Latest poll

April 19th, 2014 at 3:06 pm by David Farrar

Roy Morgan reports:

Today’s New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll shows a large jump in support for National (48.5%, up 5.5%) now with its largest lead over a potential Labour/Greens alliance (40%, down 5%) since July 2013 …

Support for the Labour Party has fallen to 28.5% (down 3.5%) – clearly the lowest support under new Labour Leader David Cunliffe, and the lowest Labour support since April 2012 …

Also of interest:

The latest NZ Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has jumped to 143pts (up 10pts) with 65% (down 4%) of New Zealanders saying New Zealand is ‘heading in the right direction’ compared to 22% (down 6%) that say New Zealand is ‘heading in the wrong direction’.

I guess New Zealanders are not as fascinated over Oravida, as Labour are.

it surprizes me how some journos cant spot a beltway issue.

i was tweeting (sounds so gay) garner about collins a couple of weeks ago saying no one cares.. he told me i was wrong. huge issue etc.

i applied the “am i being one eyed” test to it. i came up witht his – if it was a labour mp i wouldnt care either.

If anybody wants to vomit their excess Easter food, here is something that could help:

The Greens could share the deputy Prime Minster role in a coalition with Labour, Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei says.
Greens co-leader Russel Norman last month said he was keen on the role.
Ms Turei said she would like to be deputy Prime Minister along with Dr Norman.
“There’s no rules that stop there from being more than one deputy Prime Minister,” she told The Nation.

“Russel and I have had a co-leadership role in the Greens that’s worked very well for the Green Party. I think something similar would work very well for the country as well.”
They would divide the position the same way they do as co-leaders, she said.
“We each have our own expertise. We have our own roles that we play and we do that work.”
How much negotiating sway they had would depend on the size of their vote, Ms Turei said.

I think Kiwis deserve a Labour-Green-NZ First-Mana-Dot Com government for three years. Then National will rule for ever.

Garner has no idea of any political issue. When National dropped few points in a 3-News poll few months ago, he made a huge song and dance about that, started a 7 PM chat after the news, with people and he was gloating National’s downfall has started etc. I lost my respect for him as a journalist on that day.

I could understand the concerns if Collins had shares in Oravida but I really don’t see where the conflict of interest arises.

Labour and Green M.P’s have always suffered from a lack of perspective. Their attack on Collins is no different. I think when Annette King was Health Minister her husband had some senior role in a health board but I don’t recall her being labelled corrupt like Labour and the Greens are saying about Collins.

When Helen Clarke was PM she added her objection with other neigbours in her street about a boarding house that was going to be built 100 metes away in the next street. The objectors said it would attract undesirables. Clearly Clarke had a vested interest in objecting to the build (lowered property values, etc) but I don’t for one minute think she was corrupt.

Unless there is a radical shift in the polls, she’s dreaming. A Labour-led government would almost certainly require NZF to get a majority. Winston would let the Greens have ministerial portfolios (let alone the deputy PM role) over his dead body. And the only thing the Greens could do about it would be the nuclear option – refuse to support a Labour-NZF government, meaning either a National-NZF government or a fresh election.

I wonder when the Left are going to realise that nine years of the Clark government may have immunised National against any charges of corruption – or at least against anything much less than seeing a Minister pick up a bag of cash on Lambton Quay.

It seems to me that every time Labour members or ministers were under fire for some less than ethical behaviour it was just brushed off as mindless National partisanship or too minor in the scheme of things to get upset over.

Sauce for the goose then. There’s no point in saying that this will come back to bite the Right in the bum when Labour-Green eventually gain power and that we’ll remember things like Collins and how you Righties didn’t care – when the standard has already been set. I can’t speak for others on the Right but I won’t expect a future Left government to treat such things any differently than Clark and company did.

The Left simply want to hold the Right to standards they themselves could not care less about.

You need to keep up. Collins was in China as Justice Minister at the invitation of the Chinese government.
It was not a business trip as that term is commonly understood.
Her husband did not accompany her.
She is entitled to free time and dinner with friends.

Stick to the facts or else you sound like Gossip Robertson who runs a particularly gay form of spitefulness. That’s not homophobic but an observation from years of listening to gay friends pull someone to bits.

Collins is being targeted because she is an outstanding minister and MP. If she was a nonentity none of this would ever have mattered to Labour. Unlike Philp Field and his Thai tiler, there is no evidence at all of corruption here that most of us can see and all this ‘perception’ drivel is too precious for words.

I suspect someone at the Embassy and/or MFAT is feeding out info. I wonder who? And why doesn’t the media try to find out? Or are they being fed too?

Several reasons, media organisation generally only report polls that they pay for themselves, TVNZ with Colmar Brunton, Herald with their Digipoll, TV with their Reid Polls etc etc.

Also, Roy Morgan is NZs least respected polling organisation. They tend to over over state National , look at their record from last time.

The Nats and those who manage education in this country have to get the balls to enforce the regulations regarding the content of the curriculum.

There is no way schools should be promoting environmental propaganda under the pretext of education, and if it wasn’t for this evil being done, the Watermelons would have negligible support.

Most of their supporters are naive and impressionable students with no idea how they are being manipulated and used, and the Nats or the regulators need to do something about this disgusting abuse of the education system.

Once again we witness the dimbulb Nats showing complete & utter paralysis when the problem and its solution are both so clear and obvious.

All the voters have to do is watch Len Brown of Auckland and Lianne Dalziel of Christchurch … and ask themselves … do we really want to see this degree of incompetrence at the central government level ?

The Left is in serious trouble here in NZ, the United States and the United Kingdom, mainly because their core beliefs are seen as unworkable, unsustainable and unbelievable.

The world has moved on with the public much better informed, as the new media is in the ascendancy and the dying heritage media has lost the capacity to censor / manipulate information and protect / promote the Luddite Malthusian Left.

It would appear the Left needs to rejuvenate itself with urgency. It certainly isn’t very clever to remain political dinosaurs and to the Left of the Chinese Communist Party.

There is not one of them with an ounce of commercial ability, only the desire to spend what the people they envy earn, to fete the losers and deviants that support them.

Viking- there should be an enquiry into the politicization of the educational curriculum with a focus on detecting loony environmental propaganda. For example it is criminal that Gore’s phoney movie on AGW was shown to children without any counter information being simultaneously presented. The scum behind that ghastly political perversion of the schools should be drummed out of the industry.

As we know, that’s only the tip of the iceberg, but the Nats can’t seem to do anything about it other than piss around with Johnny “Gay Marriage” Banks and charter schools that are so restricted by the legislation that allowed them they’re pretty much useless in really changing anything.

Reforming the education system and removing the propaganda promoted by communist green left scum posing as managers in Wellington would cut the Watermelon Party off at the knees.

Apparently though the only strategy the Nats can come up with is making John Key as popular with low information voters as Helen Klark was.

Ya see National and John Key’s one great trick is knowing where the most New Zealanders are, talking to them, giving them what they want and as a result they continue to be by far the most popular political party. Labour doesn’t know those people because they have only studied them at Uni or in a petri dish.

National’s genius is to apply a The Warehouse mentality to the political system, relegating everyone else on the street to minority status. But what they sell us is still going to break and get taken back to the returns counter eventually.

I reckon apart from demonising smoking all Clark and Cullen did was rape my taxable arse to pay off debt. Well done. Respect. Hope you enjoy your knighthood off my back Michael, and I hope you are having a super time in NY Helen dining at those jolly restaurants and Fixing The World.

And I reckon all the Nats are doing is borrowing a ton of cash to keep the status quo going. It’s an awful lot now, and I know who will be paying it all back, one way or another. Why do I have to pay for other people’s kids? Why do I have to pay for people who don’t know you shouldn’t build a house with no eaves or flashings?

Governments are only ever reactive, not proactive. Reactive when disaster is knocking at the door. Look at the fourth Labour Government. Maybe if the Nats govern alone after September (which I still think is a possibility) we might see them do what we all know must be done sooner or later but I won’t hold my breath.

Thing is, the buggers must know we are spending and borrowing far, far too much, but to do something about it is political suicide.

If Colin Craig or Jamie Whyte are able to articulate just how much shit we are exposed to, how inconsequential we really are and how we have utterly no power on the global stage then they might just make some headway. I reckon most Kiwis won’t want to hear that though and for that reason I’ve got a baaaad feeling about this!

Can You Really See Russia From Alaska?

In her Sept. 11 interview with ABC’s Charlie Gibson, Sarah Palin had this to say about Russia: “They’re our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.” Is that true?

Yes. Russia and Alaska are divided by the Bering Strait, which is about 55 miles at its narrowest point. In the middle of the Bering Strait are two small, sparsely populated islands: Big Diomede, which sits in Russian territory, and Little Diomede, which is part of the United States. At their closest, these two islands are a little less than two and a half miles apart, which means that, on a clear day, you can definitely see one from the other.

Note that Sarah Palin never said that Russia could be seen from her house.

No Lucia (are you addressing me via your God seeing as you are ignoring me?)

Evil is the religion that you makes endless excuses for. Evil are the endless lies that you tell in defence of your religion. Evil is you thinking that you have a mandate due to your stupid middle eastern superstition to be able to tell others what they can and cannot do with their own lives. Evil is Catholicism and your stringent defence of all of its many crimes.

Had you actually accepted that your religion has committed thousands and thousands of crimes, apologised for it and moved on then I might only have had pity for your deluded mental state, however given that you keep perpetuating lie after lie in support of your religion then you deserve nothing but derision.

Do you send me apoplectic?, well no, however I will always take any opportunity to point out how evil you are and how wicked your church and your religion is.

New Zealand’s economy is improving, losing Collins overboard makes little difference to that.

National’s refusal to defend her in parliament springs from a realisation that only allowing themselves to be tainted by it (by association) would cause any problem to their party.

On the Collins matter, it is poor judgment.

If there is a private interest, related to themselves or a partner, a Minister cannot/should not personally involve themselves in promotion of that – whether here or abroad.

The exception would be when their Ministerial function was to promote business/exporters and there was no exceptional favour to any with a private connection.

It is a legitimate function for embassy staff to assist our businesses when exporting abroad and for government agency’s to assist exporters – help to companies when they have exporting/customs difficulty should be done and even facilitated by the relevant Ministers. Collins should have restricted her activity to working behind the scenes to ensure that sort of enabling/fixing rather than being involved directly herself with her attendance etc.
