Labour selects Tony Milne for Christchurch Central

March 8th, 2014 at 5:01 pm by David Farrar

has selected to contest the marginal seat.

Tony is currently a lobbyist for the Problem Gambling Foundation (which is funded by the Ministry of Health), whom he has worked for since 2008.He was also Jim Anderton’s Mayoral Campaign Manager and worked for Tim Barnett from 2003 to 2008. Tony also stood for Labour in Rakaia in 2002 and I think 2005, and has a degree in English and Political Science. He has also been the Youth Vice-President of the Labour Party.

Given the SkyCity deal he’s not very good at his job, is he.

By getting elected he’ll probably lift the performance of both the Liarbore Caucus and his old employer.

Big Norm would be turning in his grave.

Yes, the Rainbow faction really needs a lot more new blood doesn’t it. Is there anyone normal in Liarbore these days, or is asking that question a hate crime?

I don’t want any of you hold this against me but I used to vote for Labour when Norm was running it.

That’s cause I have always been a worker and in those days Labour represented the workers.

I could no more vote for the bloody freaks now than I could roll over and take it up the arse.

They are sicko tossers and throwing their lot in with that Aussie, ginga, commie turd just makes me hate the bastards even more! :)

where do they find these douche bags?

go to the about section on his website.

    first line:

“I’m passionate about social justice and am an experienced campaigner who builds teams.” – alarm bells ringing yet?

“I earned a first class honours degree in English and Political Science from Canterbury University while also working as a youth worker at the 198 Youth Health Centre . I spent several years working in Central Government for MPs and Ministers (Tim Barnett, Hon Lianne Dalziel, Hon Ruth Dyson, Hon Clayton Cosgrove, Hon Mahara Okeroa) before becoming a health promoter for the Problem Gambling Foundation in late 2008.”

    please allow me to translate:

“i went to uni to become a professional scabber of tax payer money. i have never had a real job. i worked for some no name MP’s and one real nasty fucker. all of my friends are from the far left. we see injustice everywhere. i want the world to feel as miserable as i do. we are all victims. i will support all sorts of nanny state laws and i want rich people to pay most of their money to the state. i don’t believe in personal responsibility. everything is a disease or addiction. we need more laws to protect people from themselves. at age 32, i know best. i will tell that world war 2 vet how to live. all of you 50 year olds don’t know shit. blah blah blah”

and of course hes gay. cause 1 in 3 labour candidates have to be gay. just like real life.

My Christchurch contacts advise that he was very close to Tim Barnett in the mid 2000s as he had the same interests if you get my drift. Not sure if Tim was too happy to have him hanging around. He was a school boy type and had a make over when he was trying to improve his image.

Very lite weight and tends to be a vicious smart arse as long he is hiding behind his keyboard. He tossed some nasty shit at Bob Parker pre election when he was Jim Anderton’s manager and had to make a public backdown over some comments. Typical gay having hissy fits. I heard Jim Anderton was very pissed off with him as he believed it may have contributed to his loss for the mayoralty.

A cry baby and No danger to National keeping the seat.

You have to be a special sort of moron don’t you to say something that will publicly embarrass the candidate while you’re managing their campaign.

No wonder he was selected. His political calculation capacity sounds like he’d fit right in to Liarbore’s 2014 candidate lineup. Perhaps Matt will co-opt him as a special advisor to David to stop David from saying anything silly.

Hate to smear Milne if its not true. We must not forget that Jim also lost the election. So much for Milnes managers skills.

He has a good chance of winning and becoming an MP for life. Chch Central is very marginally held by National and is historically red. (It was a dead heat on election night 2011 and has never been held by National before.)

Don’t know anything about him, but his bio is uninspiring — very standard for a Labour candidate.

I think all are CH-CH based current or former Labour MP’s but maybe not Dyson, anyway:

Lot’s of experianced campaigners – and who all have shovel ready teams to help him. Including the Mayor.

I was back in CH-CH at Christmas, the talk is that the rebuild is so complex, large, timely and costly, that residents don’t want Labour in charge at both a local and national level.

The thought is that some of the local Labour MP’s may well get elected, but the party votes will mostly go to National so as to maintain an expanding and private market economy, which will quickly help get private business growth into Ch-Ch which isn’t just re-build related. Under a ‘poor’ labour government, the economy would shrink and ‘re-build’ would then be the only investment in ch-ch.

Another related concern is that most of a generation of ch-ch youth will not have any oppurtunities other than in ‘rebuild’ and will end up with skills that are uneeded in ch-ch in the future – sending them away and excuberating the problem of low business investment and slow growth in ch-ch under any ‘poor’ government within the next 20yrs.

Yep, Labour in ChCh Central goes back to its previous incarnation – “Tim Barnett number 2″. Bit hard on Tony probably because he’s his own man really, but the comparisons, grooming and pedigree are obvious.

Nicky Wagner has been AWOL for three years and has now thrown her toys out of the cot. Thus, Gerry Brownlee is the only Nat MP left in town and with him completely $%^&!* up the EQC and earthquake recovery due to lack of leadership and decision making, Milne will waltz in to Parliament. If I were Milne I would go hard on the whole EQC debacle – its National’s major Archilles heel down here and I wonder why they don’t press it further. The absence of right wing commentary on Gerry’s failing’s this last week has been telling, and Cunliffe has been a blessing for them.

Sigh – c’mon Nats, is that the best you can do down here?

Tony is a decent guy. I used to debate him through his blog and found him engaging and intelligent. But the Labour Party is becoming very unbalanced with media attractive gay men. All are decent fellows taken one at a time. But it does not reflect the broad cross section Labour needs to broaden its appearance if it to become a governing party.

MrTips: Fully agree. Brownlee’s bumbling management of CERA is National’s biggest weakness. It’s a complete mess and could cost them the election if it becomes an issue. Chch Central and Waimakariri will almost certainly return to Labour.

I’m a voter in Brownlee’s electorate. I’ll probably party vote National and send my electorate vote elsewhere in protest.

tvb: Yup. Labour doesn’t attract a broad church in terms of its candidates.

tas: Agree, if the general NZ public knew how much ripping-off of the taxpayer via EQC has gone on (why aren’t the taxpayers union investigating spending in EQC?), then the Nats could lose the election – which is why DPF and others are silent on it. Brownlee is a complete liability at the moment.

Tony Milne knows he has 100% certainty to win ChCh central which is why he threw his hat in the ring. But that’s all he wants it seems – no-one on any side of the spectrum has any leadership down here.

I know a lot of Ilam voters and business people who feel the same as you do about Brownlee – he’s just not up to it.
