Keeping Stock

“Bevy of Heavies”; like “Pants-Down Brown” and “Two Minute Len” that phrase is going to hang like an albatross around Len Brown’s neck as he is shielded by a wall of hi-viz from the people who voted him in. And Auckland ratepayers are once again picking up the tab.

It’s not the size of the tab that matters now. It’s the principle of it all. If Len Brown can’t face up to his critics without a Bevy of Heavies, he is unfit for the role of Mayor of Auckland. Only he can end this madness, and he should do it today.

The problem is KS is that’s he’s fronted up warts and all. Criticism from afar isn’t going to make any difference to him nor are insults. The Courts could, but McCready’s effort seems to be on the wrong track if he’s relying the AG (or was that SG) to consent to the prosecution. It may end up that it’s like it or lump it unless the ratepayers do something.

@KS: The fact that Brown has seen fit to employ 7 (yes, seven!) security guards to protect him from the voters of Auckland, confirms our suspicion that he intends to ride this entire mess out.

In addition to his nauseating sense of entitlement, he has a total lack of morals, a lack of ethics, a total loss of credibility and total disrespect for the role of Mayor. He clearly has no sense of shame either.

Maybe his future lies as a Labour List MP?

Len Brown’s venial facing down of his failings and betrayals is NZ politics at its most mercurial. So, if staff betray him, or steal money, or inappropriately share confidential documents, one presumes that will all be accepted, too, based on the Brown standard. Good for Goose etc.

People of Auckland time exert your right to protest about this elected official (Russians and Arabs do it), and hold this scoundrel to account. Slow clap his Council meetings, picket his public appearances, write to the paper, call talk back, make his tenure impossible.

Embattled Auckland Mayor Len Brown says the public "don't give much of a hoot" about his dealings with casino and hotel operator SkyCity.

Mr Brown says he is "firmly focused" on Auckland, and "the rest of it will take care of itself in time".

"Aucklanders have been very clear with their message to me over the Christmas break, and we spent a lot of time walking the parks with Shan, in the town centres, just listening to the community," he says. "Their message is they by and large don't give much of a hoot about what's happened."

It seems clear what his spin doctors have advised – “bluff and bullshit your way through this, your job is our jobs”.

Len Brown and his heavies, all supporters from South Auckland, never having paid rates, yet receiving all the benefits and freebies from those that do. This is what you get Auckland, be careful next time you have a vote, anything from the left is leeching, they don’t have the ability to gain a high standard of living on their own merits.

I still believe that only named Ratepayers and New Zealand Citizens should be allowed to vote as to how their money is spent in local Elections.
Similarly in National Elections – that is to say only Citizens (and positive Taxpayers).
Now as we have seen more recently anybody in New Zealand can register and vote.

A wee break from the politics, if I may. Now, my opinions of Gareth Morgan are probably in line with most on here, so it’s not easy to say this, but:

Go and watch the Phoenix.

Seriously. It’s not just that they were lucky enough (and football needs a certain amount of that) to put 5 past Melbourne, they’re playing high quality, attractive, attacking and enterprising football and they deserve more support. It’d be worth living in Wellington to be able to be a season ticket holder.

I gotta say, as much as i enjoyed the cricket yesterday, the commentary was god awful.

Surely they could have done better than gavaskar? New drinking game – every time he mentions how great the indians are at fielding, skull a beer. you wont make it to the end of the game.

I think sky may be sucking up to the indian cricket board. it was constant praise. Even when they needed 180 of 17 overs with 6 wickets left they were a shoe in.

Dhoni made the most highly praised 40 in the history of the game – how many more time will we hear the “he averages over 100 in successful run chases” stat?

Dime went to cricinfo this morning to check the records of these gods among men. Dhoni and the century maker are class. The rest average in their 20’s outside of india. Hell, i didnt even take out the rest of the subcontinent.

Its time to put Nisbett out to pasture. Smith & gaviskar = zzzz

Then ya have that fucking know it all cumming. The dude averaged 26 in tests!!! twenty fucking six!!!!!!!

And how dare he praise the Indian players? Everyone knows you can only mention New Zealanders in any decent commentary..
Perhaps we should get Justin Marshall in to team up with Nisbo in the summer as well?

*Oh and I’d be a little wary of rubbishing this Indian team at this rather early stage of the tour…remember it wasn’t so long ago that these mighty Black Caps got spanked by Bangladesh..

The indian team – love having them here. they are a really good side. they arent one of the all time great sides though. ive never heard so much praise dumped on one team. its not like we are talking the great aussie side with hayden, langer, gilly, warne, mcgrath, ponting, lee..

Fair enough, have the indian guy praise his side.. but my god, he mentioned their fielding about 50 times. fielding which was crap yesterday.

surely they could have got a younger guy with a bit more personality.

Dime, compared to the “natives” Gavaskar was brilliant.

This Indian team are the best in the world at the moment (in ODIs) with one of the most impressive opening med-quicks I’ve seen in that format for some time – far better than any operating across the Tasman yesterday.

It was bloody hard watching both games last night but well worth it, if only to reinforce just how bad NZ commentators and colour men are.

Interesting.

Kiwi Sam Lee, original founder of Snow Park in Cardrona Valley, is developing a new kind of clip-on video camera called the meMini on Kickstarter. It’s been funded, so is going into production, I guess.

Basically, you wear the camera on your clothes (it has a magnetic clip) and it continuously records on a loop of up to 5 minutes. So it’s basically continuously recording all the time, and when you record an event that’s just happened that you might like to save, you just press a button and it saves the last 5 minutes.

The idea is supposed to be that no precious moments (that you didn’t know were going to occur) are lost.

Croatian is a tough language for English speakers, but I’ve used the Pimsleur audio CD courses and they are good, and they have one on Croatian. If you have the time, Pimsleur Basic Croatian might give you some basic Croatian phrases etc.

I’d oppose that that on the grounds that I am a renter in Auckland but a property owner in the Bay of Plenty. Another reason I don’t believe it will work is NZ will become more and more like the US and Europe where the 1/4 acre dream is a thing of the past like baker lite telephones.

A claim for which he provides no proof. In particular I challenge the that “good mums and dads” have been targeted, that’s a ridiculous claim.

Nothing like it.

Dunne said he would not support the bill which was unfair and handed another weapon to employers.

‘‘I think that the right to strike, whether one agree with strikes or not, is an important part of our industrial law framework and I think that what this bill potentially does is make it very easy for employers to ditch striking staff very quickly.’’

He understood concerns about the disruption caused by strikes but said he was not convinced this was the answer.

Judging that it was going a bit too far isn’t ridiculous. In fact it wasn’t even a Government bill so National can’t have been very keen on it themselves.

The defeat was not unexpected as a number of National ministers and employer groups have expressed disquiet about the bill being a step too far.

Dunne gave National a way out without them being seen to vote against a Member’s Bill of one of it’s own MPs (in my opinion).

My challenge to you is this: within five seconds name just one National government policy benefiting just the wealthy. Then give yourself a minute and come up with say five more.

I just read a story about the sentencing of a ~~victim~~ woman who drove her car into a male family member, severing his leg. He lost the leg.

The story was dripping with sympathy for the woman and the jury was not convinced she really meant to harm the man ! Reading the article you would think SHE was the victim. There was a lot written about how the man had forgiven her. She got 3 years prison, but will serve a fraction of that.

She was previously sentenced to 3 years 9 months for shaking a baby so hard it suffered permanent brain damage and denying the child the necessities of life. But she was portrayed as a victim then too.

Is it just me or is the absence of the Green Party apparatchiks flocking to help out the stranded whales quite noticeable?
Surely Wussell, Metewia and Gaweth should be on their bikes to help out……or is actual wet-work too far beneath them?

And……when was the last time anyone actually counted all the whales in the oceans?
Because without a proper audit, how do we know the population is decreasing?

I wouldn’t read too much into the latest Wairarapa quakes. The whole region is being pushed into the Rimutaka/Tararua ranges by the Pacific plate & something has to give now & again. The one that worries me is a possible repeat of the 8.2 magnitude 1855 event when the Rimutakas were pushed up 6 metres in places with a horizontal slip of 14 metres.

Mostly because I live about 1.5km from the fault!

The Alpine fault runs out to sea North of Kaikoura & follows the Kermadec Trench up to Tonga. Where it follows the Wairarapa coastline, about 100Km offshore it’s known as the Hikurangi Trench.

Some expert was recently blathering on about the likelihood of it rupturing any time now but as usual he was a bit short on specifics. One thing although is certain…..it would produce a mother & a father of a tsunami along the east coast of the North Island.

A bit more about the female who drove a car into her male relative pinning him against a pole and severing his leg.

Note:

1. This lovely kiwi girl was pregnant again at sentencing after her attack on the infant.

2. She ripped the mans leg off after being released early from her short sentence for the baby attack.

the baby was subject to a violent assault which left him with brain damage, extensive haemorrhaging to the eyes, a retina fold to one eye and partial paralysis…He said the child was now severely brain damaged, and, although he was not in a vegetative state, he would need ongoing professional support and was unlikely to live a long life.

Imagine this sort of excuse making reporting if the violent offender was a male ! The liberal media and male hate groups would scream blue bloody murder.

Actually, many of the laws God gave in the Old Testament were for a certain time only – for the Exodus – but many of them were pertaining to health and cleanliness to keep the Jews well and are measures that we all follow today. Remember this was hundreds (thousands?) of years before anyone knew about germs, bacteria, or simply washing your hands before you eat yet God gives the Jews quite practical laws , eg, not eating shellfish, keeping sick or infected people (and their clothing) away from others etc etc. This led to the Jewish nation probably being one of the healthiest there was.

They are remarkably valuable in the area of public health… These laws protected Israel from bad diet, dangerous vermin and communicable diseases… These were rule-of-thumb laws that God gave in His wisdom to a people who could not know the reason for the provision” (The Expositor’s Bible Commentary)

The biblical laws of sanitation were clearly ahead of their time! There was really no way to fully understand the reasons for these laws until the invention of the microscope, the discovery of bacteria and the pioneering work of pathologists in recent centuries, yet these ancient biblical laws have proven scientifically valid today! People who touched a dead or diseased animal or person—or even garments or secretions from a sick person—were to bathe and wash their clothes and avoid contact with others. Contaminated garments were to be washed or burned—important sanitizing principles that are still followed today. Dwellings that showed signs of mold, or that had harbored sick individuals, were to be cleaned, repaired or destroyed, to prevent the spread of disease (see Leviticus 13–15). Porous vessels that came into contact with dead animals were to be broken, since they would harbor bacteria. People showing signs of sickness were to be isolated—quarantined—until examined by a priest and declared well. People were to wash after having sex. Tattoos and cuttings on the flesh were also forbidden (Leviticus 19:28), for reasons that include the risk of contracting disease. Modern physicians warn that tattoos and body-piercing carry a risk for contracting infectious diseases like hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis and HIV/AIDS (International Journal of Infectious Disease, 2001, 5(1), 27–34).

In Deuteronomy 23:9–14, we learn that human wastes were to be buried, away from human dwellings. Today we call this sanitary waste disposal, and its benefits are widely understood but not always practiced—especially in poverty-stricken areas. History is filled with epidemics of typhus, cholera and dysentery, linked to the careless dumping of human waste into streets and rivers, or feeding human waste to animals that are then eaten. Burying human waste breaks the life cycle of many parasitic organisms that spread disease. This simple practice is much more effective, and less expensive, than treating disease after it breaks out—and God put this principle in the Bible thousands of years before mankind’s science understood its benefit!

So you see, the Jews didn’t totally understand the reasons for the laws they were commanded to follow but we still follow many of these laws today because we know about germs. The Jews were ahead of their time because of following God’s laws.

Stick to Honda or Yamaha & you won’t go too far wrong. The later Polaris quads are reasonable machines but I can’t see much point in trying to save a few bob & buying a bucket of shit which most of the Chinese stuff seems to be.

Ask around your area because the competence of the local dealership is just about everything nowadays. The new quads are chocka with computer controlled features which are well, well beyond the abilities of us simple rural folk to fix or service.

About as bad as the bloody cars…..the local Toyota ripoffs quoted $550 for an O2 sensor for the wife’s wagon last week.
