The 2013 Legatum Prosperity Index has just been published. NZ is in 5th place out of 142 countries, which is the highest rating for an Asia-Pacific country. The top 10 are:

- Switzerland
- Canada
- Sweden
- New Zealand
- Denmark
- Australia
- Finland
- Netherlands
- Luxembourg
The bottom 10 are:
- Chad
- Central African Republic
- Congo
- Afghanistan
- Burundi
- Togo
- Yemen
- Guinea
- Haiti
- Angola
For NZ the sub-indices were:
- Economy 17th
- Entrepreneurship & Opportunity 15th
- Governance 2nd
- Education 1st
- Health 20th
- Safety & Security 15th
- Personal Freedom 5th
- Social Capital 2nd
