    Same-sex marriages boosting tourism

Same-sex marriage tourism is on the rise, with nearly half of gay couples who tied the knot in New Zealand last year coming from other countries.

Ah, marriage. Perhaps the “quality” of marriage is improving (i.e., marriages lasting longer) due to the higher level of commitment of those who still choose to marry in this day and age.

Marriage (as I understand it) can only be between a man and a woman. Of course, I also understand that language and social customs change over time, so my children may have a different understanding of what the word “marriage” means. Such is life.

Marriage is like having children: it can be the best thing in the world; but if you don’t think that it’s for you, then don’t commit to it (as it can morph into one of the worst things in the world).

The marriage rate per 1000 adults falls because of the aging of the population – those divorced who do not remarry and the widows and widowers increasing as a share of the population.

Only a few decades ago the marriage rate per 1000 was falling because younger people delayed marriage from an earlier average of c25 to closer to age 30.

“Liberal” (for liberal, read totalitarian) commentators I’ve noted have often exclaimed with wonder how such an extraordinary social change has come about with so little protest.

I always tell them “You are *?@! kidding aren’t you?”

It came about because it’s been imposed on us by force, by backroom stitch up between all 3 wings of of the same party (National, Labour, Greens)

None of the three main political parties made redefining marriage part of their election manifesto nor was not even in the coalition agreement. It was a shameful affront to democracy. And it was all driven by a so called National Party that is supposed to be about a bottoms up natural ordering of society rather than top down diktat.

Just like out of control deficit spending, immigration, “green taxes”, constant restrictions on personal liberties, rhetoric aside, there is very little difference between the “mainstream” political parties which all follow the globalist agenda.

It is why the Conservatives and Act must be attacked at all costs by our “independent” media.

Not sure how gay marriage has anything to do with children born out of wedlock, but when one is discussing the topic of marriage, almost anything can be made ‘relevant’.

I suggest the use of two terms: “marriage” and “civil union.” The former being marriage as it is traditionally known; the latter being for all other unions. Both can have identical protection under the law.

I respect the concept of a civil union between two people who want to legally record their mutual commitment to a permanent relationship, but I ask that the word “marriage” be reserved for use to describe that unique bond between a man and a woman that I presume forms the bedrock supporting a self-sustaining society.

The number does not matter. The meaning of the word has now been completely changed (by questionable means in my opinion) to include by definition, what was once excluded. Where we once had black and white, now all is grey.

All across the western world peoples are now “ruled” by a permanent political class bent on imposing their views ,largely cultural marxism on us.

Very few countries have been allowed the luxury of referenda to decide issues of major importance to “society”.

I believe that is why we are witnessing a slow but steady decline in what were once the traditional mainstream parties and the growth of parties the media and establishment insist on labelling extreme. UKIP ,Geert Wilders,Alternative for Germany.

It is also interesting that in one of the few remaining democracies in Europe ,Switzerland, the people get a say.And are constantly accused of the very thing we’re discussing, populism and extremism. Bullshit. In a democracy the people must have their say.Binding referenda is the way.

We are no longer represented,we are ruled by a largely cynical and certainly morally corrupt political class.

You (and others) have been keeping repeating this sort of myth over and over again. The cry for a referendum is just shallow nonsense and has been discussed here repeatedly.

Of course you are represented. Of course you have your say. You will in September. Where is the voter backlash against National and Labour on this issue? Where is the stellar rise of the Conservatives and NZ First?

Truth is the majority of people, here and in other countries, have no problem with homosexuals and them getting married.

You, however, do. Fair enough, that’s your prerogative.

But quit playing here the victim and pretending that something is being forced upon you. It isn’t. It just means that your views are no longer in the majority,

Time to man up and acknowledge it.
