Harriet, my apologies, I was just trying to make a joke out of my position which is, there is such a thing as love, it’s just that science hasn’t yet caught up.

Rufus is yet another liar for jesus worthy of no respect at all by any right minded person. Usually these debates are started by the bible cult followers, not by atheists.

Grow up, calm the fuck down, and show some common decency.

No one with an ounce of common decency would look to the bible for morality. Religion spreads hate, death, intolerance and suffering where ever it goes. If you consider it grown up to ignore that fact and stay silent then you are one seriously disturbed god addled nut job.

And I better not have my sleep in disturbed by any bell ringing tomorrow morning as the cult summons its hypocritical half wits to grovel to a their sadistic prick of a god.

No it doesn’t. Some people have used religion to spread hate, death, intolerance and suffering, but others also spread spread hate, death, intolerance and suffering without using religion to justify it.

Another question that is unlikely to be able to be answered – has religion been more of a positive than a negative influence?

In modern New Zealand, without the past excesses of control, fear, fire and brimstone, I think for those who choose to follow religion it is most positive for them. And the work of religious organisations is mostly for the common good, with most being prominently involved in providing social services.

In a society where most people are free to believe or not believe without coercion or persecution religion could even be at it’s most effective.
