New Zealand is on the brink of the biggest construction boom in 40 years, fuelled by demand for housing in Auckland and the rebuild in Canterbury, a new report says.

Other busy regions will be Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Wellington, the National Construction Pipeline report says.

It points to an unprecedented level of building over the next five years and at least 10 per cent yearly growth for four years, peaking in 2016, when nearly $32 billion of construction activity is predicted.

The report is a joint effort of industry and government, pulling together forecasts for 2013 to 2018 from the public and private sectors.

The report was commissioned by the Building and Construction Productivity Partnership, a joint industry and government body set up in 2011 to address the barriers to productivity in New Zealand’s building industry.

Around the time of the referendum, I received a card addressed to me from something called the Labour Party. Very convincing literature to oppose asset sales. If only everything in life could be summed up using newspaper headline sized arguments. We’d all be better off.

It was a nice try on their part. One small problem – the card arrived about the day of the deadline and even I, a lifelong procrastinator, had ticked a box and sent it off by that time.

On National Radio yesterday I heard that Goff is prepared to commit perjury, as like it will ever happen, to defend the fact that he “says” he does not know which member of his staff, on secondment to SSC, and MFAT, stole and copied cabinet papers.
This person’s name is well known in Wellington political circles.
Sadly the Fairfax paper is in full support – desperate for circulation.
Looking forward to hear the name of this thief via an overseas website soon.
But that will probably earn a promotion to a Labour list seat next year.
What a sad indictment of a senior political, one time Labour leader and former Cabinet Minister.
I even respected him once, despite his politics.
Like Lying Brown what is it that gives these people the right to be above normal standards of morals and integrity.
Mr Goff – I hope your Hail Mary’s are heard in your next confession, but after the absolution you can do it all again.

It’s not climate science but simple science.

The earth is like a giant fridge, it heats up and then it reaches a tipping point and then it cools. this kind of weather action is going to be more common from now on. The earth is fast approaching another ice age. well overdue by 12,000 years. When it does happen you will wake up one morning and see snow in all the unusual places like Darwin, southern California, Texas, in fact, all around the equator.

You haven’t actually made a point. You just posted an extract from an old paper someone wrote years ago about Pacific immigration.

If you wish to make an economic case around immigration then please do so. But remember it must encompass all the literature, and there is plenty showing how beneficial it is.

On the other hand, if you wish to just continue posting carefully selected extracts from cherry-picked papers, then you should probably know that everyone recognises you for what you are; a sad, frustrated, ignorant bigot.

Since orbital variations are predictable, computer models that relate orbital variations to climate can predict future climate possibilities. Two caveats are necessary: that anthropogenic effects (global warming) are likely to exert a larger influence over the short term; and that the mechanism by which orbital forcing influences climate is not well understood. Work by Berger and Loutre suggests that the current warm climate may last another 50,000 years.

All this carry on about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade staff breaching the confidences placed in them has got me thinking.
I seem to recall Robert D. Muldoon in one of his books, possibly The Diary of a Young Turk, commenting upon the supreme confidence he had in the public service. Although they disagreed with some of his actions they never ever betrayed the confidences placed in them.
The politicisation of the public service, towards the parties of the Left, over the past forty years is exceedingly worrying. This is a very virulent and nasty trend.

… then Chinese goods will go from the cheapest to the most expensive. Their entire economy is based on exports. Their entire economy is at risk.
The provisions deliberately exclude China. For example, yarn for clothing must come from member countries, and not from China.
This could potentially invite retaliation from China, an economic superpower in their own right.

Investigators claim their search has led to something, ‘More Nefarious Than You Can Imagine’, and a ‘Universe-Shattering’ Twist.

The lead investigator in Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse investigation of President Obama’s birth certificate says the case has taken a startling turn, and sheriff’s investigators now are assisting the Cold Case volunteers.

“When this information is finally exposed to the public, it will be universe-shattering,” Mike Zullo told WND. “This is beyond the pale of anything you can imagine.”

Zullo explained that because it’s an active investigation that could produce criminal charges, he’s unable to reveal details at the moment.

But the allegations, he said, which go far beyond a fraudulent birth certificate, could be public as early as March.

Scientists are arguing for the archaeological excavation of a shipwreck lying buried in sand in the Kaipara Harbour after a discovery that could rewrite the history of New Zealand’s early European settlement.

Carbon dating of the vessel, completed last week, puts its construction as after Abel Tasman but before James Cook.

The accepted history is Dutch explorer Tasman was the first European to reach New Zealand in 1642 and there was no-one else until Captain Cook’s voyage in 1769.

A paper, accepted by the international Journal of Archaeological Science last week, dates the ship buried at Midge Bay, on the north head of the Kaipara Harbour, as being built in 1705, plus or minus nine years.

The paper cited Cook’s journals, in which he documented accounts by local Maori of “earlier encounters with Europeans, with the ships having been wrecked and the survivors killed and eaten”. Hilliam believes the ship is older than the dates suggested by the journal paper and that it is a Portuguese ship, and all but one of the crew were killed and eaten.

And there will be more if we could find them.

N.B. the Spanish were in the Philippines about 300 years ago.

If I was American I’d definitely vote for African-Americans like Allen West or Elbert Guillory; people of morals and substance (at least more than Obama anyway).

And NO Obama hasn’t proved anything with the so-called birth certificate he produced. He’s never produced an actual, physical copy. All we have is the cobbled together PDF thing from the Whitehouse website. I downloaded it myself when it was released and (like many others) opened it in Adobe Illustrator. It has many layers of text and writing that you can turn on or off or move around.

Look at the link I gave above. The very firm that Obama used to defend himself in the certificate thing, Perkins Coie, has an expert who says the certificate provided by Obama is most likely fake.

More recently, Grace Vuoto of the World Tribune reported that among the experts challenging the birth certificate is certified document analyst Reed Hayes, who has served as an expert for Perkins Coie, the law firm that has been defending Obama in eligibility cases.

“We have obtained an affidavit from a certified document analyzer, Reed Hayes, that states the document is a 100 percent forgery, no doubt about it,” Zullo told the World Tribune.

“Mr. Obama’s operatives cannot discredit [Hayes],” the investigator told the news outlet. “Mr. Hayes has been used as the firm’s reliable expert. The very firm the president is using to defend him on the birth certificate case has used Mr. Hayes in their cases.”

The Tribune reported Hayes agreed to take a look at the documentation and called almost immediately.

“There is something wrong with this,” Hayes said.

Hayes produced a 40-page report in which he says “based on my observations and findings, it is clear that the Certificate of Live Birth I examined is not a scan of an original paper birth certificate, but a digitally manufactured document created by utilizing material from various sources.”

“In over 20 years of examining documentation of various types, I have never seen a document that is so seriously questionable in so many respects. In my opinion, the birth certificate is entirely fabricated,” he says in the report.

But you believe Obama why? Because he says so? You believe the word of a proven liar?

And when does a “conspiracy theory” become a real conspiracy? Are all conspiracy theories fake? Some must be true, based on evidence. But no, liberals needed to invent a term (“birther”) to smear and discredit people who only want the truth. That’s the liberal Saul Alinsky way. And that’s the Chicago way.

It is populated with farm animals and crops (in case you haven’t noticed). We earn a living off the land and the towns and cities serve the countryside.
There are other niche industries but the notion of “unpopulated” is a non-sequitor.

I’m not pro gay agenda but I am surprised by the close mindedness in Oz.

I wouldn’t want an openly gay PM but am happy we as Kiwi’s were open minded enough to have the first Tans sexual MP in the world.

The thing with the gay agenda is they are very angry I can’t accept a gay PM cause they want the whole highway to themselves. And they’ll use hetero sympathy to get there.

Millions more for benefit heroes

Extended family members who care for children who are not their own will get an extra $35 million in benefits, the Government will announce today.

More than 12,400 kids in New Zealand are cared for by relatives, often grandparents, when their parents are either incapable or unwilling to raise them, often due to drug use, violence, neglect and mental health issues.

Around 8500 foster parents already receive an unsupported child benefit, with the Government paying out about $111.5m between July 2011 and July 2012. But many say the money is not enough.

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett said today’s funding package would include a one-off establishment grant of $350 when a carer takes a child into their home. It would also include a “start-of-year payment” that will range between $400 for kids under five and $550 for children over 14 to relieve caregivers having to buy school uniforms and pay fees

Imagine there was an African tribe that had a long history in a land, had turned that land into a nation, brought it into modernity and created its democracy, and had reason to believe that sharing power would lead to its own persecution. Would it surprise anyone if they took measures to ensure their safety, cultural integrity, and hold on power?

But we don’t have to theorize. There’s no shortage of African countries where one tribe dominated government — such as with the Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda — and tribes have often spilled blood vying for power. One difference, though, is that the dominant group usually doesn’t rule democratically but autocratically; another is that they’re generally far more brutal than SA’s apartheid government. And there’s a third difference: whatever the persecutions, oh-so humanitarian Western moderns generally pay these countries little mind.

So it’s hard to escape the conclusion that the real problem the West had with SA was that the ruling tribe happened to be the wrong color.

It should be added, however, that SA whites did do one thing no other group has. Is there any other instance in history in which a small minority built a country, had a long history within it, brought it into modernity and created its democracy, and then handed that democracy’s reins to a much larger group, even though reason informed that this would bring persecution? Call it magnanimity, call it stupidity, call it both, but it’s one thing for sure: strikingly unprecedented.

Whatever you call it, SA whites had a lot of help in crafting their suicide pact from a hypocritical Western world that saw a government more benevolent than most others on its continent, but nonetheless placed an undue onus on it because the rulers were the wrong race. SA was the George Zimmerman of the geopolitical stage: the white-on-black incident that got all the press while rampant black-on-black crime was ignored.

In truth, many of SA’s current troubles could have been avoided by a two-state solution, the kind of healthy “apartness” the West so easily saw the logic in upon the former Yugoslavia’s dissolution. And now, even though the West’s ending apartheid has led to impending genocide, it sees nothing.

To the modern liberal, white is the new invisible.

Obama has spent $1 million dollars hiding – the marriage license of his father (Barack Sr.) and mother (Stanley Ann Dunham), name change records (Barry Soetero to Barack Hussein Obama), adoption records, records of his and his mother’s repatriation as U.S. citizens from Indonesia, baptism records, Noelani Elementary School (Hawaii) records, Punahou School financial aid or school records, Occidental College financial aid records, Harvard Law School records, Columbia senior thesis, Columbia College records, record with Illinois State Bar Association, files from his terms as an Illinois state senator, his law client list, medical records and passport records.

What does he have to hide? No other president has done this.

2. The Clinton’s started the “birther” movement during Hillay’s run in the Primaries when she was running against Obama. The Right didn’t start it. That makes Clinton a ‘birther’.

Fletch, the Hilary Clinton campaign raised the issue of whether the natural born citizen criteria involved having two American citizens as parents, as Obama had a father from Kenya Africa in the US as a student – it made no challenge to his status as someone born in the USA.

The whole birther story is a joke, exploiting the fact that Hawaii does not release original birth certificates. The two parents were in Hawaii at the time attending university, they married because she was pregnant to give the child legitimacy – where else would he be born?

What some are suggesting is that Obama received foreign aid – a scholarship, or scholarships – of some kind that enabled him to get into the exclusive Punahou School (it’s too exclusive for someone of Obama’s family to afford straight up). The emphasis being on foreign – meaning that he was a foreigner benefitting from this scholarship. Therefore, being a foreigner, he was not a U.S citizen.

But of course, all those records have been sealed.

Also, he may have got a grant to go study in Pakistan in the 1980s

His only claim to a foreign passport was as the son of a Kenyan and the adopted son of an Indonesian – the latter applied by the time he went to that school. But he was born an American an entitled to an American passport.
