Monday Motivator – Koh Russei Serenity

Monday Motivator 22

Koh Russei Serenity, Koh Russei Island, Cambodia

Cambodia is an amazing country to visit and offers just so much to the traveller looking for a little more than the ‘usual’ – if you have been there you will know what I mean. One thing I didn’t expect was the amazing set of islands off the coast of Sihanoukville.

Located in the Gulf Of Thailand several kilometers of the mainland Koh Russei Island was a lovely place to spend a few days. Each evening I would make the short trek across the island through a forest and past a military base to this stunning and deserted beach to capture the sunset.

Lovely shot Richard- there’s something about sunsets in the tropics that brings out rich colours that appeal.

Koh Russei s not part of SE Asia I’ve had a chance to visit yet. I’ll have to take the chance if I get to Cambodia.

    Good motivator.

Funnily enough I’m in Cambodia right now. Been here 3 months and will be staying another 5.

It is a lovely country despite being extremely poor. The moaners at home talking about child poverty, hard times etc do not have a clue what they are talking about. Average wage here is around US$100 per month. For that you would work 6 days a week at least. No welfare, no pensions – you make your own way. Whilst that means some very sad cases of people having to sell their own children to survivie, children begging etc it also means that people are very family orientated and extremely entrepreneurial, which, after welfare addicted NZ, is very refreshing.

Cambodians are amazing people, very friendly and welcoming. I would heartily recommend a visit if you get a chance.
