62% believe that all cats should be neutered or spayed.
57% think that cats should be banned from areas near wildlife reserves, forests and national parks
53% believe that all cats should be registered and microchipped

Based on those figures, we should push ahead for reforming rules around cat ownership.

Anyone that suggests otherwise is not only enabling nutters, they are resigning a great number of cats to a miserable existence that no animal should be forced to endure, which is exactly what the SPCA (which will not ever get a cent from me again) is doing.

The time to register/microchip cats and enable council animal control to eliminate strays and ferals has come.

And as for you guys talking about your cats- Shunda will be along soon as to tell you that owning pets is a “Mental Illness” and that he wants to kill your beloved ‘Mr Frisky’ ..

My family has a dog, a cat, and a rabbit.

We manage to enjoy these creatures for what they are: tame animals that share our home/yard with us.

However,

I don’t talk to them like they are people, I don’t pretend they aren’t animals, I don’t use them to compensate for meaningful human relationships, I don’t pretend that their animal instincts have been replaced by a deluded concept of animal nobility just because they are ‘my’ pets.

But you just keep on truckin longknives, I am sure your horse will give you the answers you seek very soon, perhaps your dog will give you some good financial advice and assist with your views on politics.

i had a good reply to my assertion that the predators in NZ are Stoats, Rats and Opossums.
The reply was that in suburban areas the birds are taken out by cats . I am not so sure.
My neighbours cats are absolute poofs, can not do anything without a feed from a tin.

I wonder what %age of cat owners get their cats de-sexed for their cat’s own benefit? I reckon it could be more than 62%.

Cat sex is basically rape, and often the little girls get pregnant at an age where they will almost certainly die birthing their kittens.

Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure 100% of cat owners I know have de-sexed all their cats!

I consider bells cruel. Any cat that comes around my place wearing a bell, leaves without one. Same for non elasticated collars.

My cat [Effin; fun to yell come here Effin Cat] can slip a collar in a nano second unless it was fastened so tight she wouldn’t be able to breath! I agree with registering, de-sexing, chipping and restricting cat ownership adjacent to nature reserves but that’s as far as I would go.

Cats can and do compensate for bells. Also, cats with collars are in danger of getting strangled. Gareth fans may like that, but cat owners don’t.
