It is critical that Dunedin votes for a mayor and council best able to promote business and job growth – if you haven’t voted yet you can help lift the city out of the economic doldrums by voting for positive change.

We’re stuck with high debt so fiscal prudence and keeping discretionary spending to a minimum are critical for the council finances, but it’s still critical that economic growth and jobs are high priorities.

The current mayor seems to be conflicted with his Green leaning ideology at odds with what the city requires – his party would be more appropriately called Greener Dunedin. Cull’s lukewarm and vague comments on seeking jobs and business is damning of his actual priorities.

Voting for a mayor and councillors who believe business performance is crucial and who know how to lobby Government effectively is of critical importance. There is still time to select a council that wants to grow Dunedin, and a business savvy dedicated mayor is essential.

A shake-up of how and where we bury the dead has prompted a city council to raise the “terrifying” possibility of people simply digging a hole and “putting granny in it”.

I suggest plant spuds on top if just a hole seems inappropriate for granny.

letting the bereaved bury loved ones on family land.

The latter proposal was aimed mainly at those with a farm or similar who could demonstrate it would stay in the family for generations, lead commissioner Dr Wayne Mapp said

“A national standard would set out minimum standards you would expect when a person was buried,” Dr Mapp said.

“My personal preference is there to be a separate title for an area of land [for burial], but I can understand it might be sufficient for it to be noted on the title of the land.”

On the title sounds fair. It will remain easily accessed under a lim and stop costs spiraling with separate titled type bureaucracy.

“I don’t know that all the neighbours will be happy though, seeing a headstone outside your window. A lot of people are scared of dead people so they might not like that.”

spiritual beliefs are the holders problem. scared of the uglywuglys get over it.

The problem of relatives steeling bodies under tikanga and ignoring the wishes of the dead person and those close is one that needs to be addressed.

There is research overseas into the disposal of the dead bodies by dissolving them in an alkaline solution and flushing them into the sewerage system. I have used potassium hydroxide to do just this and it works well. (Didn’t flush it down the system.)

In Mexico, a man who worked for different drug cartels admitted disposing over 300 bodies with it.[13]

Saves productive space being wasted on storing corpses long term.

What an outstanding game of rugby at Ellis Park. Both sides played themselves to a standstill, but the All Blacks showed why they are world champions.

And credit to referee Nigel Owens, who pretty much stood back and let the players play. It’s easy to bag referees, but Owens’ performance with the whistle today was as good as I have seen for some time.

Councils are not their to promote business and job growth.They are there to provide a base in their core functions for private enterprise/business to flourish and therefore provide job growth.
There’s a difference.

Unless you want the all waffle do little incumbent who appears to be anti growth (or at least conflicted between “sustainability” and growth) you wouldn’t find anyone to vote for here.

I think council should be actively encouraging business development, and they should be strongly lobbying government. The alternative is for Dunedin to keep going backwards. I’ll do what I can to prevent that.

The impression I get is that most people here want action from council. Inaction has had a poor result this term.

It doesn’t matter what the candidates for Dunedin Council stand for because in West Harbour I only have one candidate and nobody challenged him so he was elected unopposed …. why do you think I am not terribly interested in the local elections.

Since I rarely read the adverts in the STAR [ free newspaper ] most of the candidates adverts passed me by … by the time I found Tat Loo’s I had posted my votes. Funny how taking a stance can put people off … by the time I finished rweading PG’s I was certain I would not vote him for Mayor … the only vote I have for the council.

With so few votes being cast I wonder that the council hive off those of West Harbour from the rest of the city.

Burying the dead should be outlawed … cluttering up the earth … not for me I hope.
As for burying in your backyard GHU … every time the earth moves or progress happens we have our local indigineous people say “You can’t do that my G G G G father was buried there”
All bodies should be available for organ donations and the rest cremated.

As regards the Affordable Care Act (or Obamacare), someone has written a very good article that rebuffs those who say it’s law now and can’t be changed. I’ll try and explain this in my own words as best I can.

When the Obamacare bill was presented, the Senate attached it as an amendment to another bill that the House had already passed (and which had nothing to do with the bill the house had passed).

It was introduced in Congress in 2009 by Senate majority leader Harry Reid, who called it the “Senate health care bill” (a description still touted long afterwards on Reid’s website). Employing the chicanery that marked the legislation through and through, the Democrat-controlled Senate turned its 3,000-page mega-proposal into a Senate amendment. The Senate attached its amendment to a nondescript, uncontroversial House bill (the “Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act of 2009”) that had unanimously passed (416–0) in the lower chamber.

Thus the Obamacare bill originated in the Senate. The problem with that, is that when the bill went to the Supreme Court, Justice Roberts decided that Obamacare was, in fact, a tax – and rewrote it as such. This is even though the Dems and Obama strenuously asserted that it WASN’T a tax. Now, the thing is – ANY bill to do with spending or tax MUST originate in the House and Obamacare did not – it came from the Senate – which means it really isn’t constitutional.

It is not just that the intensely unpopular Obamacare was unconstitutional as fraudulently portrayed by the president and congressional Democrats who strong-armed and pot-sweetened its way to passage. It is that Obamacare is unconstitutional as rewritten by Roberts. It is a violation of the Origination Clause — not only as I have expansively construed it, but even under Matt’s narrow interpretation of the Clause.

Contrary to Obama’s latest dissembling, the Supreme Court’s decision is far from an imprimatur. The president insisted that Obamacare was not a tax, famously upbraiding George Stephanopoulos of the Democratic-Media Complex for insolently suggesting otherwise. Yet, the narrow Court majority held that the mammoth statute could be upheld only as an exercise of Congress’s power to tax — i.e., contrary to Obama’s conscriptive theory, it was not within Congress’s commerce power to coerce Americans, as a condition of living in this country, to purchase a commodity, including health insurance.
Note the crucial qualifier: Obamacare could be upheld only as a tax. Not that Obamacare is necessarily a legitimate tax. To be a legitimate tax measure, Obamacare would have to have complied with all the Constitution’s conditions for the imposition of taxes. Because Democrats stubbornly maintained that their unilateral handiwork was not a tax, its legitimacy vel non as a tax has not been explored. Indeed, it is because Obamacare’s enactment was induced by fraud — a massive confiscation masquerading as ordinary regulatory legislation so Democrats could pretend not to be raising taxes — that the chief justice was wrong to rebrand it post facto and thus become a participant in the fraud.

We now know Obamacare was tax legislation. Consequently, it was undeniably a “bill for raising revenue,” for which the Constitution mandates compliance with the Origination Clause (Art. I, Sec. 7). The Clause requires that tax bills must originate in the House of Representatives. Obamacare did not.

Representative Franks has introduced a resolution (H.R. 153) expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the Obamacare legislation clearly violated the Origination Clause. The measure is gaining momentum. As it rapidly picks up co-signers, the resolution should materially advance the cases filed against Obamacare, including one to be argued this fall in the D.C. Circuit federal appeals court. After all, if a statute violates the Origination Clause, it is a nullity — invalid from the moment of enactment.

Three friends married women from different parts of the world…..

He said the first day he didn’t see anything, the second day he didn’t see anything either but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher.

Moral of the story.
If you want something done do it yourself.

Which is what Pete is doing. (remember most of our useless MSM are women).

Owens was okay I thought but certainly not the best refereeing for some time. Got some big decisions wrong. If Franks got a yellow for that, then the beast was lucky not to get a red and he didn’t even get a yellow for his cheap hit on McCaw. Also a lot of times we were over the ball and they held on and no penalty. Unlike the Springboks 3 weeks ago, we were good enough to win anyway.

NEW LABOUR leader David Cunliffe is getting good notices, even from those at the opposite end of the political spectrum, such as former ACT leader Rodney Hide.
But I’m withholding judgment. I decided I disliked Mr Cunliffe when, as Minister of Health in the Clark government, he sacked the democratically elected Hawke’s Bay District Health Board, describing them as “a nasty little nest of self-perpetuating provincial elites”. He struck me then as a politician who liked to throw his weight around just because he could.

Nothing since then has changed my view of him. In fact my opinion was reinforced by an interview with Guyon Espiner in The Listener which exposed Mr Cunliffe as precious, controlling and acutely concerned – in fact almost neurotic – about his public image.
His pronouncements before and since his election as leader suggest he’s a politician who will say whatever he thinks will ingratiate him with voters. In this respect he is disconcertingly similar to former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd.

There’s a Uriah Heep-ish quality to Mr Cunliffe: rampant ambition overlaid by a phony air of humility. Those quibbles aside, I’m sure he’s a top bloke.

Very interesting article about Steve Jobs’ presentation of the very first iPhone back in 2007. According to insiders, it was as buggy as hell and functions had to be accessed in a certain order or it would crash. In 100 attempts at the presentation, Jobs didn’t make it through one without a crash, so he had several other iPhones standing by just in case.

It’s hard to overstate the gamble Jobs took when he decided to unveil the iPhone back in January 2007. Not only was he introducing a new kind of phone — something Apple had never made before — he was doing so with a prototype that barely worked. Even though the iPhone wouldn’t go on sale for another six months, he wanted the world to want one right then. In truth, the list of things that still needed to be done was enormous. A production line had yet to be set up. Only about a hundred iPhones even existed, all of them of varying quality. Some had noticeable gaps between the screen and the plastic edge; others had scuff marks on the screen. And the software that ran the phone was full of bugs.

The iPhone could play a section of a song or a video, but it couldn’t play an entire clip reliably without crashing. It worked fine if you sent an e-mail and then surfed the Web. If you did those things in reverse, however, it might not. Hours of trial and error had helped the iPhone team develop what engineers called “the golden path,” a specific set of tasks, performed in a specific way and order, that made the phone look as if it worked.

None of these kludges fixed the iPhone’s biggest problem: it often ran out of memory and had to be restarted if made to do more than a handful of tasks at a time. Jobs had a number of demo units onstage with him to manage this problem. If memory ran low on one, he would switch to another while the first was restarted. Personally, I always enjoy Redbaiter’s contributions. I’ve said before he may be more effective if holding off on some of the abuse, but a lot of it is well deserved and he’s deliberately provoked all the time. He knows his stuff more than most and I’ve learned plenty from his posts.

Sorry, but what a load of bollocks. Even Georgina Beyer saying that at seven years old, you don’t know what you want.

Housing Minister Nick Smith is now saying the Government is committed to maintaining the independence of the Reserve Bank.

Back in July he said the Government had made it plain to the Reserve Bank that it wanted to see an improvement in home ownership.

And it wanted the bank to try and take the bubble out of the Auckland market.

But speaking on TV3’s “The Nation” Dr Smith said the Government needed to respect the independence of that Reserve Bank.

“ It just gives me the nervous nellies when I see opposition parties that want to stamp all over that independence,” he said.

“That may be good politics, but we have a huge amount of stake in terms of good financial stability and good monetary policy long term for our country.”

The Minister rejected the argument that he had failed to deliver on his July promise to improve home ownership and bring an end to the Auckland housing bubble.

The head of New Zealand On Air music says Kiwi teen sensation Lorde has highlighted the important role that the internet played in her rise to the top.

Lorde’s (her real name is Ella Yelich O’Connor) hit single “Royals” started off as a free internet download and now transformed into a U.S Billboard number one hit.

New Zealand on Air music manager Brendan Smyth said the internet has provided a new platform to launch a music career.

“What has changed in the music business is the number of tools that are available if you like in the tool kit for connecting songs with the people and creating the kind of buzz and word of mouth and that is the value and what the internet has brought to music,” said Mr Smyth.

Although the internet has changed the pathway for musicians to reach the top of the charts, he says the one thing that will never change is the fact that a good song is the number one pre-requisite for a successful hit.

Talking of what leads the news Radio Aotearoa Lefty Bollocks at 10 am had the,drum roll, Wellington start of worldwide Arctic 30 in Wellington protest……yawn!
TVNZ also gave it prominence.

Judging by the turn out at the worldwide protests ,the only people who give a shit are public broadcast editors, a handfull of members of Commiepeace,family and a few hangers on.

Paddy and Mick are sent to prison. Desperate to stay in touch with each other, they invent a code and tap messages to each other by banging on the hot water pipes with a spoon. The system worked perfectly for a time but sadly it broke down after they were transferred to separate cells.

Breathlessly announcing a major protest outside the Russian embassy, and there were about 50 people there, all lauding Holland for taking legal action in …..The Hague?? some UN court. Probably all family members.

What a bunch of twats. If you climb onto a nationally flagged vessel in international waters, you are breaching that countries sovereignty – the ship, or rig, or whatever it is, is considered in international law as being part of that nation.

I suspect there will be a showpiece trial, and a token mild term of imprisonment – say 18 months, then the balance of the sentence to be commuted to the country of citizenship with tags on the passports as part of the deal.

As regards the Affordable Care Act (or Obamacare), someone has written a very good article that rebuffs those who say it’s law now and can’t be changed. I’ll try and explain this in my own words as best I can.

Good luck with that. If the Republicans keep on this way, they won’t be able to go out in public. They’ve irritated an awful lot of people.
