Friday Photo: 9 August

August 9th, 2013 at 8:57 am by Chthoniid

This is a  pic  fresh from the camera.  I’ve been in Yunnan and down to Xishuangbana- an area that contains a large reserve of tropical forests that are close to Laos.  There are a number of species (tigers, elephants) that migrate between the two countries.

It’s also one of the transit route for drugs coming out of the golden triangle. So, this picture is actually from a recovery center in Xishuangbanna for elephants (closed off to the public).  This is part of a small group that drug-smugglers were using to move drugs across the border.

For a moment there, I thought it might have been our resident photography expert and critic.

For a moment, TDM, I thought you may have been referring to the poisoned dwarf from St Mary’s Bay. But then I noted that the eye in the photo was clear and bright, so obviously my fleeting line of thought was wrong.

Thanks, Chthoniid. Great pikkie. But a pity the elephant didn’t stomp and trample on the morons with the drugs.

Irrespective of elephants, China has a pretty unforgiving policy towards those indulging in drug smuggling :)

The strategy was reasonably clever- the area between the 2 countries is pretty rugged, the animals don’t stick to the roads, and they don’t have to present anyone with a passport or travel document.
