The PM has announced:

Prime Minister John Key has today announced Rotorua MP will be appointed as a new Minister outside Cabinet, following the resignation of Peter Dunne.

Mr McClay was elected into Parliament in 2008 and was made the Chair of the Finance and Expenditure Committee last year.

“Mr McClay will be the new Revenue Minister and Associate Health Minister,” Mr Key says.

“The role of Associate Conservation Minister will be discontinued and those responsibilities will be assumed by the lead Minister – Dr Nick Smith.”

Congrats to Todd McClay. Well deserved.

The deputy chair of the Finance and Expenditure select committee is , so presumably he will become the new Chair.

He has the background for this role so it is a good step up. Chair of FEC is a stepping stone into the Ministry. So I guess Paul Goldsmith will be the next Chair. It does imply there will be no coming back for Dunne.

So never a real job to start with?

More that Dunne has strong support from fishers and hunters, so by being Associate Conservation he could influence policy in areas of interest to them.

So one up-side of the débâcle is John is able to give another minister-ship to his own team, and not have to waste it on a one-man party.

Another up-side – if Peter Dunne was indeed a serial leaker, he has leaked his last, and no doubt Andrea will move on to other targets (in my dreams Winston).

Is it just me or does anybody else feel totally underwhelmed by the appointment of Todd McClay?

Hey……does the demise of Dunne mean that we can now do away with the families commission?
