regulating down the maximum level of salt permitted in commercially produced foods, particularly in bread, processed meats and sauces,” he said.

“A tax on junk food would also help as such food is usually high in salt as well as sugar and saturated fat. The money from such a tax could then fund healthy school lunches and help pay for better health services for diseases caused by high salt – especially stroke and heart attacks.”

  8. Pete George (17,596) Says:

David Clark has received plenty of attention lately, including from DPF. Some rate him as a rising Labour star. Craccum are featuring him in a regular debate with Jamie-Lee Ross and asked him:

Do you support the proposed SkyCity convention centre?

Clark chose not to answer this but instead launched into a famiiar sermon against National, straight from the good book of Labour PR:

‘Pokies’ and ‘porkies’. Those two words pretty much sum up the Government’s Sky City convention centre deal.

This issue isn’t about whether a convention centre is a good idea or not. It’s about the actions of the Ministers involved, actions the Auditor-General’s investigations found ‘were not consistent with best practice’ and were neither transparent nor fair.

He went on reciting familiar Labour lines, and ended with:

The Government must call a halt to its negotiations with Sky City and start again with a fair and open tender process. That is what Kiwis expect and deserve.

This is superficial politicking that adds nothing of substance to the convention centre debate, and going back to square one in the process is ludicrous.

Clark has risen quickly up the Labour ladder. If he wants to live up to the star hype he needs to step up, and sound like he can think for himself.

Preaching pissy party pointscoring platitudes won’t earn reverence as an up and coming MP worth listening to. Rev. David Clark – Labour party preacher

    RF.

A FMJ round will punch a small neat hole in someone, that wounded person requires lots of care. The plan being not to kill the enemy but wound them as a wounded enemy sucks up lots more resources that a dead enemy.

A soft point (or ballistic tip or hollow point) round will be used for accurate shooting. The round needs to slow down a bit or it wont expand. In hunting if you shoot a deer very close up with a BT the projectile may shatter or punch straight thru whereas you really want the projectile to expend all of its energy within the animal and not exit the chest cavity.

Unless your using a projectile like a Barnes solid that is meant to expand and punch a hole thru for a “free flowing wound channel” :-) easy tracking to your deer.

UglyTruth – AFAIK NZ Poice use ammo that is illegal for wartime use. The Police objective is to impose serious trauma that the alleged offender cannot react eg shooting back. The alleged offender is in that position by choice. In war, soldiers are often not there by choice – they are there by compultion or strong patriotism, including enormous peer group pressure.

Seems stange that Homeland Security needs 1.6B rounds, but then parameters such as contract term, number of armed people, rounds required for practice, etc was not mentioned. NZ Police would probably require 10,000 – 100,000 rounds for each one used ‘in ernest’.

If there is one shining light in all this it’s this: When the financial markets finally hit the wall, the people who will be hurt the most will not be the poor or even middle class. It will be the people who are holding all the paper promises (the 1%)

So far, all the government-induced distortions of the markets have been engineered to help the 1% (at the cost of everyone else.) But that game can only go on for so long and when it finally breaks the rapid descent and evaporation of paper wealth is going to be breathtaking.

I am sure that he was badly constipated as neither of the two Tweedle’s could get a word in edgeways. His rant was most interesting – he has said and done sweet fa since he got booted out at the last election so here was his “joure de gloire” so we cannot forget who he is. I doubt whether any Chairman is going to control him. He will need a good enema to slow him down.

He says he is going to take Dr Elder’s down along with the Government at the Committee.

Unfortunately in listening to him, it is going to be all about Clayton. He will be rude and arrogant as expected. in the hope that anybody will care.

He should pause to recognise that Elder is a very an experienced operator, who has actually worked for his living, and is not going to let the “Clayton” man upset him.

Zoning creates artificial value capture at the cost of others access to the resource.
To say the cost of new infrastructure is prohibitive ignores the cost of expanding services in existing suburbs.
It is far more expensive to rip up and disrupt existing services to expand capacity.
I am staying in the zone targeted for urban renewal All that is happening is they are bulldozing 3 brm homes to build two Mc mansions. The working class can not afford to live in the city fringe ellerslie avondale and similar suburbs are just to valuable to build new low rent houses on.

    New longer hockey stick graph

“We already knew that on a global scale, Earth is warmer today than it was over much of the past 2,000 years,” said Shaun Marcott of Oregon State University, the paper’s lead author. “Now we know that it is warmer than most of the past 11,300 years.”

The planet’s gradual warming and cooling phases are largely caused by the Earth’s tilt as it orbits around the sun. During the period the OSU and Harvard University research team reconstructed, temperatures increased gradually until about 7,000 years ago, then began decreasing again. If not for human influence, Earth would be in a very cold period today. But soon after the industrial revolution happened, the planet began to warm.

It looks like ammo for the AR-15 rifle is very hard to come by in America at the moment, even at gun shows.

“You have any .22?,” I asked a dealer pricing boxes of ammunition at his table.  “Nope,” he answered.  “There’s none in here.”

He was right.  Nothing.  Not at any table.

I grabbed a few boxes of overpriced 9mm for the Glock and knew that was all I was taking home.

I get the feeling the run on “scary-looking assault weapons,” aka AR-15′s, aka semi-automatic rifles, has subsided, at least, for now.  There were plenty of dealers selling, but I didn’t see many buyers.

Why?   Well, for starters, there’s no ammo!  Without ammo, it’s useless.  The rifles have also increased significantly in price since the last time I visited the Expo Center in Fredericksburg, Va. back in December.

An hour before the doors opened, I stood in line with a vet and a young man in the Army.  We noticed the lines weren’t nearly as long as those seen in Richmond just a month earlier.  But, that was at 8:00am.

When I left at 10:45, there wasn’t an open parking spot, and the Wegman’s lot and surrounding strip malls looked suspiciously full.  There was still a line to get inside the show, but it was moving.

“This administration is doing the exact opposite of what it wants to accomplish,” the vet said to me.  “He’s the best gun salesman in the world,” I replied.

The younger man chimed in, mocking Sheriff Joe Biden’s lack of knowledge on the subject, and his constant gaffes on, well, almost everything.

I thanked them for their service before we parted ways.  “Good luck, I hope you find what you came for,” one of them said.

    Unfortunately, I didn’t.

When I got home an hour later I checked the usual online ammo dealers (as I do every time I sit down at my computer).  There was nothing.  No .22.  No 9mm.

This is how it’s been for weeks.  And I fear this is how it will be until the “gun-control” debate and attack on the 2nd Amendment subsides — if it ever does.

Until then, I’ll continue to buy a box here and there – that is, if DHS doesn’t buy it first.

Meanwhile the husband of Gabby Giffords (you remember her – the politician who was shot by a Leftist and which the media tried to pin on Sarah Palin) has just been caught buying an AR-15 rifle: the type Obama is trying to ban. And this after his anti-gun speeches.

Mark E. Kelly, gun-control proponent and husband to former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, recently purchased an AR-15 (an “assault weapon,” he called it)—which he now says he intended as an illustration of the need for more stringent gun laws.

Kelly reportedly bought the AR-15 and a 1911-style semi-automatic pistol at Diamondback Police Supply in Tucson, Arizona.

Various sources contacted Breitbart News once Kelly made the purchase, and after we began investigating the details surrounding the purchase, Kelly announced on his Facebook that he was not going to keep the AR-15, which he has yet to pick up from the store.

Yeh, only because he got busted.

Where have we heard that before? Ah yes, as mentioned in the piece, “Mike’s Nature Trick” was applied to a similar worthless effort several years ago, and on that occasion the author simply deleted the recent proxy data from the chart simply because it showed declining temperatures (remember, Griff says that’s okay because several internal whitewashes – sorry,”inquiries” – said so.)

Wall Street Exploring Ways To Profit From Global Warming

Investing in climate change used to mean putting money into efforts to stop global warming. Morgan Stanley (MS), Goldman Sachs (GS), and other firms took stakes in wind farms and tidal-energy projects, and set up carbon-trading desks. The appeal of cleantech has dimmed as efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions have faltered: Venture capital and private equity investments fell 34 percent last year, to $5.8 billion, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance.

Now some investors are taking another approach. Working under the assumption that climate change is inevitable, they’re investing in businesses that will profit as the planet gets hotter. (The World Bank says the earth could warm by 4C by the end of the century.) Their strategies include buying water treatment companies, brokering deals for Australian farmland, and backing a startup that has engineered a mosquito to fight dengue, a disease that’s spreading as the mercury climbs.

    The weatherman.

Once upon a time the weatherman was a pleasant chap who would appear on telly around 7 pm and make predictions about the weather in the days ahead. These announcements were watched with great interest by the people. Of course he was always wildly inaccurate and only the gullible ever took the predictions seriously. It was good harmless fun, though some would take it literally and cancel events only to find clear sunny days, while others looking forward to sun would find the occasion swept away by rain and winds.

The malcontents and socialists noticed all the attention the humble weatherman was getting and became envious. They devised a plan. They asked some unemployed weathermen if they would like lots of money and have their guess work called “science”. They said that together they could rule the world. Most weathermen laughed at this, but some were tempted. At first they did not feel comfortable telling lies, but the socialists and malcontents explained that is was for the good and would result in a fairer more just world. So the weathermen agreed and broadcast that unless the socialist and malcontents got their way, the world would end.

    To be continued…

Study reveals men prefer big breasts SHOCKER!

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/life/8414001/Do-sexist-men-like-big-breasts

The study found that a majority of men (32.7 per cent) found medium-sized breasts to be the most attractive, followed by large (24.4 per cent) and very large (19.1 per cent) breasts. Younger men were also more likely to rate busty women as more attractive.

Yes, bet that shocked a lot of you. But wait, there’s more. Supposedly, the more sexist a man is, the more likely he’ll be drawn to women with bigger breasts. And there’s different types of sexist. Turns out, if you’re a ‘nice guy’, you’re really a sexist bastard in disguise …

More significantly, ‘benevolent sexism’ was found to be the strongest predictor for breast size rating – overshadowing factors like sexual objectification and hostility towards women. Study co-author Viren Swami explains: “Benevolently sexist men may perceive larger breasts as ”appropriate” for feminine women; in other words … a feminine and submissive woman is likely to be someone with large breasts.”

Ironically, this means it’s the ‘nice guys’ who pride themselves in holding open car doors, offer to pay for dinners and believe ladies are to be ‘admired’ and ‘put on a pedestal’ who are most likely to buy into traditional beauty ideals – like having a ‘feminine figure’ in this case.

    Discuss. :)

A piece about Mark Lynas, who finally grew up and realised what a bunch of anti-science thugs the Greens are:

He’d been used to seeing the Green movement as the brave, scrappy underdogs. But the more he looked, the more little David began to resemble Goliath. “Just take the numbers,” he says. “Greenpeace, the whole international group, is a $150m outfit [in fact, figures provided by Greenpeace show global income in 2011 as $313.4m]. Bigger than the World Trade Organisation, and much more influential in terms of determining how people think.” For Lynas, the modern Green movement is one of undeniable force….Lynas has been very critical of Greenpeace’s policy towards a GM crop that’s become totemic among campaigners. Golden rice is a crop that’s been modified, by the insertion of the genes for the chemical beta-carotene, in an attempt to make it provide more vitamin A. “Vitamin-A deficiency is one of the leading causes of death in southeast Asia,” says Lynas. “It’s led to blindness and the death of about a quarter of a million people a year.” Yet campaigners, including Greenpeace, lobbied against it.

Greenpeace insists golden rice is a “waste of money” and an “ineffective tool… [that] is also environmentally irresponsible, poses risks to human health and compromises food security”. For Lynas, its stance is “just superstition. There are tens of thousands of kids who are dead who wouldn’t be dead otherwise. I don’t see how you could put this any other way. Imagine if Monsanto had been culpable in the deaths of tens of thousands of children! It would be all over the Guardian.

Councillor Richard Northey – may I respectfully suggest that you reconsider your above-mentioned decision?

Gary Osbourne has arguably SIGNIFICANTLY new subject matter to raise on this issue – unless of course you think that a request to the Minister of Local Government for an inquiry into the authorisation by the CEO of Auckland Council, blocking of correspondence between concerned citizens is effectively a ‘non-event’?

Perhaps you could remind me of the last time the Minister of Local Government was formally requested to inquire into a matter concerning Auckland Council?

Please be reminded that this is the PERFORMANCE AND ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE of Auckland Council?

This is a SERIOUS matter of PERFORMANCE and ACCOUNTABILITY – is it not?

I look forward to your confirmation that both Gary Osbourne and myself ,( I have yet to have my request for speaking rights confirmed), have been granted 5 minutes each speaking time, as requested at Public Forum, Performance and Accountability Committee, Auckland Council, Wednesday 13 March 2013, 10 am at the Auckland Town Hall.

(NaturalNews) When you hear some pundit or historian compare the loss of democratic republican rule currently taking place in the United States with how it happened in ancient Rome, you may be tempted to shrug it off as hyperbole or over dramatization.

When you hear a U.S. Supreme Court Justice and other top government officials use the comparison, it should alarm you tremendously because they are, in essence, firing a warning shot.

In a recent Q & A with students of the University of New Hampshire, former Justice David Souter made the comparison above, along with several other observations that he says all add up to a potential loss of democratic government – and freedom – for Americans at some point in the future.

10 March 2013 Breaking News Obamacare approves Live Birth Abortion Induced Labor Abortions – end times news update 3-10-13

President barack obama State of the union address February 15th 2013 Breaking News Obama approves Live Birth Abortion Induced Labor Abortions for hours babies left to die in medical clinics and hospitals.
Did you know that there is a market for “high quality” aborted fetal parts? It has now come out that abortion clinics sell “high quality” baby parts from abortions to universities and medical researchers. The following is just one shocking quote from an absolutely stunning report about this practice: “We would sell the tissue to private contractors. They in turn would sell to other universities and researchers. There was a high demand every week to buy such fetal tissues. It was shipped by UPS, FedEx, Airborne and sometimes by special couriers.”
How strong can the United States of America be when it has aborted more than 54 million children since 1973? Unless something changes soon, The USA will soon have killed 60 million children. Think about that number. That would be ten times the number of Jews that the Nazis killed during the Holocaust. We know the judgment God brought on Germany. Do we really expect God to do less to us unless we repent? The President spoke of being focused on “saving the world’s children from preventable deaths.” Isn’t abortion preventable? How much longer will Washington ignore this genocide and do nothing to stop it? I am disappointed the President isn’t committed to creating a culture of life and to helping us end this evil scourge of infanticade. I love this country, which is why I must speak out on this great moral issue of our time. I fear for our future if we don’t wake up and reverse course.

    http://www.climatecentral.org/news/storm-that-would-not-end-takes-its-toll-on-New-England-with-coastal-flooding-15711

A long duration nor’easter continues to pound New England with high winds, coastal flooding, and heavy snow. As expected, the Friday morning high tide brought major coastal flooding to the Massachusetts shoreline, from Cape Ann to Nantucket. High seas driven by four straight days of gale force winds eroded beaches and damaged homes. More coastal flooding is anticipated during Friday evening’s high tide, but it may be less severe than what has occurred so far, due to lower astronomical high tides at that time.

I hope those on the east coast sea front are reevaluating their options.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This summer the North Carolina Senate passed a bill banning researchers from reporting predicted increases in the rate of sea level rise. But the ocean, unbound by legislation, is rising anyway — and in North Carolina this rise is accelerating,
On the coast of North Carolina and at other so-called “hotspots” along the U.S. East Coast, sea levels are rising about three times more quickly on average than they are globally, researchers reported during a session devoted to sea level rise.

That’s the fastest rise in the world.

A recent research report by Stefan Rahmstorf, Grant Foster and Anny Cazenave using satellite altimetry found that global sea level is rising 60% faster than IPCC forecasts. However, detailed analysis of satellite altimetry maps shows hotspots in the western Pacific, southern Indian ocean and western North Atlantic where sea level rise is taking place at a much higher than average rate. The coastline from Cape Hatteras to Cape Cod, where this fall’s intense storm damage occurred is a sea level rise hot spot. Sea level rise made the damage significantly worse.

IPCC climate models do not capture Arctic sea ice drift acceleration: Consequences in terms of projected sea ice thinning and decline

A new paper in the Journal of Geophysical Research offers fresh insights into Arctic sea ice. Researchers compared observations of Arctic sea ice with projections from IPCC models. Arctic sea ice thins and drifts faster in the summer months, accelerating sea ice decline. The paper finds that IPCC climate models underestimate observed Arctic sea ice loss, particularly thinning trends. This means that the IPCC projections for ice-free Arctic summer seas by 2100 are likely to be too conservative.

Back to bleating on about the sea ice around the continent of Antarctica are we

Estimates of recent changes in Antarctic land ice (see above) range from losing 100 gigatons/year to over 300 gigatons/year. Because 360 gigatons/year represents an annual sea level rise of 1 mm/year, recent estimates indicate a contribution of between 0.27 mm/year and 0.83 mm/year coming from Antarctica. There is of course uncertainty in the estimations methods but multiple different types of measurement techniques (explained here) all show the same thing, Antarctica is losing land ice as a whole, and these losses are accelerating quickly.

The ice surrounding Antarctica reached its annual winter maximum—and set a record for a new high. Sea ice extended over 19.44 million square kilometers (7.51 million square miles) in 2012, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). The previous record of 19.39 million kilometers (7.49 million square miles) was set in 2006.

Perhaps most strangely, some have cited the purchase of hollow-point ammunition as evidence of the federal government’s evil motives. Hollow-points are the defensive ammunition of choice for federal, state and local law enforcement officers across the country, just as they are for private citizens. These attacks are eerily similar to statements made by gun prohibitionists, who spent the much of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s complaining about “dum dum” bullets. (In fact, the Violence Policy Center’s website still exhibits a publication lamenting that federal ammunition law “has no effect on today’s generation of high-tech hollow-point ammunition.”) The attacks also ignore the fact that federal agents, unlike average taxpayers on more limited budgets, normally train and qualify with their duty ammunition.

Penny Bright MY REPLY TO COUNCILLOR CATHY CASEY: 13 March 2013.

    Thank you Cathy.

I am not particularly looking forward to going back to the ‘bad old Auckland City Council days’?

After 22 arrests, it ended up 21 -1 to me, and a number of District Court judgments which ‘fine-tuned’ the LGOIMA process, to defend the basic democratic rights of citizens.

If Councillor Richard Northey were to exercise his ‘judgment’ based upon the LAW and previous legal judgments, in my opinion, we wouldn’t be having this problem.

I am getting SO sick of some elected representatives and senior Council staff – just MAKING IT UP – when it comes to the lawful rights of citizens?

Looking forward to confirmation of a number of Councillors, queuing up to second your motion.

Even better, Councillor Richard Northey, exercising rather more sound judgment based upon the LAW, and reconsidering his (unlawful, in my opinion) denial of 5 minutes speaking rights at the Public Forum of Auckland Council Performance and Accountability Committee.

    Kind regards,
