Norman should talk to his partner Labour to realise that attacking the person such is very counterproductive.
Sticking to Green/Labour policy will do more good as stupid comments will only damage them more in the public eye.
Its ultra left wing members, and the media, may love it but it will not get votes.
It will lead to more serious moves by the Greenpeace subsidiary, not normally found in this country.
A dangerous situation is arising by this kind of rhetoric – we have seen that Greenpeace are fanatics in the past beyond normal behaviour.
Norman may go down blazing.

Psychologist Sara Chatwin, from MindWorks, said in today’s society – where almost 50 per cent of Kiwi households are single-parent households – the session should have been promoted as a parent-child affair.

“I understand where the mother is coming from. The implications are that that child will feel incredibly left out if they are the only child without a dad who is going to a seminar like that.”

Parents of children at Matakana School were disappointed the event had been cancelled.

“Everyone knows the school system is dominated by women teachers and women parents and modern thinking is that this is to the detriment of boys. It concerns me that what appears to be a men-driven effort to redress this has been abandoned,” said a mother, who did not want to be named.

The school is planning a “more inclusive” replacement event.

Part of political correctness is to continue to execute the outrageous despite all objections from common folk who have common sense. This is how and why primary aged kids are taught about erections and condoms and gay sex in the UK as if 8-10 year olds need to know that. And that will come here too. But this is the modus operandi of the politically correct movement and this article is an example of that here and now, today, in NZ. Which is why I posted it.

See, the school is pretending that the real problem is, it wasn’t inclusive enough. Not a mention of the fact there are wimmins meetings all the time at which men aren’t welcome but that’s all OK, that’s “justice” [to pay men back for the hundreds of years of oppression, presumably]. Not a mention of the fact kids NEED fathers. In politically correct society, they don’t. [And this attitude is why we have so many fucked up units running around and more being produced every day, BTW]

So have a look. And note the mum’s comment. But she won’t be listened to. She’s only a common person. She doesn’t have the “expert” view that people like the psychologist has. And guess who the board will listen to, despite being composed of common folk. And yet again, fathers take a back seat as the PC engine rolls on, right over them. But it’s the kids who suffer in thos, most of all.

Thing is, people like Key and Bennett could stop this crap in a heartbeat if they had the perspicacity and the will to do it. But they don’t. Demonstrating… Draw your own conclusions.

Shearer should never, never have stood on that podium with Dr Gingernut, that image is going to stick. Being associated with the Greens is like having a family member who’s been to prison. Not ideal.

Pete, they have never been anything else other than disingenuous mean-spirited lying self-righteous arrogant and venal individuals who lack any sense of proportion and every single ethic you can name. They have always been like this even when Rob Donald was leading them and if you’ve never seen it before that’s not because it wasn’t always there. Donald himself didn’t have those qualities but he was the only Gween I’ve even seen who didn’t. Fitzsimmons certainly did and so does all the rest of them. I thought for awhile Hague might be another exception but his behaviour over the gay marriage bill put the lie to that possibility.

Now that Wussel has jumped in and taken the role of leader of the opposition, Trotman & sheep will have to devise a cunning plan to regain lost ground. In the days to come the 3 stooges will be trying to outdo each other with headline grabbing press releases. This is fantastic as this pisses off the average voter.

I might have to borrow pop corn from the useless prick Micky mouse from the standard. he is always rabbiting on about the demise of National and stocking up on pop corn to watch this.

I only looked at the Tom Scoitt cartoon, as I am a big fan of his work. I think you are drawing a long bow to call that anti-semitic. It shows Obama in the pocket of Israel, a comment that could be applied to almost any US Politican, seeing how unconditional support for Israel has become a sine qua non of US politics.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. It’s not anti-semitic to suggest that the jewish lobby in the US is very powerful, to the extent that unconditional support for Israel is automatic from virtually all senior american politicians. It’s a fair step from there to suggestions of intentational jewish conspiracies – although you will get that from some commenting on this blog.

Of the three cartoons I listed, that is definitely the most anti-semitic.
It lies on multiple levels. Obama has criticised Israel. Both Israel and Obama have moved for peace in bi-lateral talks. US politicians make decisions on the own.

Yes, if you choose to look at this with one eye closed, you can state that this is not full of racist imagery and it is purely political. But it doesn’t change the fact of what has been published as showing what can easily be interpreted as a “Jewish Conspiracy”.

The main question based on the other recent cartoon, and Metiria’s complaint – Is this cartoon likely to cause hostility against an Ethnic group, as documented in section 61 of the HRA? Yes, clearly it is.

Colville – I’ve heard there has been a lot of new members signing up over the last couple of days. It’s not a promise to vote in next years election, but it’s a vote of support for the party that promotes outdoor interests as well as providing a stable moderate voice in Government.

The deregistration was an embarrassment initially but it could be turning into the boot up the bum the party needed – and also that supporters needed. There’s been too much complacency and apathy. I stirred things up a bit recently.

And there are things happening. If there’s anyone in Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin and regions interested in doing something there is stuff in the South island on the go now.

Israel is a military ally of the US, and a strategic partner in the middle east – I wish they weren’t so beholden to each other, then Israel wouldn’t act like the short bully with a bigger friend. But calling out the relationship isn’t anti-Semitic – that’s a stretch.

Here’s a board member report on the whole membership situation.

The party was in the doldrums for sure, but this may be the shock that gets it back in action again and functioning like a party. The country will be better off it this happens.

Just to answer some of the queries:
Adze, mm, Scott Chris – I have always stated that criticising policies of the Government of Israel is not Anti Semitic. However criticising the entire nation or Delegitisation, taking Double Standards or Demonisation begs the question of Natan Sharansky’s 3D test: http://www.jcpa.org/phas/phas-sharansky-f04.htm

The point I am making is in relation to the Nisbet cartoon. It was a political cartoon, which clearly overstepped the mark and was unacceptable in my opinion.
The cartoons I have cited were politically motivated (with possible exception of the Evans cartoon as I have no idea what point he was trying to make). But they all overstepped the mark into racism and were also unacceptable.
There are many other borderline cartoons criticising Israel printed, which I am not referencing here. I would rather not feel that I am compelled to complain every time something is printed that I don’t like.

I did not raise a complaint at the time to the HRC – I made my views known via writing letters to the editor, or posting counter arguments on my blog. Now that Metiria has set a precedent, I think that it’s vital that I do, otherwise the arguments blend into acceptable (as your comments have shown).

MM – You stated that you like Tom Scott, and therefore support his cartoon. In Australia this week another media figure Eddie McGuire, also made a racist gaff. Eddie McGuire is not a racist, but has had to attend media conference after conference to beg forgiveness. He is also attending racism counselling, which he in turn was part of creating!! Why should Tom Scott not receive the same scrutiny, in your mind??

TiMG_Oz, I still don’t see it, unless you consider the cartoon to suggest Obama (or his office) is in the pocket of the state of Israel in the usual meaning of the term, which seems unlikely given that any aid is usually provided in the reverse direction (military aid). Also, I don’t think the cufflink is anything to be upset about – the Star of David is on the flag of Israel, it’s a widely-recognised symbol for both the people and the state.

Yes, of course “In the pocket” means to be corrupt. In the cartoon, we don’t see the “face” of this big “Jewish” thing. Surely its not the tiny state of Israel, but some other bigger secret organisation (hence why we can’t see the face).

What does it mean? It’s not clear at all. But, there is a history of this kind of imagery in Anti-semitism. Through the years, all the major anti-semitic movements state that the Jews are controlling the world through secret cartels, controlling the media and controlling the governments.

What exactly is Tom Scott trying to say? It’s not even factual as Jews are the one pushing for peace with a two state solution.

Now, Tom Scott’s motives may not have been one of racial vilification. But they are a hell of a lot worse than Eddie McGuire’s in as fact that Eddie got tongue-tied, but this was a clear attack!

Cartoons have become by default political commentary, because of the visual medium they are often simplistic, biased and exhibit strong prejudice therefore provoking similarly strong reaction. Cartoonist’s themselves dismiss the criticism by falsely complaining that it is only a cartoon. However what this illustrates is that cartoonist’s lack editorial skill and are not prepared to debate their opinions in a constructive way.

Colville – if more hunters had voted for UF last election they would have had at least one MP in parliament devoted to their cause. But at least it looks like they are rallying for the cause now. Last count 120. Optimistic there could end up being a party as well as Dunne, too much has ridden on him.

There is nothing at all special about the jewish version of the ignorant primitive abrahamic desert cults and they are worthy of no special consideration what so ever. In fact it could be said that when special consideration has been given it has seldom worked in favour of jewish people.

Timmy seems to think “gods chosen people” should have special rights Johnboy.

He probably uses WWII as an excuse. That is the war were among the 70 million who died there were a small number of Jewish folk. Way less than the number of Eastern Europeans killed and massively less than the number of Christian killed.

Personally I think Timmy is an Aussie not a “Jew”. If you live in Aussie you are an Aussie, not “Hindu” or “Christian” or “Jew”. He only claims the title “Jew” to demand special rights. Most people do not use their religion as their defining characteristic in day to day life.

The ironic thing is that when people have not considered Jews, as just like everyone else, it has usually ended in tears ! Some jews demand special consideration, but that has seldom worked well for the followers of that religion. Hitler did not see his large jewish population as simply productive law abiding Germans, he saw them as something separate and in need of “special consideration”. I don’t.

over at fishnhunt.co.nz there are about 50 that have joined in last 2 days. Aim to try and get UF into more of an outdoors/hunters party, its a niche that isnt taken by anyone else specially not the fecking gweens!

Good luck PG. I’m sure there is a genuine motivation behind the move to de-register after reading the Simmons article. BUT.
If UF cannot sort it’s shit out around the membership database over four years then how can it be expected to make any meaningful contribution to running the country?
Also: The actual truth of the matter is different from the story UF is spinning to arse-cover.
The truth is that there is no connection with the members and if members feel neglected then they drift away. It would have been prudent for Peter and Judy and co to touch base with a couple of hundred people a year to maintain membership levels.
Until recently I was a member of a political party. Some of the political policies were disagreeable to me, but it was how absolutely inept the party was at managing it’s own affairs that prevents me from being a member. I thought I was a member until they de-registered. Guess I’m not a member then.

When Dad was called to have his say as to how it came about,
‘I reckon I can clear it up,’ said Dad with trembling breath,
‘You see it’s quite a story – but it could explain his death.’
‘This here exploration mob had been looking at our soil,
And they reckoned that our farm was just the place to look for oil.
So they came and put a bore down and said they’d make some trials,
They drilled a hole as deep as hell, they said about three miles!
Well, they never found a trace of oil and off they went, post haste.
But I couldn’t see a hole like that go to flamin’ waste,
So I moved the dunny over it – a real smart move I thought –
I’d never have to dig again – I’d never be ‘caught short’.
The day I moved the dunny, it looked a proper sight,
But I didn’t dream poor Granddad would pass away that night,
Now I reckon what has happened – poor Granddad didn’t know,
The dunny was re-located when that night he had to go.
And you’ll probably be wondering how poor Granddad did his dash–
Well, he always used to hold his breath
Until he heard the splash!!

Monique – all those who were members will still be members, nothing has changed there. And there’s already quite a few new members (120 by lunchtime today and I know of others since).

You’re right about members being neglected. I don’t think it’s up to Peter, he’s got plenty to do. So it’s the rest of us that need to step up. If everyone waits for someone else to do something then nothing will get done.

I know there has been some activity in Auckland. There was already a South island initiative that will continue, there is regional meeting scheduled next month. It will be what we make of it.

Major 30% reduction in modelers estimates of Climate Sensitivity (Skeptics were right)

Finally the modelers are catching up with the slow-down or pause in global warming over the last decade. Where the best estimate for the IPCC was 3.3 degrees C with a range of 2.0 to 4.5C, Otto et al have revised the best estimate to 2C, with a range of 1.2C – 3.9C.

Effectively the power of CO2 to warm just got 30% less, according to a team of researchers, many of whom have in the past have published more alarming papers. Remember “there is no debate” and “global warming is a fact” a lot “like gravity”. (And that gravitational constant g could be revised by a third soon, right?)
