Purchased a Galaxy S4 yesterday, and was very disappointed. Strongly advise against buying one.

The deal-breaker for me was when I attempted to connect to my PC. First problem, when I connected the phone to my PC it didn’t detect, and I had to spend half an hour googling for the correct drivers. Then to add insult to injury, the proprietary Samsung drivers only allow extremely restricted access. You can view two (pseudo)folders with a very limited list of actions. Transfering files is difficult because these folders aren’t actually visible on the phone itself.

If I wanted this kind of bullshit arbitrary restriction I would have brought an Apple device thanks. This weekend I will be doing a complete re-install of the OS and getting rid of all the useless software crap Samsung have burdened their impressive hardware with. All the while wishing I had gone with the HTC One (or some other device) in the first place.

Nathan Guy blaming his officials over the meat fiasco in China is like a bad workman blaming his tools. Clearly there was a problem and NZ is partly to blame. He went on about not being kept informed but that is not convincing. He failed to act decisively when he should have and was essentially asleep at the wheel.

I havent tried connecting it to my pc yet though. im sure you can hack the fucker to do what you want 😀

this google card thing is kinda cool. google a brothel on your pc and it brings up a card on your phone that tells you how long it will take to get there, traffic conditions and directions!!! im not sure if it works with anything but brothels though!?

The comments by Nathan Guy may or may not be justified.
The concept of Ministerial responsibility is buried deep in history. But then, Ministers could hire and fire if one of their minions fucked up. Try that in 2013 !

The reality is that someone in the new Ministry was either negligent or incompetent, or both. Who ever, either singly or jointly, is responsible, they deserve to be told (actually, in spades) that they have fucked up, if indeed that is the case.

As for radio green-labour – what else should we expect. The sooner that dung pile is consigned to the heap the better.

I received mine yesterday and am very happy with it. I connected mine to my PC and opened a file manager to access all folders on the phone and on the SD card I added to it. No issues. However, I am running Linux with the MTP software installed.

What are you going to replace the Samsung/Android OS with?

Galaxy S4 – Just plugged it into my pc for the first time. file manager popped up. i can browse everything..

You might have to select on the phone what type of usb connection you want. eg mount as hard drive or charge only

@Thrash Cardiom – I’m going to stick with Jelly Bean, but rooted and with a much cleaner install. I’ll be getting rid of most of the 7GB of apps Samsung sell the device with.

@OneTrack – My previous smartphone (a Galaxy I, which was also brand new the first time I connected it to my PC) connected straight away using standard Windows drivers. To the PC it looked just like a USB memory stick. Samsung could have easily done the same thing with the S4, but instead decided to write new drivers which give less functionality. So yes, that is their fault.

Dear Mayor Len Brown and ALL Auckland Councillors,

I have been trying to ascertain exactly how, when, and who decided that the Department of Statistics ‘medium’ population growth projection for the Auckland (Spatial) Plan, should ‘transmogrify’ into the ‘high’ population growth projection.

Having trawled through the minutes of the former Auckland Future Vision Committee meetings, prior to the launching of the Auckland (Spatial) Plan, I have discovered that many, if not most of the Council discussions were under ‘Confidential’.

In the interests of ‘open, transparent and democratically-accountable’ local government, I formally request that the ‘books’ (minutes) are now opened, and all the ‘Confidential’ minutes are now made public, so concerned citizens and ratepayers can follow how the decision to rely on the Department of Statistics ‘high’ population growth projection was arrived at.

Given that it was resolved at the Auckland Council Governing Body meeting on Thursday 23 May 2013, NOT to extend the date for ‘feedback’ on the Draft Auckland Unitary Plan for 15 working days, can you please ensure that these above-mentioned ‘Confidential’ minutes are made public by 5pm Friday 24 May 2013, and the public are so advised, by way of a Press Release, (and given the exact Auckland Council website links) in order to assist with the public ‘feedback’ process.

Please be reminded that the two key Auckland ‘infrastructure’ providers – both Auckland Transport and Watercare Services – have relied upon the Department of Statistics ‘medium’ population growth projections for their Auckland regional ‘asset planning’.

This, in my considered opinion, is arguably a rather significant and serious planning ‘misalignment’ for Auckland transport and water infrastructure, and Auckland projected population growth?

How did this come about?

There has just been a large earthquake in northern California (near Yosemite) where my kids live (in Chico). a 5.7. Not sure if it is related to the massive bridge collapse on the border of Canada and US sending cars and people plummeting into the river below.

My question is how much backoffice work is required to get to lower levels.

Seems the latest British terrorists are 2nd generation (at least) muslim imports who have
become radicalised.

We now have over 40,000 muslim imports here in New Zealand. (up from virtually none 40 years ago.)
Now over 1% of our total population.

Why would we continue to import more of them ?
What is the benefit to NZ ?

i have noted other correspondents arguing that NZ will not suffer the problems that all other western
societies have with muslim immigrants because we, ’embrace,’ and, ‘celebrate’ them more than other countries do.
This is P.C. bullshit of course.
We already know for sure that they will never integrate as other immigrants do.
It will end in tears here as well.

I wonder if the S.I.S. for e.g. have the nouce to infiltrate the odd agent into islamic study groups at NZ
mosques to see what, if any, radicalisation is being taught here already. i doubt it.

Can anyone explain what benefits will accrue to New Zealand from importing more and more muslims ?

Govt’s legal aid system shake-up unlawful – Court of Appeal

The Government’s shake-up of the legal aid system, aimed at saving millions of dollars each year, is unlawful, the Court of Appeal has found.

In response to the soaring cost of legal aid services, the Government introduced the Legal Services Act 2011, which gave the Secretary for Justice overall responsibility for administering legal aid, and the Legal Services Commissioner responsibility for granting it.

Under the Act, a new fixed fees programme for criminal legal aid was established in March last year, which standardised the cost of all cases, regardless of how much time they involved. It still gave lawyers the ability to seek more money for complex cases.

This meant legal aid lawyers were being paid about 10 per cent less on average, prompting the Criminal Bar Association (CBA) to try to get the legislation overturned.

After losing its case in the High Court, the CBA took its case to the Court of Appeal.

The court rejected other CBA arguments, holding that cutting the cost of legal services was a lawful purpose of the Act.

So they spent taxpayers money to protect thier own self interest.
Hopefully the Govt. will kick this to touch or better still remove legal aid.

You pay $4.50 for a fast food chain pizza. There’s a maggot on it.

If you’re a bottomfeeder who pays a paltry sum for a meal…. you run the risk of getting what you pay for. You pay a low price, you get low quality. I’m sure you all agree.

We just don’t live in a world where everything is always going to be done properly to the letter for $4.50 per pizza.

Something’s got to give…. and in this case… a maggot got through.

It’s partially socio-economic. The higher the income, for whatever reason, the less likely a person is to choose a budget option. They hopefully then avoid some of this carry on. You’re not likely to get a maggot on your plate at an expensive restaurant. (Unless you like that kind of thing and order it.)

I’ve had cheap Dominoes pizzas before losing weight. Maggot or not… they taste like $5. They’re just ok for that price. With all the overheads and costs, I still don’t know how they make money.
