Kea – obviously kids are at risk of gay rape.

And they are far more at risk of hetero rape, and same sex violent rape (where the rapist is not gay, just inflicting violence and extreme indignity).

I haven’t seen claims or statistics that our prison population is significantly disproportionately gay.

Pete, until you provide statistics to justify your claim that “New Zealand has a rape culture”, I don’t see why I should provide my statistics.

You continue to claim that there is a rape culture, but you STILL have not justified this in any way. You have quoted the various figures that show that rape happens – which I think most people know – but this does NOT necessarily mean there is a culture which encourages it in New Zealand.

You’ve now added to this claim with another one; namely, that we have an “entrenched violence culture”. Again, where is your proof?

Some weeks ago you stated that I don’t know a thing about you, and who you are. Which is true to a degree – obviously, you choose to reveal quite a lot about yourself via your comments on blogs, the profile that you provided when you stood for election, and other write-ups about you. But this works both ways, Pete – you know very little about me, and even less about the approximately 4,460,000 people that you have never met in any way. So how you can claim that these people are all part of a “rape culture” when you know nothing about them is beyond me.

Manolo, guys like PG do not know how to relate to women as fellow humans. He holds them to different standards than he does men. He does not hold them accountable and will always side with a women, regardless of how flawed her behaviour or thinking is.

This is a learned behaviour that he has developed to draw the attention of females, as he lacks the social skills to engage them in any other way. Women are happy to have doormats around, but seldom take them seriously or regard them as romantic prospects, unless they are lacking in confidence and feeling fragile.

I happily come across as a misogynistic pig, yet women seek my advice and company, as I am happy to accept them as fellow humans and not place them on some artificial moral high ground they have not earned. In other words they can be themselves and feel accepted. PG does not get that.

Supporting such fear-mongering is the fallacious concept of “optimum environment” where we do not dare discuss children in the real world, but rather we enter the world of make believe where one can conjure up an “optimal environment” by sheer imagination alone.

If one’s mum and dad pollutes their brain with idiotic ideas like healing with prayer or creationism, at least they have their mum and dad. If one’s mum and dad fails to provide adequate care and nutrition.. well at least they aren’t gay. If one’s mum and dad doesn’t vaccinate the child may suffer horrible consequences… but at least their parents aren’t gay. If one’s mum and dad lets them roam the streets at night they may be at risk from all sorts of harm… but at least their parents aren’t gay.

All the high-minded rhetoric cannot obfuscate the fact that religious nutbars, the likes of which populate this forum, have little interest in the real issues that face children. All they care about is dicks in bums because it grosses them out (presumably) and God forbids it.

graham, I provided statistics some statistics – because you kept asking for them. So it’s hypocritical to now avoid backing up your statement.

I haven’t said that anyone should “just accept my proclamation”. I was provoking discussion, and seems to have worked.

And I don’t believe I’ve said “there is a rape culture without question”. Of course there are many questions to ask about this, that’s why I raised the issue.

Go over to Kiwiblog and challenge them. Challenge them wherever you see it.

You’re unlikely to change the minds of the loudest and most aggressive, but there are many more readers (most don’t want to put themselves in front of the levels of abuse that can occur) and if some of the silent readers understand the problems better then you are making progress.

If you remain civil in the face of (sometimes extreme) abuse and provocation the frustrated abusers are more likely to discredit themselves than you.

We’re dealing with attitudes that have been entrenched for millenia, don’t expect instant reform, but be determined to achieve improvement.

Finally, if you want some statistics, here they are. Using your figures from the police, 3448 sexual crimes were recorded in 2011-2012. That means that approximately 99.9% of the entire population DIDN’T commit a sexual crime during this period.

Hence, the obvious conclusion is that New Zealand’s culture is heavily weighted AGAINST sexual crime. There is no rape culture.

Back to more important things in life – hope again in the test. A key wicket right on tea. England have defended very well today, and a bit of luck’s gone their way. If they hang on for another two hours they will deserve a draw, but the Black Caps will have only have themselves to blame if they don’t finish England off.

Apart from the wobbles at the start of our second innings the Black Caps have dominated this game. It’s there for the taking, along with the series.

Talk about stealthy and an obvious agenda, when they realised their poll this morning (which they expected would return a landslide result in favour of Homosexual marriage) became a significant statement against the bill they simply panicked and hid the story. How sad the rainbow left have become. However this issue pales in comparison to the rort that is the Maori Parties attempt to enshrine the revisionist’s version of the Treaty in our constitution as over-riding supreme law! Now that is an issue we all must fight for!!

Andrei, quite right. The lead story about gay marriage support in New Zealand was quickly dropped on their website once the poll showed that support for gay marriage was dropping. So they quickly switched the headline to support for gay marriage is rising in the United States. The media are not neutral reporters, they are simply cheerleaders for gay marriage.

Gay marriage – it’s going through. Is it to infuriate a large number of voters who will inevitably chuck it over to Colin Craig, bingo, three terms for National?

Personally I don’t mind if gay couples even the notoriously promiscuous (yes they are) gay men get ‘married’ if they want to play dress-ups. That’s all OK with me

The thing that I worry about is what’s going to happen to the kids who will be inevitably be adopted as a matter of course further down the track and sent to school with haloumi and brown rice salad. Are they are going to get teased mercilessly at school, especially these days where kids know from the age of three they can’t be smacked, caned or disciplined at all?

Possible outcome #1 – this makes them stronger, kids’ inherent nature has been successfully changed by the teachers, they turn out to be awesome at rugby / netball and score with the opposite sex etc

Possible outcome #2 – misfits, depression, suicide. Etc. If we get some stats back in 20 years that says kids of gay couples are much more likely to commit suicide and I can get out of my home for the demented, I’m going to hunt Louisa Wall down and yell at her.

Ever hear of the British band Gay Dad? They were quite big for a while, and I don’t think the name was celebratory.

Very interesting that as the news leaks out that gay marriage = gay adoption, the crowd begins turning. And the commies and the useful idiots desperately thrash around looking for a new argument because all of a sudden their “it’s discwimination” meme doesn’t hold water anymore. After all, it’s hard to compete for the sympathy vote when it comes up against orphans, even gays have trouble doing that, apparently. No matter how confused are the well-meaning useful idiots they’ve managed to get on their side thus far who’ve bought their meme, because they didn’t talk about the orphans.

Oh dear.

Their evil plan is in tatters.

Reid, the pro gay adoption crowd have just lost all credibility with me. Their concern for human “rights” clearly does not extend to hetrosexuals, whom they are perfectly happy to have discriminated against on the basis of their straight sexuality. So I have to say; Fuck Em !

As a result I am not so sure about my former support for gay marriage. Though I wish no ill will against gays generally.

This despite the fact one of my siblings is gay. If anyone wants to accuse me of gay bashing, they can go ahead. My opposition has never had anything to do with that. It’s a social engineering campaign from start to finish and that’s why I’ve objected to it since day one. If I for a second thought it was about human rights, I would have been a full on supported. But it never was about that, ever.

All money-making enterprises are supposed to be equally productive and socially useful, for no other reason than they make somebody rich.

On the issue of Herald polls, the on-line polls shows how opponents are more likely to be active in their opposition – since the legislation is a forgone conclusion.

The Herald Digipoll sample poll, by comparison, still shows more supporting the legislation than opposing.

Given the demographics, where those over 65 are the major opponents, it’s a no brainer that the legislation will pass and gain in support across time. Those born after 1986 will wonder what the fuss was about.

It’s a bit like the numbers declaring their Christian religion status in Census is also declining as fewer people were infant baptised over the last 50 years. So as the generation before the baby boomers dies off and then the baby boomers, numbers will decline further.

Ken has a lifestyle block North of Auckland. He is in need of a new milk cow and hears about a nice one for sale near Hamilton.

He drives down to the Waikato, finds the farm and looks at the cow. Ken reaches under to see if she gives milk. When he grabs
the teat and pulls…the cow farts.

He is very surprised.

He looks at the farmer who is selling the cow, then reaches
under the cow to try again.

He grabs another teat, pulls, and the cow farts again.

Milk does come out however, so after some discussion with
the cow’s current owner, Ken decides to buy the cow and takes
it home.

When he gets back over the bridge, he calls over to his neighbor,
Mick, and says, “Hey, Mick, come and look at this new cow I just bought. Pull her teat, and see what happens.”

Mick reaches under, pulls the teat – and the cow farts.

Mick looks at Ken and says, “You bought this cow in the Waikato, didn’t yah?”

Ken is very surprised since he hadn’t told Mick about his trip.

Ken replies, “Yeah, thats right. But how did you know?”

Mick says, “My wife is from Hamilton.”

PEB. No issues at all.

Just cannot figure out how otherwise sane and reasonable men can get excited about a game that is designed to be a lefty dream i.e. there is no winner, we are all equal at the end.
Every other game I can think off has a winner or a loser (second place if you want to be PC),
Not 5 day Cricket. Oh no you can bust your arse, play really well, by all the counts but time, you can kick the shit from the other team and still lose. And a Draw is a lose.
NZ was good at drawing matches under Rutherford and Fleming. Never made NZ a winner.

Its all a bit like MMP isn’t it.

and I recall neither you nor KS like MMP.

Property tycoon Sir Bob Jones has demanded the removal of poker machines and the TAB from a pub in one of his Lambton Quay properties because he doesn’t like the tone they set.

The removal of the pokies and the TAB were among the conditions he insisted on when the Trinity Group’s lease on the Occidental bar came up for renewal.

Sir Bob said he was particular about the sorts of tenants he wanted in the ground floor of his commercial buildings and, as far as he was concerned, “pokies are just a tax on the stupid, which tends to be a tax on the poor”.

Further evidence that the free market and social norms work better than government regulation.

I hate pokies, but defend the right to have them. When a business installs pokies they are only responding to the market. If people do not want them, then they will not be installed. The business owners, such as Bob, can choose to remove the dreadful things anytime they want.

No government required. Problem fixed.
