Why didn’t they taser me?

June 6th, 2014 at 12:30 pm by David Farrar

Unbelievable. The Herald reports:

still does not accept he should have been shot by police officers in an incident near the Central Hawke’s Bay township of Otane in October 2011.

Living in Waipukurau since the beginning of the year Taite, 51, is paralysed from the waist down as a result of his injuries.

So why was he shot?

Taite called out that he had a gun and was going to kill the officer. The officer, who was on the radio, got out of the patrol car and drew his Glock pistol, telling Taite he was armed and Taite should get on the ground.

Ignoring this instruction Taite moved towards the officer, who repeated the instruction to lie down. Taite ignored this and continued to advance towards the officer who then fired a single shot at Taite’s chest.

Taite fell to the ground and continued to yell abuse at the officers. He then started crawling towards the open driver’s side door of the patrol car where the keys were in the ignition and the car was running.

Concerned that Taite might try to escape using the police car, one of the officers ordered him to roll over and show his hands.

Taite then put his hand inside his trousers and replied that he had a grenade and was going to blow everyone up.

Concerned about this new threat and the safety of those around him, the officer struck Taite in the face, stunning him and Taite was then handcuffed.

The officers assessed Taite’s injuries as they waited for the ambulance to arrive.

Taite suffered a spinal injury from the gunshot and is permanently paralysed from his waist down.

What a shame we now have to pay for his care. He’s been shot once, and then claims he has a grenade. Such stupidity is lucky to be alive. The Police would have been within their rights to fire several more bullets into him.

I see the useless prick has a conviction for attempted murder of a police officer prior to this latest incident.

I can’t understand how these oxygen thieves don’t get full life sentences for such serious offending. It would save the community a lot of trouble as evidenced by this.

Our cops do a great job (except when management send them out to do ACC bidding on exceeding the limit by 4 kph) and this is an example of great police work keeping the community safe under the most extreme circumstnces.

One bullet obviously didn’t stop the threat. The police had to put themselves into potential harm’s way (he said he had a grenade) to incapacitate the criminal. If they had shot him again that would surely have been seen as justified. A grenade has a kill radius of 10-20m after all.

It is probably cheaper for the long suffering taxpayer to have this turd in a chair than have him in one of Her Majesties 5 star hotels.
And we won`t have to endure the endless bleating from the Society for the Protection of Crims cos` he is still breathing.
Mr Taite should grow a pair and take responsibility for himself, once in his pathetic life.

jackinabox will be along soon to defend Taite.

Sounds almost like attempted suicide by police, but now that Taite finds he is paralysed and dependent, he is trying to argue he should have been tasered.

The anti-police mob often shout after shootings by the police: “Why didn’t they shoot to wound?” (As if this were feasible.)

Perhaps they will now demand, “if police must shoot, shoot to wound, but make sure you don’t hit the spine or the liver.”

Not even pistol champions like Greg Yelavich or Jerry Miculek could guarantee minor wound only with moving targets, let alone a policeman who can practise an hour or two a month.

    Jack5 surmises:

Sounds almost like attempted suicide by police

Certainly looks that way. The IPCA report, as well as noting the previous conviction for attempted murder of a police officer and multiple incidents of family violence, says:

Mr Taite has also suffered from periods of mental illness.

Rather than being primarily bad, he’s mad. He’s a danger to police, to members of his family, and invariably to himself. A long, long time ago he should have been sent to a secure mental health unit for his own and others’ protection. But we don’t have those, we have “care in the community” and this is what it gets us.

There are now goodness knows how many unnecessary victims piled up, Taite is a paraplegic, and the taxpayer is covering his living expenses till the day he dies. All of it completely unnecessary.

The politicians and “experts” who closed secure facilities and inflicted unnecessary suffering on the dangerously mentally ill, their families, the emergency services people who have to deal with them, and the wider community should be held criminally responsible for the outcome of their decisions.

Jack: unfortunately, in a free society, we have to take the risk of your “going postal” with someone else’s legally held weapons…the alternative is to put nuts like you into “protective custody” (Protective of the rest of us) and that is not really a viable option

Or the cops could admit that giving a psychopathic, recidivist drunk driver a firearms licence was a mistake.

Nostradamus: God, I had forgotten that speech by Delahunty! I recall Roger and I got caught in the House when she made it…it came up really suddenly and being gentlemen, we decided we had to just sit it out rather than walk out on her…I think poor old Roger thought he had been transported to another dimension !! Fallen through a Green wormhole so to speak…

Jack: Where roughly do you live if I may ask? Within the nearest 50k’s will do…

Don’t bother David, the porky bastards don’t give a fuck about public safety. In fact they encourage lawlessness round my neck of the woods.

I have just listened to the first two minutes of Jack’s “Crude Awakening”…clearly made before the shale oil revolution which has made the US self sufficient in oil for the first time since the 1950’s, and is on track to make her an oil exporter again…it’s about 10 years out of date from the short bit I listened to…

There you go…let no-one say I don’t take one for the team now and again…

Jack: You misunderstand…I am hoping you don’t live in the Island as me, much less the same city…you are one dangerous unit…

JB: You know when you are indulging in a spot of onanism and you suddenly need a totally revolting image to slow things down? Before I met Mad Cath I used this bint I used to know who worked on Scottish trawlers…

But back to Mad Cath… I was having dinner with a few Nats once, and a female Nat said, re Delahunty “don’t you sometimes just want to shake her?”

The other Nat – who must sadly remain nameless – said “I just want to give her a wash!” I cant remember whether this was before or after Mad Cath told the populace that she washed her hair in her own urine…

“The production of shale oil has been hindered because of technical difficulties and costs.[44] In March 2011, the United States Bureau of Land Management called into question proposals in the U.S. for commercial operations, stating that “There are no economically viable ways yet known to extract and process oil shale for commercial purposes.”

JB: No, I never made toolpusher…but I did a bit better than Red thinks…but then he has never had much of a handle on offshore drilling ops…from what I can work out he spent his time working on what they call in the trade “shitty old iron” on shore in PNG

As for Jack’s statement, it would appear the US Bureau of Land Management was misinformed… Shale oil is being pumped out of states in the Midwest that were never oil producers in the old days…
