The term “Uphill gardener” is a common slur used for gays.

I long for the day when Robertson becomes the leader of the Labour party. I do wonder how he will explain the inevitable further drop in the polls without having to mention that it might be because he is gay.

Alan’s obsession reminds me of a joke I heard years ago.

A man in the psychs office gets shown a card with a straight line on it. The psych says “What does that remind you of?”. Man replies “A bed”. Psych hmms and shows the man a card with two straight lines. Man says “That’s a naked woman lying on the bed”. Psych tut tuts and shows a third card with three staright lines. Man says “That’s a couple having sex on the bed”. Psych says “Mr Man it appears that you are obsessed with sex. Man says “What do you mean! You’re the one who keeps showing me dirty pictures”.

You learn something new every day.

I am sure Alan got worked up into a lather every time his Labuor MP mates called a gay National MP Tinkerbell. Oh yeah – slurs are only slurs when Nats do it, intentionally or not.

I don’t have any “labour mp mates”, in fact I’m almost certainly not going to vote for a left wing party this year, I didn’t last time round either.

It was just in poor taste, I’m certain the implication was clear to the “reader” who created it, although I guess there is reasonable doubt involved when it was published here.

Alan, it was in a taste no different to the rest of the cover page. If it really was intended as a sexuality-based slur, it would have referred to Grant as rinsing his salad, being good with colours etc.

Alan, it’s been made pretty clear to you that none of us here, other than you, is familiar with the association you draw between gardening and being gay.

Given your over-the-top insistence that everyone else must be aware of that association, coupled with your revelation that you won’t be voting Labour, is there perhaps a non-political ‘declaration of interest’ that you should be making in relation to this matter?

Alan: In my 55 years I have NEVER heard the term “uphill gardener” referring to ANYTHING..”cornholer” “up the dirt” road “using the back door” “rear parking” “pillow biter” “shirt lifter” “puncturing the rosebud” all refer to anal sex…uphill gardener or even “digging dirt”? I don’t think so.

As others have said, the reference to the pudgy Mr Robertson is clearly to his spectacularly unsuccessful attempts to find “dirt” on other politicians and nothing else…any other meaning is purely in your mind
