Agree with you on principal but disagree that it was a one sided bungled investigation based on tunnel vision. The investigation was very thorough and Lundy was not arrested for about a year until the case was built. This is not comparable to a Bain, Watson or Thomas case which had such a poor incompetent investigation. I think Lundy probably did it but the case is not that strong and probably not BRD IMO.

That’s in Aus.

Mostly I dig being a man. It’s awesome. And being a middle class white man? Holy crap. I don’t need to buy a lottery ticket because I won all the things just by turning up. But sometimes … I dunno. Sometimes I am ashamed to have a dick, and I’m not talking about that time I woke up in a crowded train carriage with a gigantic travel stiffy.

This last week, it’s been a shameful dick week.

I mean, what is it with you losers? Do you genuinely hate women? Or are you just too stupid to live and breed? I mean that literally. The gene pool would be better without you. Yes, Sattler, I’m looking at you.

And your mate, Akerman. And that restaurant owner with the sub-moronic sense of humour.

And the misogynist fools the Chief of the Army is talking to here. And that slobbering waste of human skin married to Nigella Lawson. And seemingly 95 per cent of the communters on Youtube. And the army of dickless wonders stinking up Xbox Live.

And the celebrated rapists of rugby league. And that soccer coach with the delightful Dark Ages twist on marital relations. And and and …

Well, you get my point.

Or you don’t, because you are a misogynist dickless wonder who thinks the last week is all just a feminazi PC plot, or even worse just a bit of fun, or just what everyone is saying anyway. That’d be you, Piers, that last one. At least Sattler had the nads and the lack of sense to front Gillard personally and destroy himself in an explosion of shameful stupidity. Your smarmy, weasel words on the ABC’s Insiders, basically gargling and spitting up Sattler’s word vomit all over again don’t even get the grudging Jackass points that his suicidal performance demanded.

It’s also full of calmer, gentler, more intelligent and wiser men who know better than these fools and who are perfectly capable of standing them down. Men who want better for women because so many of the people they care most about in the world are women.

Where are these blokes when a man puts his hands around a woman’s neck and starts to squeeze? Where are they when some idiot demeans and disrespects a prime minister, not because of what she’s done, but because of what she is? Where are you guys? Because if you just stepped up and said no at the very moment that it’s happening, not later, but right then and there, some of this wretched dickishness might finally die out.

Obviously not “all of you” or us are to blame. And I don’t think its as bad in New Zealand – but it can be awful here too.

But if more of us speak up and challenge male crap more often then some of the crappy males amongst us might get the message that it’s not normal male behaviour, and it’s not good male behaviour.

And it’s a filthy look for all of us when most of us don’t deserve it – as long as we’re prepared to do something to stop it.

It was a disgusting crime resulting in terrible injuries, I am surprised at the sentence, which is why I would like to see the judges statements.

Perhaps this will assist you Dennis. According to law, rape only occurs when the penis is inserted, however, sexual violation, which carries the same penalty of mx.20 years may also apply. And dentists from my experience aren’t dumb, in fact my one talks so damn much I wish he was! 🙂

Dennis, I generally like most of your comments, but that bit that I quote above is either hyperbole or else shows a real lack of understanding about the work of defence lawyers in jury trials.

Well, you do appear to. Any person with an understanding of criminal law knows that the first Bain trial was a miscarriage of justice. It may or may not have come to the right conclusion, but the process itself was very flawed. Moreover, a lot of us at the defence bar have real issues with the way that Mr Guest conducted the defence. His comments of a year or two ago were appalling, regardless of whether they were right or wrong, but that is separate from what many of us consider to be his poor performance at the first trial.

Whether the second trial got the correct verdict is neither here nor there (and, as always, is not something that concerns me), but I can say that it was much better run than the first one.

World Health Organization defined it in 2002 as “physically forced or otherwise coerced penetration – even if slight – of the vulva or anus, using a penis, other body parts or an object”.

In 2012, the FBI changed their definition from “The carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will.” to “The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person,

kowtow, Iran has not attacked anyone for hundreds of years. The last war they had was with Sadam, who used chemical weapons. Saddam was supported by the USA in his attack on Iran. The US is currently raging war all over the Middle East, right next door in Afghanistan and in Africa. The US and Israel have threatened to attack numerous times. The Arab states are also hostile to them.

There is no country that has more justification and reason to possess nukes.

The US wants a pipeline to the Sea via Syria for northern Iraq/Kurdish are oil.

Now, why is Saudi Arabia opposed to a Shia axis with control of pipelines across Iraq into Syria and the Mediterranean Sea …?

Obama is not determining the US position, he is merely agent for the US/western interest here.

manolo, I note the personal hostility when I expressed support for the PM’s position – that while loan to value ratios were a good idea they should not be applied on first home buyers (or if they were, not to the same extent).

I indicted a preference for 10-16.5% rate on first home buyers and double that rate (20-33%) for those investing in second or third or fourth properties.

Anything to declare about leveraging existing assets to speculate on property and playing your part in creating a housing bubble?

You are attempting to justify attacking Iran based entirely on speculation. The fact is they have attacked no one. The US has attacked numerous countries and the only nuclear armed state in the region is Israel. They are simply facts and require no speculation. None of what I said does require speculation. (Facts are like that)

Do I want Iran to have nukes ? No. Am I anti the US or Israel ? No. But that does not mean I will accept bullshit as truth in order to be seen to support what I believe in. The fact is US interventions are not working out and are making things worse. There has been enough war and it needs to stop. You disagree, then you go there and kill some rag-heads yourself.

nasska, I really do not think Iran or Israel want war. Israel is the jewel of the region and they fought hard to build what they have. Iran is not some desperate third world shit hole with nothing to lose either. It is a proud nation with a rich history. What would they gain from war ?

Kea, it is untrue to say that I have attempted to justify an attack on Iran – so much for your position being one based on facts …

Especially when we are actually debating the matter of Syria and the motives of the players.

There has been no US intervention in Syria to date, the fighting that has occurred there is an internal matter, blaming the Americans because the Damascus regime chooses to use military force against unarmed protestors and provoke an armed uprising is pathetic.

The flow of Moslem insurgents to the support of locals has little to do with the Americans and their support for democracy in the region – and the flow of weapons comes mostly from Arab sources, a little from Europe.

Of course the issue as it now stands is whether the Americans will support a no fly zone – and the terms of it. It could prevent Syrian advances, it could prevent either side from advancing – and thus maintain a cease-fire.

It’s a matter of record the first trial was a miscarriage of justice. The Privy Council decided the jury might have been influenced some evidence they didn’t hear. How often would that not be the case?

I’d go along with that but I reckon that sometime over the past sixty years the buggers have lost the plot JB. Personally I look at what happened in Vietnam…it was all downhill from there. 🙂

There has been no US intervention in Syria to date,

I have posted numerous press releases from the US saying they are intervening and promising to intervene some more. They are giving the imported Islamist mercenaries hundreds of millions in aid. They have promised weapons and military strikes. They are preparing to establish a no fly zone for to assist the rebels. I could litter this post with links and cut n’ pastes, but you can look it up yourself on main stream pro US Obama worshiping news sites. And this is just what Obama admits to. We all know what a sneaky darkie he is and how he uses the CIA for much of his dirty work, eg the drone war.

Johnboy, how are things going for the US in Afghanistan ? As good as Vietnam ? How about that Saddam guy they supported, how did that work out in the end ?

Afghanistan was a broken poor fractured country before the US invaded it. Yet the situation there has gone from bad to worse for the US. I have been looking into how things are going and I can tell you it is far worse than I thought. Afghanistan makes Vietnam look like victory.

If you really cared about our Yank buddies you would want them home safe asap !

Vietnam was just a continuance of Korea Kea and though it cost 50,000 odd American lives it made the Chinks realise they could not overrun all of Asia by force. In that respect it was a strategic success if not a tactical one. The Chinks have since carried on their war against us by other methods.

Iraq and Afghanistan are just modern versions of the Great Game with different teams. Iran, when it happens, will be the same! 🙂

When you suggest Iran will be the same as Korea, Afghanistan and Vietnam, do you mean a miserable failure ? I wish you were right, but I fear it may be worse than that. Especially if Russia decides to draw a line in the sand [pun]. Iran is not a bunch of poor rice farmers or primitive goat herders, both of which America has lost against.

Johnboy, I appreciate the past efforts of the war mongering imperialist American infidel pigs. But we much look at each situation on its merits. It is silly to support something that is not working, simply because they helped us out in the past, just as we helped them.

If I thought the US could prevail in the Middle East and improve things, then I would be more supportive. But that is clearly not happening and global security is worse for their efforts, not better.

Kea, the events in Syria are domestics that others have since got involved in – it is the Americans who have yet to get involved.

kowtow, not just a gas pipeline but an oil pipeline from the Kurdish/northern Iraq area. As well of course as the Iranians wanting pipelines to the Mediterranean Sea (no one is really opposed to these pipelines in concept, just the prospect that players advantaged if the Persian Gulf route was disrupted might have less reason to ensure continued access – paranoia on all sides).

There are three Sunni Moslem factions (maybe more) – Moslem Brotherhood related, Wahhabi, and al Qaeda related.

There maybe a connection between the Egyptians and the Qatar position, gas pipelines and Moslem Brotherhood. This would explain the Egyptian President calling for a no fly zone and cutting diplomatic relations with Syria.

Reid, Dumas knows squat. He claims the motive for anti-Syrian regime attitudes in the UK is because they are pro Israeli. The British Foreign Office is known for being anti-Israeli. The British policy in the ME was based on two factors, imperial continuance and oil. The former is no longer an issue.

Think Constantinople and Russia 19th C, think oil and gas pipelines 21st C.
